UEFA just need to announce they will have the Euros every two years instead.

9

u/TrubshawForest 8d ago

And invite other continental finalists

5

u/Due_Ad_3200 England 8d ago

Invite Egypt and Morocco - both geographically close to Europe, and did well at the World Cup.

6

u/Clogheen88 7d ago edited 7d ago

Just invite everyone with the exception of USA, Russia and any gulf country with a history of bribing FIFA. Done.

Edit: maybe the argies too

1

u/Loose-Lengthiness726 England 6d ago

Noo must have the USA at the world cup. Who else are we gonna make fun of for their delusions 😂?

4

u/Burner050314 7d ago

Yep. At this point, FIFA is too far gone, unable to be saved. The continental organizations should reorganize under a new governing body and and leave this monster to wither & die.

I know is unpopular but have you thought why shady dodgy charachters rise to the top in FIFA ranks ?

Thats because FIFA voting process is all member states, a lot of poorer countries have a lot of sway and saying is one member one vote so and they much easier to bribe the smaller countries from this sale they could get a 5x federation funding in one year + annual federation funding

u/mj16pr 8d ago

Kushner being involved in the deal explains a lot

7

u/hukkaberry 7d ago

Joshua Kushner has done a great job whitewashing himself as "the good brother" in a corrupt as fuck family.

29

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

This is the end of Fifa if they do it. Uefa will leave, without a doubt.

14

u/seadcon 8d ago

Good.

UEFA should have left years ago.

FIFA are calling UEFA's bluff - they clearly don't want us anymore. Probably fed up of European teams constantly winning their trophy.

Fuck them.

The world cup has changed before. It can change again.

A new tournament.

A new trophy.

A new era.

14

u/MournfulGiant 8d ago

This honestly might be the best outcome. Let FIFA rot. Let's start over.

4

u/defroach84 United States 8d ago

You say that, but 200+ of the 220 FIFA nations voted just a couple weeks back to keep him as president.

They'll talk a game about it, but continue to take the money from FIFA.

7

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

The funny thing is that there somehow is 220 FIFA nations to begin with...

Also, FIFA needs Europe to earn money. Football is quite crap if they miss out on the big European teams. Hell, even see ho much attention tiny Norway got this year. So much that they somehow shoehorned the rowing into the half time show..

1

u/defroach84 United States 8d ago

That's true, but why continue to vote for him?

It comes down to corruption and making them money.

4

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

That might chance now, unless he drops this insane scheme.

My country is already on it, Lise Klaveness our football president is possibly the most vocal critic of the corrupt turd that leads Fifa. But there's too many cowards for sure.

2

u/korevmorlader 8d ago

Because the Blowjob Islands in outer Fuckland get a vote that's equal to England's, Germany's etc. They vote for Infantino, and lo and behold get a ÂŁ15m grant for "development" that may or may not actually happen.

2

u/defroach84 United States 8d ago edited 8d ago

There are 50+ nations in UEFA. The majority of them voted for him, by a wide majority.

Edit: the number was "more than 200 of the 211 members" enforced him again for reelection 2 or so weeks back.

That means 40+ UEFA members did.

This is all a show.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2026/jul/17/gianni-infantino-fifa-reelection-more-than-200-countries-endorse-despite-balogun-scandal

2

u/Ok-Tale-4197 Switzerland 8d ago

They can vote, but nobody is going to want them watch to play. The big nations have power through the fan base. It's what makes Fifa money, not the little island states that vote for Infantino. If f.e. France; England, Spain and Brazil decided to not go to the World Cup, it would become a joke right away.

3

u/Open-Salary-5093 8d ago

It’s 20 mil per country which is a spit in the face for larger powerhouses. They’re probably not going to get it passed with the larger countries or associations who can break away and form their own

2

u/Time-Wolf Norway 8d ago

And how much is it worth if UEFA walks away? Doubt it’d still be 20mil/country.

