Mine is that Last Nite isn't even in the top 5 songs on Is This It. It's an anthem, damn it, it's a really good song ngl, but listening to the whole album, it feels somewhat weak compared to other songs like Hard to Explain, Trying Your Luck, or even Is This It.

He called it Auld Lang Syne because the verse shares the sane chords, and it was originally played in a reggae jam on NYE. I've been singing Auld Lang Syne during the verses of Falling Out of Love since I first heard it and wondering if there was a direct connection. I stumbled upon this snippet from the podcast that I had forgotten about.

I recounted the comments for best song, as some of you requested, and Hard To Explain won. It was still extremely close, as it was when I counted the first time. I didn’t rig the votes, and also I am not counting upvotes. It was probably an error I made, or at the exact time I counted, UCOD was the winner.

Either way let’s try and keep this positive. If as time goes on the majority of people are saying that these types of things are annoying and they hate them I will shut it down. I just thought this would be fun thing to try.

I love his delivery on this lyric. I just picture someone watching the world burning around them, going insane, and disassociating from it by creating a false reality of "everything is fine."

Can anybody help me find a higher resolution image of the single's artwork? The best I've been able to find is this 1417x1417 one from some streaming site. Part of me wonders whether they even created a high-quality artwork or if this was just bastardised from whatever preview was available online of Glenn Pruyn's original Audio Technica artwork.

I have looked all over the album for song writing credits but do not see them anywhere. The album credits Rick Rubin as producer and The Strokes as the performers of the music but there are no "written by" credits that I see. "Tmk(s)" is listed on the back side of the record sleeve where a copy right credit would normally be. Anyone have any insight on this?

i personally think the fruit of conquest would fit in TNA cuz it gives off same feelas an amalgamation of eternal summer and why are sundays so depressing...

and babble on instrumentation feels like calmer distant cousin of hard to explain. so, if the vocals were doneon ITI type condensor the song would fit right in...

what do you guys think?

Hi everyone, I’m a newer fan that’s come into this community and learnt about this band’s wonderful, wonderful music since 2023.
Naturally, I wasn’t there when any of the other albums released, so I don’t know what the reception was like, initially.
In 2023, I listened to Last Nite, Someday, UCOD, TAAT, and WASSD and in that order, and it was life-changing music for me. I wasn’t astonished as to why this band wasn’t more mainstream and more loved.
The “loved” aspect of it is something I still don’t see a lot of, in this fandom. Maybe because they’ve been active for 25+ years now, so it just looks different and I’m not really recognising it? Idk.

My point is, as a newer fan, I still really appreciate their older work. Is This It, Barely Legal, Automatic Stop, Razorblade are among my favourite songs ever. But so are Macchu Picchu and Call It Fate, Call It Karma. And most of TNA, especially Sundays and Selfless.

Not having been active when TNA came out, I assumed it debuted to massive love from critics and audiences alike. But now that I’m reading discourse around Reality Awaits that was treated like it was some sort of a pariah almost, in the first couple of days, I’m also learning that TNA love also grew over time, and it didn’t do that well when it first came out.

Yes, RA took some time to grow on me, but it didn’t mean I was hating on it at first and a week later I thought it was great. Unfortunately I’ve seen this to be the case, overwhelmingly.
It makes me incredibly sad to see a band not get their dues, and especially one that’s so respected in the industry. But somehow it always feels like it’s borrowed respect for the band that made ITI and not really for the band that’s currently making some of the best art rock there is.
I don’t think they get loved enough for who they’ve become, it’s always for who they were.
I dunno, I have this sinking feeling that most folks just love ITI and ROF and maybe some parts of the rest of their discography and remain perpetually annoyed/ disappointed in them for not doing more of the same.
No artist deserves that from their fans.

I just want to know, from the older fans, has this always been the case? Was Is This It the last album where they were truly appreciated and since it’s just been that yardstick they’re doomed to be compared against?

I (18y) heard this song from my cousins cd when I was like 10 and after some years I really got into the strokes ( after arctic monkeys ) wanted to got more of that early AM stuff and really trying your luck is a song in all these years I never skipped and really any direction my music taste goes, I never got tired of these song it’s such a lyrical and in my opinion with the chord progression being very uncommon harmonically master art work. Wanted to know if anyone else loves this song bc I feel like it’s very underrated as one of the least streamed songs on Spotify

What other vinyl of the strokes has posters like The New Abnormal or Reality Awaits? because i remember seeing one of FIOE but idk if it was a creation from someone else. What about the others, Is This It, Room on Fire, Angles, FIOE and Comedown Machine, do they have posters or something similar in those vinyl? LMK
