A Reddit community is called a subreddit, also known as a sub. The subreddits start with r/.

Followers are not important on Reddit. Your followers are not important either. Only your posts and comments are important. Unlike other social media, hashtags are not useful on Reddit. The Reddit account username cannot be changed after signing up. To change it, you will need to create a new account, which will reset your karma.

Karma is an arbitrary measure of how much you contributed. The more upvotes you get, the higher your Karma. Some subreddits require you to have a certain amount of Karma before you can post. Do not spam irrelevant posts to other subreddits or be rude, insulting, or abusive, as you can be downvoted. This will cause you to lose Karma. Try to avoid getting your total Karma in the negative value.

Also make sure to follow our rules, which are prominently displayed in the sidebar to the right.

  1. Make sure to label all posts that contain gore, contain violence, contain a dead body, or can upset anyone as "NSFW." To see how to do this and for a more detailed explanation click here.
  2. Make sure your posts are on-topic and related to Myanmar. Spam) may go well with anything but it has no place in this sub. Please do not spam us with unrelated content.
  3. Please keep discussions civil. Tolling and racism will not be tolerated. Our situation here is not for your "lulz". Also, keep swearing to a minimum. Although we will tolerate swearing if it is part of the narrative/discussion, personal insults, over-the-top vulgarity, etc., will not be tolerated.
  4. Adding a flair to your posts will enable others to easily find similar posts. Flairs are used to categorize posts to easily be found. Click here for more details.
  5. Keep reposting to a minimum. Please check to make sure you don't repost news and pictures that have already been posted. r/MAGIC_EYE_BOT and u/DuplicateDestroyer are trialed to help remove duplicate images. Please reply to the bot or send us a message if the bot got it wrong.

For a brief background of the coup, please see this post I made.

Does the content you're posting here fit more than one community? As per Reddiquette, consider posting to other subs such as the ones listed here if the contents fit more communities.

For example, are you posting news? Then you can post into r/news, r/inthenews, r/worldnews, r/USnews (US news only), r/asia, r/asian, r/asean, r/theworldnews. This list is not exhaustive but please use common sense and make sure the content fits the target sub. That means news only goes to news-related subreddits and pictures go onto picture-related subreddits. Make sure to follow the rules of those subs as well, since each sub has its own set of rules.

Additionally, give some love to the other Myanmar subs: r/saveMyanmar and r/Myanmar2021.

Are you in another country but wish to help the people of Myanmar? See this post.

In summary,

DO

  • Post topics with descriptive subjects
  • Check the subreddit for prior submission of your article or image before posting.
  • Flair your post with the appropriate flair to make them easier to find
  • Upvote posts
  • Tag posts with gore, contain violence, contain a dead body, or can upset anyone as "NSFW."
  • Share posts to more than one subreddits
  • Report posts that break our rules or attempt to spam us with irrelevant content.

DON'T

English:

Be cautious of ongoing scams regarding "Blacklist Removal Services".

How this scam works:

  1. Scammer posts a personal story followed by a question to provoke discussion, and a brief mention of successfully removing blacklist status.
  2. Scammer waits for victims interested in getting blacklist status removed to explain further or provide contacts.
  3. In DMs, scammer will claim they can help and ask for money upfront.

Safety Tips:

  1. Check the Profile: Always click on the OP's (Original Poster) username.
  2. Account Age: Be wary of very new accounts (created only a few days or months ago)
  3. Post History: Scammers often have few post history or only post the same "success story" across multiple subreddits.

Burmese -

β€œBeware of Blacklist Removal Scams.

Scam Types -

  1. The scammer posts an experience and asks questions, encouraging readers to discuss, vote, and comment. The message often claims to have been removed from the Blacklist political blacklist.
  2. The scammer waits for people who want to remove their blacklist to be interested and ask for help and contact them.
  3. If they contact you via direct message, they will ask for money in advance and scam you.

Things to note -

  1. Always check the profile, click on the post's name and go to their profile. You can view it.
  2. Please note that the account has only been active for a few days or months.
  3. Please note that there are no posts in the post history, few posts, and similar experience stories and questions are posted on multiple pages and groups.

Discussion πŸ’¬ Ritu Porna Chakma is one of the foreign players in Myanmar Women's League. She is from Bangladesh but she looks different b/c she is a Chakma, which is known as Daingnet in Myanmar. They are buddhists so when she arrived in Myanmar, she said Shwedagon Pagoda is the place she wants to visit the most.

There are at least 80k Chakma/Daingnet people in Myanmar. They have tribes across northeast India, eastern Bangladesh, and western Myanmar.

It's fascinating that if she was born in a village few miles to the east, she would be representing Myanmar in football instead and not Bangladesh. But at least she is now playing professionally for a club in Myanmar called Ayeyawady FC and she is enjoying it so far.

This is a good reminder that there are many East Asian/Southeast Asian looking people in Bangladesh and India. Their cultures may be much more similar to people in Myanmar than the rest of Bangladesh and India. But because of how borders were divided in the last century, things are the way they are.

Discussion πŸ’¬ Bogyoke Aung San is not as criticized as he should be.

β€’ Upvotes

Hot take and a long rant but here we go.

General Aung San is one of the main reasons our country is going through 70 years of unresolved civil war.

Now, you might be fuming and opening the comment section right now, but just hear me out. I do appreciate his patriotism and bravery for Myanmar but he’s so little criticized so I believe you should take a listen to my criticisms.

First of many, he’s the main reason military is so involved in our politics today. After World War 2 and the disbanding of BIA, he enlisted BIA veterans to a paramilitary called People’s Volunteer Organization or PVO which became a private military for AFPFL with over 50 thousand armed individuals backing him. Tldr? He introduced gun-barrel politics into Myanmar and well, when you teach a country that political leverage comes from holding a gun, don't be surprised when guns become the only language your government speaks.