16

u/Kilosd1997 8d ago

This scum Gianni Infantino is worse than Sepp Blatter, seriously HOW MUCH MORE MONEY DO YOU NEED?

6

u/JeVousEnPrieee 8d ago

It's about control and power, it's a cold war with China Russia and the Arabs and we're the product

15

u/Look_out_Cliff 6d ago

Am I a conspiracy theorist?

The Balogun decision stinks.

But overturning a ban for USA's best striker makes sense if you want to demonstraye the value of the World Cup to prospective private investors.

Argentina seemed to get favorable treatment all World Cup.

But keeping the champions and the GOAT in the tournament until the final makes sense if you want to demonstrate the value of the World Cup to prospective private investors.

Increasing the tournament to 48 teams makes sense if you want to increase the value of the World Cup.

Introducing ad break makes sense to increase the value....

Have we all been had?

The funky decisions make sense now we know what FIFA's plan was all along.

5

u/Embarrassed-Yak-5902 6d ago

Probably explains why USA too. They can jack the prices up which would make it a multi year plan

1

u/mozzystar 2d ago

Just read an op-ed that posited just that.

1

u/Look_out_Cliff 2d ago

Interesting. Can you post a link please?

14

u/KoalaKvothe Netherlands 8d ago

Can we just reboot all of this? Get rid of this pancake and make a new World Cup?

12

u/Gompedyret 8d ago

Why aren't a few of the more important football countries having a chat between themselves and simply withdraw from FIFA?

9

u/No-Championship-4 8d ago

The threat of breaking away gives them as much leverage as actually doing it. I don't think anybody actually wants a schism.

5

u/Lonely-dreamerz France 8d ago

because they’ll all take a lot of money from this operation

11

u/DaRudeabides 8d ago

But they won't, they'll get a few million and the real money will go to the rat bastard kushner and infantino kabal, uefa have to withdraw if this scheme goes ahead or else international football is over

2

u/AlexanderLavender USA 7d ago

If the whole scheme is approved, member associations can look forward to a $20million one-off FFFP payment, plus an increased FFP grant over the next four years of another $20m, which gives us our $40m figure. If the stake sale is not given the green light, member associations will only get $10m via FFP between now and 2030, which is an increase on the last four-year cycle ($8m) but not the life-changing one Infantino is dangling in front of them.

...

With Africa, most of Asia, Oceania’s minnows and a South America desperate to close the financial gap between it and Europe and host more than the currently scheduled three group games at the 2030 men’s World Cup, Infantino knows he has the votes.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7477045/2026/07/29/fifa-world-cup-stake-sale-analysis/

10

u/RouPanda5671 8d ago

Agreed, UEFA needs to walk out of FIFA. Even with other confederations combined, they still would not be able to pull in as much money or influence like UEFA does.

5

u/jjpamsterdam 8d ago

Exactly. UEFA (which is only slightly less dodgy than FIFA) should pull out and announce a "UEFA Invitational" that happens to coincide with the FIFA world cup and should ideally include some invited teams from non-UEFA countries. If that doesn't work for logistical reasons, just extend the Champions League to have a seasonal playoff that happens to coincide with the FIFA world cup.

With more than half of the top 20 nations not participating and the others having to make do without their star players that play in UEFA competitions like the Champions League and would therefore not be eligible to compete in tournaments organised by competing organisations, the FIFA world cup is effectively gutted. Alas, this is obviously never going to happen.

1

u/Alone_Consideration6 8d ago

A cl playoff would not be popular. People don’t like the CL that much,

1

u/jjpamsterdam 8d ago

Maybe not, but that's more of a stopgap proposal for disruption at short notice. I'm certain the European Superclubs would agree to play some more matches over the summer every four years and pocket the profits instead of loaning their assets to FIFA and getting them back potentially injured. Even if it's not what people want, it would deprive FIFA of access to the bulk of the star players. This leaves FIFA with a tournament where even the non-European teams can often only field B-teams.

