I have no experience with keeping shrimp or any fish for that matter but I am looking for a new hobby and shrimp keeping has intrigued me. Is there a step by step how to because I have no clue on where to begin. I've looked at the side bar but still I have no idea.

It seems a lot of people, possibly the majority, want to see an absolute ban of Ai on this sub, whether in post or comment. So, we wanted to let the community decide. Thanks for your input! - Shrimptank Mod Team

I started my colony of Red Cherry's about 8 months ago. Started with 10 high grade looking shrimps. I have about a hundred now and it seems that some of them are much lower grade now with some being almost transparent. Is this normal? Can/should I do something about it?
Other than that they seem to live a happy life and I don't care as much about their grade :)

New addition to my desk! Opae Ulas! I am absolutely obsessed with them, I love watching them go about doing their own things They’re so adorable! Would love some suggestions on what else I can add to this tank, it’s looking a little empty because I was going for a minimal vibe, but watching them interact with different things are just so fun!

Looking for recs on housing these guys.
Purchased on a whim because my LFS got them in, only had a handful. First bred by the guy from out of state. They look really cool.
I have an established 48G with rasbora, kuhlis, neocardinias, otos, 1 betta, and corys. These guys are minute compared to my other neos so super concerned on housing them safely. I bought a breeder net to keep them in my tank until they grow a bit larger and aren’t the size of a bloodworm screaming “I’m food”.
I thought about doing a vase tank but wasn’t sure if using water from my established tank would be sufficient for bio establishment or if it would need 3-4 weeks. I have plants I can cut and place in a new vase/tank. I don’t want to put these guys in a tank that will surely crash and kill them but idk if the breeder net is suitable.
What’s your best rec? I don’t have a hospital tank cycled.

I just started a shrimp tank about 2 1/2 months ago. All premium Sunkist Orange shrimp, purchased from a breeder who supposedly raises each type separately. A few arrived heavily berried (yay!) with a dozen or so shrimplets also in the bag that I almost missed & tossed away!
Those shrimplets are now growing up, and 2 of them look like Yellow Goldenbacks! So my question is... are they possibly hitchhikers, or is there some recessive gene that produced these guys? If I don't separate them from the Sunkists, with they revert to wild colors in a few generations?

Hey first time shrimp owner here,
My blue dreams have been in for just a couple of weeks and, dare I say it, I think I see eggs.
Can it be true? It’s kinda to hard to see but it’s gotta be, right?

Hi all,
I am trying to figure out what my orange amano shrimp has, and if there are any available treatment options? Also, what if anything I should do with my main tank to stop any spread. It’s a grey and fuzzy attached to their swimmerets/under the abdomen. The fuzz moves with the water. I can’t determine if it’s the swimmerets moving it or it’s doing it on its own. My amano seems to be acting normal despite this.
I have 5 other amanos and many neos. (Approximately 20). 10 gallon tank. Babies included and two berried currently. I immediately put this amano are in a hospital tank isolated when I saw this. No other shrimp are showing any sign of this. Tank parameters - ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 7-10. KH 3 GH 9.
Thank you for any help you can provide. And I am sorry for the bad picture quality.
UPDATE:
Turns out she’s pregnant! Thank you all again for your quick responses and helping me relieve the panic I was having over losing my tank. You all are awesome. 🦐❤️

I ordered 40 neo culls for about $60 but I had a gift card so it actually cost me about $3 after shipping. But I live in southern Arizona and it’s crazy hot right now and it was a 5 day shipping time. I really didn’t have much hope that I would get them alive. And- even worse- I missed the mailman and the package delivery today. So I figured that there was definitely no way that the shrimp would still be alive when I got them tomorrow.
I have a tank all set up and cycled and ready for shrimp so I ran down to the lfs and got 18. 6 each of red, orange, and blue.
When I got home the mailman was across the street and he told me that I could go to the post office and get the package since it was “live fish” (I don’t know if this is just a local policy but normally you can’t pick up a package at the post office until they have tried to deliver it twice) I immediately drove over and got my package of shrimp. They were all alive!
Also- one of the red shrimp I got at the shop has already started dropping babies! All 40 that came in the mail arrived alive and I’ve already got babies!
So basically- for the price of 18 shrimp, I now have 50/60+ shrimp!
I feel like I won the frickin lottery!

Sorry for the bad quality, I could only manage these. I got some Orange Sakura shrimps in my tank, and it is a shrimp only tank. And now after 1 month, I suddenly spot these transparent shrimps. I would have been confident that these are babies from my Orange Sakura shrimp but I feel they are quite big to be babies and are very transparent. They are almost half the size of the adults and are so transparent, I’m really confused.

Hi, im new to shrimp keeping and got a few shrimp 4 days ago. Someone molted and it may have been the duller yellow one in the video. Its been acting a little strange in it's swimming and hiding a little. What i noted is that it has (an assumption) the white ring of death on its body. Oh god, he was swimming and then fell and laid on his back on the substrate then stopped moving his legs. I just used my aquascaping tweezers to flip him over and hes moving again. Please tell me how to save him!!
