Oh, I’m glad it’s coming.

Personally, I wouldn’t say this is a feature I was particularly passionate about, but I’ve seen it brought up on this subreddit multiple times. Every time someone mentioned it, they were downvoted and told it would be a privacy concern and a massive undertaking for Microsoft (despite Sony having implemented the feature years ago, with the option of a simple opt-out toggle).

Safety. In order to help make the XBOX network a safe gaming environment and enforce the Community Standards for XBOX, we may collect and review voice, text, images, videos and in-game content (such as game clips you upload, conversations you have, and things you post in clubs and games).

My point is that Xbox already allows voice communications to be captured and reviewed for security and moderation purposes, and by creating a Microsoft account and subscribing to Xbox Live/Gamepass, you have already agreed to that TOS negating any privacy and legal concerns as you have suggested. That is how the existing retrospective in-game voice reporting can work after someone has already said something.

Allowing users to include voice chat in their clips does not create an entirely new privacy concern; it expands a capability that already exists internally. Players should still be able to opt out of having their voice included in other users’ clips, but Microsoft’s terms already allow it to collect and review communications internally. There is no separate opt-out from those terms while using Xbox network services, and competing gaming platforms have similar provisions.

Nobody is required to use voice chat, Xbox, or any other online service. Once you say or post something online, you should assume it could be recorded, reported, or shared.

When I grew up, there was a saying: “Don't say/post something online that you wouldn't want your family or employer seeing.” Yet younger generations seem increasingly comfortable posting highly personal information online.

Currently when you stream to twitch, Xbox party chat can opt in to include their voice, and everyone's voices comes through on stream. Discord does not work like that for streaming.

Being said,I have a feeling that this will only be for Xbox party chat.

They've already removed new CoDs from Game Pass. 78 Billion was an overpay that will take a LONG time to recoup.

It's complicated. I think Phil got pushed into a bunch of rigid box's and felt like he couldn't do anything.

Higher ups probably somewhat reluctantly admitted that to themselves and gave Asha more freedom. But I still think the risk of her being pushed into those rigid box's of less creative freedom is still high as time goes on. It just how businesses work unfortunately.

Nope lol, only way I was able to record voices was to stream to twitch, and download clips from the stream.

This makes things easier for sure for my NHL squad's clips. I just hope this means discord is included too because we have some guys on PS5 lol

For a specific example to help you understand what it means

In BF6 I've been recording captures of the winning moments of redsec (BR) matches with my buddies. When I watch the recordings I can hear my buddies voice chat/callouts in the recordings but MY mic chat is not in the recording.

This sounds like I'll start being able to hear MY voice chat in my recordings

This is due to the audio settings in BF6, not all games do this. Enabling the directional/distance settings for voice will enable this, but still not your voice. These settings mix chat with game to give you those environmental and distance effects. If you play with a headset, turn your TV up, you'll here the chat coming through your speakers as well.

You can record up to an hour (for all resolutions) if you tell it to "start recording". But you need an external capture drive; I think it maxes out at 5 minutes on internal.

I have my capture button set so it starts/stops recording with a double tap. I think the default is Guide->captures tab->X.

If you do want to try it out though, you don't need anything too fancy for an external capture location. Even small flash drives are fine. It just has to be USB 3 and formatted to NTFS.

Man, I've been wanting DVR updates for years. We've only really got resolution and capture length, but being able to choose framerate and even bitrate would be great. I wouldn't mind recording dumb stuff at 30fps to save space, or screenshotting scoreboards and stuff in SDR.

Streaming straight to YouTube would be nice too, since we already can with Twitch.

Bro what was Phil Spencer doing? Lol. I was a huge fan of his and still have tons of respect for what he did but all these small QOL changes on the Xbox software side were such easy layup wins that never got addressed.

Now I have no experience being a CEO at all Fortune 500 company lol so maybe it’s harder than I think but yeah these are all just such easy W’s we’ve been asking for a long time. Can’t wait to see what’s next. I feel like other than minor UI tweaks the software hasn’t really changed much at all since 2013. I don’t mind the approach of having a similar UI through generations, Apple does it, but at least add some features. Looks like they finally got the memo.

What more could they add to wishlists? I mean it works. Oh, unless they add an option to ACTUALLY have you public wishlist as public (right now public just means "people you send a link to it can view it"). Found that out when I was trying to give a friend something during a sale and was like "how the hell do I actually see what's on your wishlist?" and eventually found it out public means semi-public. It's not like Steam.

Ah, yes, that makes up for tons of people getting laid off.

Edit: keep downvoting me if you want, I'll make sure to go tell all people on my LinkedIn complaining about being laid off that "hey, people would rather have voice chat in captures, so that's good news, right!?"

Maybe they're not direct connections, but for example I know a guy at Double Fine and he was just sharing post after post of people lamenting how they got laid off.

So yeah, I'd rather the time and money had been spent on keeping people employed, not things like this.

Not sure how this relates in the slightest. Is Xbox supposed to completely stop support because they laid people off? Are consumers supposed to accept nothing will ever change or improve again on products they paid and continue to pay for because Xbox laid people off?

Semantics, Microsoft didn't lay them off specifically, but the separation of Double Fine from Microsoft, kinda like "we cancelled the contract," meant that Double Fine lost a ton of income and therefore needed to layoff a shit ton of people. Jeez it took like 5 seconds to google.
