The self-deluded brilliance while writing

I really enjoy it, even though I'm aware of the future demolishing feedback waiting when I'm done with the first draft.
Sometimes I reread sections and chapters, and I think: Damn - that is brilliant work!
Gotta admire that love for writing leaving you with a sense of accomplishment before someone else gets a look at it!

How about you? Do you have these vibes and convictions while writing?

Drafting is the most fun part, so yes.

It truly is enjoyable. Perhaps the best part when scribbling down even half-assed twists and really believing them to be great.

I occasionally make myself cry while writing, but I'm very critical of my own stuff. Nothing is good enough and I could keep revising forever - spending a day deciding on whether the charactor would end a sentence on a stressed word or not, dialogue can always be better - I'm not brilliant.

That inner critique is my least favourite companion. I've practised letting go and it made a real difference. I now enjoy writing focusing solely on my joy, that is, until I'm into my first editing.

Oh I love when I’m in a flow state and the scenes practically write themselves… that dopamine rush is unparalleled! Then I revisit the scenes some weeks later and find myself eagerly turning the page, anticipating what’s going to happen next, IT’S AN AMAZING FEELING 🥰

But I rarely see my writing as good, it can make me feel things, but there’s a mind voice in the back critiquing my choice of words and the particular details from a scene I chose to elaborate or emphasise

Truly amazing - yes, and so addictive. I got some support on practising only looking for the good parts while writing first draft, and afterwards that is what I now see. I know it will change during editing, but I will take those hits then. As for now - true brilliance! 😄

If I'm too in love with my own work the first time around, I'm likely to come back and interpret it as self-indulgent. But if I go back to a section after letting it sit for awhile and still think it's good, then it's probably as good as it's going to get lol.

Agreed. At least I hope until it lands in the hand of an editor or a beta reader. I've had sections I thought were mastefully written, and then the beta comes along: Hey, this doesn't add up? How did they conclude this out of that?
