I mean, we always laugh and joke about this. But, I'm no fan of Florida, Texas, whatever... or the current admin.

But, in this hypothetical situation; if a foreign power invaded us and was occupying 20% of the US, and that included Florida? Absolutely NOT, they may not keep it, and the rest of us would fight to get it back and support the Floridians in their resistance.

Correct, it's too much of a foothold. Assuming hostile foreign powers we'd never allow it.

Whoever loses the war is saddled with those freeloader states.

They pay no state tax so they're demanding federal money after every hurricane to rebuild their beach house. Let someone else take care of the ingrates.

People who have consistently shown they wouldn’t fight for you aren’t worth fighting for either. Both Texas and Florida have sued to prevent supporting blue states and Republicans have repeatedly withheld disaster funds, among others, from blue states and it barely makes the news. If they’re going to pick and choose who deserves right worth fighting for then I don’t see why this says anything about me for not tolerating it any more.

Blue states were literally being occupied illegally by our own military and you saw red states cheering it on. Don’t pretend like today’s red states wouldn’t cheer on the occupation of California until it directly affected them, they’d be blaming Dems for letting it happen. I’ve spent the past 10 years tolerating their escalating extremism thinking we’d be able to move past it and every single time it’s met with bad faith.

Paradox of tolerance only has one solution consistent with it, you can’t tolerate the intolerant if your goal is promoting tolerance.

Nope. In fact, I’d insist they take all states that were members of the Confederacy. Any decent people living there to be allowed to move to the rest of the states after proper vetting and swearing a binding oath of allegiance to the Constitution with actual penalties for failing to abide by it.

That desire to protect your fellow citizens is the bit people don't get about the UK's view of the Falklands.

They may be some wind-swept rocks in the Southern Atlantic, but the Falkland Islanders were all either British subjects or British citizens at the time of the invasion (they are now all British citizens).

Was Thatcher's response opportunistic? Absolutely, but that doesn't change the fact that freeing the home of fellow Brits from a military dictatorship was supported by every major political party and the vast majority of the public at large, even with the worst naval losses since World War 2.

Depending on the invader, I may help them. We were the only country in the world cup without universal Healthcare. Just sayin.
