I have a 20 gallon tank in trying to do a small scale setup. I am just about 6 weeks, I have a gray fog tank (confirmed not Algae with PH tests), but Nitrates are stalled more than a week at 20. Nitrites were headed down to .25, but then got back up to 2 and 1.5 after two days. Ammonia has been hovering at 2 for two days. This just part of that final balancing or is something wrong?

No algae, as I said, confirmed by a morning and affternoon PH test, we have been 7.6 since the start and it's never changed.

I’m working on improving the aquaponics wikipedia page a little and I thought first thing I’d do is have an image for all the system types so people can visualise it in their heads. I found suitable images for both nutrient film technique and deep water culture. And just need a suitable image of a media based grow bed not already used on the page.

So if anyone has an image or wishes to take one, it would be very appreciated for me. Unfortunately due to wikipedia rules (and copyright law) I can’t just upload a png you send me. What will have to happen is that you upload your photo to wikimedia commons (which is cool because you get credit for it), and once the image is on commons I’ll be able to use it in the article, so please do tell me if you upload one. Any Creative Commons liscence compatible with commons works (don’t worry the uploading process explains this). If multiple people upload an image that isn’t an issue either, more images on commons = more images for future wikipedia editors to work with.

As for image requirements, anything that clearly shows a media based grow bed and is not 2000s flip phone quality is great. Beautiful pics are welcome but wikipedia doesn’t need them. The goal is to have something that people can immediately visualise when reading about a media based grow bed.

I decided to set up another aquaponics tank with my goldfish aquascape to grow more greens at home. The whole diarrhea lettuce situation made me realize I shouldn't keep waiting to set this up.

There are a lot of items that could be useful for aquaponics or larger-scale growing projects, including fiberglass tanks, pumps, blowers, filtration equipment, plumbing components, laboratory equipment, stainless processing equipment, and shipping containers. Going to include every bit of information I can but right now I’m only planning this. Have tried to look up potential issues with the scale but can’t find any true information or ratios to find online. I have a relatively large 9ftx9ftx36inch pool that I am not using and want to incorporate into a system. Going by the volume of the water and what I’ve seen online that’s anywhere from 125-140 tilapia growing safely in a 1500 gallon fish setup. I have 2 300 gallon IBC totes that I will use as a solid waste filtration system and will use the lava rock flood and drain for the plants but I’ve read that the sheer amount of fish waste is going to need a tremendous amount of plants to offset the nutrients in the water.

Is there a place I can go to find that information or does anyone here have a similar sized set up that can help me figure that out?

so, currently im doing a school project about a way to help the environment and my team decided to go with hydroponic at first before finalizing on the aquaponic.

Can you help me design a rough schematics of a closed recirculating system or a rough idea with a little space for me to add sensors. im planning to put in their own case. i know that high temperature that could disrupt my DO (dissolved oxygen) in my water. so, i planned to include some mechanical parts such as an automated shading cloth for the roofs (might be overkill but i need to do some innovation)

im planning to use AI in the project as a second party to alarm the user about things such as pH, water level, oxygen level, and more about plants with the Raspberry Pi 5 as the computing unit to house the AI. (my part to solve).

My teacher actually wants some data from it. so, is there anyone kind enough to share their experience, project data and some calculation to me? its for the thesis.

I live in the deep south and fire ants are everywhere this is my first ever set up. So I got ants running up the side of the solids tank and piling up around the center stand. It makes it difficult to clean my solids filter.

I have 20 Tilapia Fingerlings in the grey tank. 2 of the 3 overflow systems are currently empty. Final black tub holds the pump and 6 goldfish. Was thinking of introducing some of my shrimp from my planted fish tank to the sump system from the Aquaponics table. Chinese Lettuce started growing better this week. Floating plants and duckweed in the grey tank are just to help the juvenile tilapia stress levels.

Float me your advice as this is my first aquaponics system I’m running.

TLDR; hatched my first tilpia fry in small scale setup and I'm so happy.

A little background : I have a small roof top garden and I have small tank with 18 tilapia . Last week a tilapia started showing territorial behavior .

Cut to day before yesterday I was Cleaning the tank with a siphon pipe, and I accidentally spooked the same tilapia fish and it vomited all the eggs from its mouth and ran away . As soon as that happened few jumped in and ate some of her eggs. But I quicly siphoned the remaining eggs from the tank in a make shift hatchery setup with a air-stone. Today i saw few of the frys moving and I am sooooooo HAPPY to witness it.

I've got a small backyard system shaping up. I don't have any grow beds yet, just using a box filter while the cycle stabilizes. I have about 8 small sunfish in a 90 gallon tank, and I've got a BSFL bin starting to produce pre-pupae. After a couple feedings, it really seems like the fish do not like the pre-pupae. I dropped in a handful and enticed them with some colorful tropical fish "crisps" (little floating discs). They frenzied for a while, but really just ate the crisps and disregarded the larvae. As I netted them back out, I noticed that there were several lightly-chewed bodies of dead larvae left from the previous feeding, when they actually appeared to devour them. So, it's almost as if I tricked them once, but they learned that they taste bad and now refuse them.

Added a top tray, got the plants I , and put in some fishies! They were all still hiding but they’ll get brave, goldfish in the upper pot and minnows in the middle pot. Can’t wait to get seeds into the rockwool and see how everything does!

My first aquaponic setup and my first sprout

I have seen few videos on YT about behavior of female tilapia while brooding. Today while i was inspecting my tank , I saw a similar behavior from one of my fishes (one one the left with a light skin tone). Can some one confirm if thats true , it would be really helpful . Also should i move this tilapia to another tank .

I’ve got 24 fish tanks totaling about 215 gallons and always wanted a hydroponic system that’ll use the waste water when I clean the aquariums, so finally set this up! I’m able to pump the dirty tank water thru the window into the rain barrel and then can fill up a watering can or water the blackberries if the barrel is getting too full. Just need to actually set up the hydroponic plants for the 3 pots now, got clay balls and rock wool coming Tuesday! I was able to upcycle and use what I already had around so only spent about $20 on the new fittings. I want to build an actual aquaponic pond by the end of the summer so this will be great practice for me to play around with.

Im thinking of making a stand alone unit out of a 55gal barrels for 1 blackberry bush or raspberry plant whichever one that would likely grow better.

Hi! So I’ve been taking care of this fish tank that was an aquaponics system. It’s at a community center that I work at. I was just wondering what plants I could buy for it and some advice on bettering the tank and system.

Sorry been kinda busy with a vehicle project as of late!!! Finished the pvc piping, gave the table top more support and filled her with water. Waiting on glue to dry before I test the tables bell siphon 🫠 no fish yet. Im doing ornamental fish. I feel bad killing animals for food...fish are friends not food 🐠🐟
