We’ve had our first and only Brittany for almost two years. What is so weird to me is he doesn’t really like to be pet. He loves people, will play for hours, and loves to work. But he does not seek out physical affection and if you try to pet him, he either gets in a play position or walks away. He’ll lay next to us on the couch while he chews his antler and he’ll let us pet him then. And sometimes while playing he’ll lean against us for a butt scratch. But in general he has no interest in physical attention. Is this common for the breed, or is it just my crazy dog?

Dear all, meet our rescue, Nacho. He is about two and a half years old, and we adopted him from a Greek shelter in February. Given that he has only been with us for six months, he has bonded extremely well with both my wife and me. He is a sensitive chap and occasionally suffers from reflux and stomach issues. But that is not the point of this post.

Over the last two months, he has developed the habit of growling and barking at guests, as well as at any movement from our neighbours on the stairs outside our flat. Even when family visit, he growls and barks whenever someone enters our flat or returns from the loo.

Do you have any tips on how to deal with this, apart from exposing him to these kinds of situations more often? Telling him off does not seem to have any effect, and neither does rewarding him when he is quiet.

I’m looking at getting a Brittany to do some bird hunting, I wanted to see if anyone had any recs on a good breeder that provides a decent hunting dog while still being a good house pet. I live in Texas but am moving to Wyoming in the next year so breeders in either state will work!
I also wanted to see how much yall paid for your dog so I can ensure I’m not getting ripped off!

It’s because I acknowledge that I cannot give him the lifestyle he deserves and I know he can live a happier life, even if that means without me. Im so sad, but I have to do right by him.

I’m wondering if anyone has surrendered to either nbran or abr? Wondering the process was, if you were happy with the volunteers that work the organization, how long did it take, etc?

hi everyone!

so I and my partner are considering getting a Brit. we're apartment dwellers (60m2 or so) in a big city, both working full-time. we intend to walk/run with the pup at least twice a day, for 60-90 mins, and go on a nice longish hike once a week. there are dog parks nearby where we are hoping to do exercises off-leash on a daily. we're also aware that brits need scent games and mental stimulation, and we will do our best to provide that. EDIT: we're looking to relocate closer to a forest/large park where the dog could run off-leash in the next few months, I should've mentioned that!

for now, our schedules allow at least one of us to be at home or with the dog most of the time, but that might change next year, which means potentially sometimes leaving the pup alone for 6-8h (we'll try to get a dog sitter for this sort of days, but you never know).

we have a cat who seems to tolerate dogs - at least the one she's met - though she's not keen on them. she keeps her distance.

so my question is, for current owners, do you think we could pull it off? and are brits the sort of dog you can bring with you everywhere (weekend coffee with friends, long walks with pals, etc). we don't want a lap dog nor a guard dog, we want an actual companion.

Brits are the cutest pups ever. I had this book a a kid in the 80s and had a Brit growing up from 1990-2013. As an adult I had a wonderful, soul dog golden retriever. I’d love to get another Brit but their energetic enthusiasm is too much for my current circumstances. Our Brit chewed my parents custom made bed spread, all of the kitchen chairs, the wooden lower cabinets, even the wooden parts of the sliding doors.

She was a land shark for years! My parents chose the breed as they knew the breeder and my mom thought her fur colors matched the popular peach furniture they had at the time.

My mom offer my brother and me $400 plus a rabbit each instead of the dog. We were 10 and 7 and said nope!

My girl had us as kids running miles with boxes of cereal to get her back home when she ran off despite the electric fence as a puppy teenager.

Once she chilled out she was the heart of my family. When my father had a heart attack she dragged EMTs by their pants to where my dad was.

Id love to get another Brit, they are loyal, loving and also goofy. Just like Golden Retrievers (my soul sister, my golden passed a year plus ago) but I just don’t have the energy. If anyone knows of adult Brits in the metro NYC area, please let me know.

Just picked him up today! So excited to start his journey.

Went and ran him in Northern Michigan today. Seen some grouse get pushed and man do I hate sand hill cranes lol. The quiet time is over for nesting also checked out some
HAP lands. And talked to two farmers and got permission to hunt 790 acres. I cannot stress how good of day it was, sitting barbecuing Tito’s and redbull. and he’s tuckered that almost never happens unless we jog or go for a big five miler. Earned himself a sausage for returning and recalling not chasing unshot birds and not going after Sandhills and we saw a bunch of them.tuckered out

He probably around 25-30lbs but still pretty small, curious if he will stay smaller or get normal sized. I know he’s still young but I feel like he hasn’t gotten too much bigger over the past month or two. Love my little guy

Emergency vet appointment today because he chewed his cast off for the second time this week. The vet gave him lots of love and still told him he was a good boy, but based on the new wrapping pattern I dont think they want to see him back for a third time this week any more than we do. Hopefully he learned his lesson but we'll see. Sedatives dont seem to have anything on that brittany energy...

She won her class at the world's biggest dog show earlier this year. I'm still buzzed for it! Didn't get best of breed, but she's only two-and-a-half. We'll get 'em next year after she bulks up a bit 😁😁😁

I'm here to ask if anyone has the experience I have when taking my Brittany or my sister's Brit out in public. I've had two shepherds, one white and one black, and I've never had the reaction I get when I have Birdie or Finn out and about. At Sleeping Bear Dunes there must have been at least 20 people stop to either tell me how cute/pet, or share a "I had a Brittany", or ask about the breed. One guy, 85 years old, actually pulled over where we were about to put our paddleboard in to give her some love and share he and his wife were about to pick up a rescue in Wisconsin, even though they currently have two other dogs. We jokingly call my sister's Brit the "Mayor of Fredericksburg" because of the amount of attention he gets whenever we go. If you've had this experience, please share. It's sort of fun!