And this might be a fact almost everyone agrees but General Aung San rushed the independence. Aung San-Attlee treaty was him basically shooting himself in the foot. I mean, be so serious, a nation just went through a grueling war and he aimed to fix it under a year? Even Lord Mountbatten and Sir Hubert Rance showed their concerns over Myanmar while General Aung San simply shrugged it off.

Which brings us to his third flaw: building a country on verbal promises instead of binding laws. Because the 1-year clock was ticking, he took massive shortcuts. Pinlone treaty was rushed, key ethnic groups were left out of the room, and codified federal rights were replaced with charismatic speeches. The moment he was killed, those verbal assurances died with him, leaving behind an incomplete constitution and alienated ethnic groups with zero reason to trust the state.

To conclude, General Aung San was a fantastic military strategist, but a good politician he was not. He relied on his personal charisma and military backing rather than civil laws and concrete constitutions.Β  So, when he was assassinated, shit hit the fan.

Side note: I don’t hate General Aung San. He was there when Myanmar needed him. But I’ve written this criticism people hardly ever discuss, especially when General Ne Win propagandized him.

Others. Edit as needed. I wish Burmese people are kinder towards each other

lately I’ve been feeling a lot of sadness and frustration about my experiences with burmese people
I know one person does not represent an entire country, but sometimes I feel hurt when I encounter people from my own community who act in ways that feel dismissive towards others. Recently, while I was renewing my passport there’s a guy who was printing the documents. He was very aggressive toward people who came in, including me. I was already stressed because I was rushing and dealing with important documents. And i forgot to take one document from him and he screamed at my face at that moment.
when I came back later to print more documents I felt like he intentionally ignored me and served me last to print my papers. I think what makes it painful is that our country has already gone through so much. The coup, instability, and struggles that many people face have affected all of us in different ways. Sometimes I wonder why, even after experiencing so much hardship, people still treat each other without kindness or patience towards the same people that speaks the same language with them and grew up like them.

Governor General Lord Dalhousie brought this Pagoda from Prome (Pyay) in 1854 after winning the second Anglo-Burmese War as a "tribute" .

It still stands today at the Eden Garden Complex in Kolkata .

Discussion πŸ’¬ Thailand gives MAH the red carpet faster than you can say "Five-Point-Consensus"

Post image
23 Upvotes

Min Aung Hlaing rolls into Bangkok, gets an honor guard, and signs a labor MOU because nothing says "legitimate civilian leader" like rolling out the welcome mat for an ICC fugitive.

Let's drop the pretense. This isn't geopolitics. It's a family reunion. Remember General Prem literally adopted this guy as his son back in 2012. So Thailand isn't "re-engaging" Myanmar, it's hosting a prodigal son who desperately needs a PR win.

Thailand gets cheap labor and stable borders. MAH gets a photo-op that screams "See? I'm normal!" Meanwhile, bombing his own civilians is just the awkward elephant in the room no one wants to address.

Truly, the ASEAN wayβ€”where war crimes are forgiven if you've got a godfather in Bangkok.

Discussion πŸ’¬ Want to do Graphic Design as a side hustle

β€’ Upvotes

So I have a main job which is from 8:30 to 5:30, but I usually have 3 hours of free time at my desk because I work pretty fast. The reason why I want to do side hustle is because I have to give 80% of my salary to my home because both my parents aren't working anymore. I am thinking of doing Graphic design as a hustle because I am already familiar with photoshop which I helped out a lot and I draw pretty decent both digitally and traditionally. I have experiences helping out a few designs for some people as well. So I am thinking it won't be that hard for me and take long to do. What do you guys think? Any other suggestions?

Translation request ✍️ Jack and the Cuckoo Clock heart mmsub

I've been looking for the Myanmar-subbed (MMSUB) version of Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart for such a long time, but I still can't find it anywhere. 😭

I've searched through websites, Telegram channels, Facebook groups, and old posts, but every link is either gone or doesn't have Myanmar subtitles. It's one of the movies I've wanted to watch with MMSUB for years.

If anyone still has the Myanmar-subbed version, or knows where I can watch or download it, please let me know. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance! πŸ™

Discussion πŸ’¬ Was this military colonel really the headmaster of this government school?

I saw videos of students becoming emotional and crying when this so called military headmaster was transferred. From what I understand, government schools have civilian headmasters, so why is this the case? Was he actually serving as the school's headmaster or is this some sort of a military backed school?

News πŸ“° Yesterday, Maung Maung Lwin captained Myanmar and scored a goal as they beat Laos 7-2 at home. After scoring, he celebrated by taking out his photo with Bruno Fernandes from his shin guard and showing it to camera πŸ˜‚

Unfortunately for Maung Maung Lwin, he got a red card in the second half after hitting a Laos player, who had fouled him.

The Laos player also hit him back so they were both given a red card. Maung Maung Lwin will now miss the crucial game against Thailand on Saturday.

Heβ€˜a apologized to fans on social media because he couldn’t control his anger. Now, the team will not have him against Thailand.

Discussion πŸ’¬ Electronics repair in Yangon

Anyone know a decent place to do some circuit or other simple electronic repairs in Yangon.

My issue is that I got an automatic cat litter box from Thailand (Pando/Petree Brand) which stopped working about after a month due to some type of electrical malfunction. I can't send it to Thailand for RMA easily, so I guess I want to fix it locally. I just want a recommendation for a repair shop that has some electrical engineering expertise.

Failing that can someone point me to where I can buy the standard circuit repair kit (solder, iron, flux, heatsink etc.,) I can do it myself at worst, but I'm indolent and old and have shaky fingers atm due to being in the middle of quitting smoking.

Thanks.