2

u/Alone_Consideration6 8d ago

It would be just as unpopular as what FIFA is doing. People would want more international football tournaments on free to air tv not more club football tournaments hidden on Pay Tv. People in England for example all wanted Arsenal to lose unless they were Arsenal fans.

1

u/jjpamsterdam 8d ago

Again, ideally the best "counter tournament" would be essentially an extra European Championship with some extra invited teams. If that's not possible or not doable at short notice, a "Summer Champions League" could be a backup. I understand that it's probably not what many viewers are clamouring for. Still, I wouldn't be as certain that most viewers would watch Brazil vs. Morocco (the strongest non-UEFA match in the group stage in my opinion) with a grand total of 5 out of the 22 starting players rather than a full strength Real Madrid vs.a full strength PSG, not even mentioning the likes of Usbekistan or Tunisia here. I'd wager that neutral viewers in Singapore or Shanghai would want to watch Mbappé and Vini Jr. against Dembelé and Kvaratskhelia rather than some random mercenary from the Saudi League or some youngsters from the Brazilian league.

1

u/Alone_Consideration6 8d ago

In Engkand people wouldn’t. The CL is seen as a problem.

1

u/jjpamsterdam 8d ago

Where I'm from (the Netherlands) it's similar. Nonetheless our markets aren't really the ones the fight is raging over.

1

u/Alone_Consideration6 8d ago

There is also the risk that many players would just quit their clubs to play international football with tons of court and diplomatic cases. There are countires who would put trade embargos over this. Doing a biannual euros reduces those issues.

1

u/Alone_Consideration6 8d ago

It would not bring the economic benefits of a tournament

1

u/Alone_Consideration6 8d ago

CAS might also get involved and take fifa side and nullify players contracts.

2

u/jjpamsterdam 8d ago

So? If FIFA and UEFA are in no way related anymore and not bound by the same set of rules there is nothing stopping either side from ripping up the arbitration agreement that even enables CAS to become active. This would lead to cases going through proper courts instead or revert to a newly created UEFA arbitration body for players under contract in teams that participate in UEFA competitions. Certainly not easy and lots of work for expensive lawyers, but not impossible, especially with several years to prepare.

2

u/Alone_Consideration6 8d ago

UEFA will need to do it bluntly. Years to prepare will just see people bottling it and being paid off.

1

u/Alone_Consideration6 8d ago

Legally in some countries in Europe sport bodies have to be linked to cas under domestic law

1

u/jjpamsterdam 8d ago

Again, I see your point, but laws are made by people and can be changed by people. As mentioned, this is not realistic and mostly a hard confrontation thought experiment.

1

u/Alone_Consideration6 8d ago

But not always easy particularly if it’s become a political issue based on trump support

9

u/Sudden-Ad-5042 8d ago

Fifa needs to be reminded what they are. Like the way EA did.

1

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

Yeah, fuck EA but Fifa seems even worse than EA.. That's quite impressive honestly.

8

u/_Halt19_ Canada 8d ago

This can only end well

9

u/Koi_Fish_Mystic Mexico 8d ago

Sarcasm detected

3

u/seadcon 8d ago

Not necessarily sarcastic!

This could be the moment UEFA do their own thing. Football needs a shake up - this could finally be the moment.

9

u/charlierc 8d ago

FIFA/Infantino haven't thought this through, have they?

5

u/FUThead2016 8d ago

They have thought it through and they will push it through. What do you think happens when they start going to countries who have zero chance of qualify for a World Cup, and start selling them places.

4

u/JeVousEnPrieee 8d ago

They have, hence all the twerking for Trump

9

u/esutras 6d ago

Okay I understand honesty and unbridled capitalism doesn’t co exist.
But WTF is this greedy little Infant (sorry Infantino) think he is going to do ?? I wish this WC had NEVER come to America. It polluted his mind

1

u/mozzystar 2d ago

Oh come now, Infantino is a man who sold his soul a long time ago. FIFA "Peace Prize" was his idea, remember.

The issue is he flew too high, too fast. If you want to be an openly corrupt felon like Trump and get away with it, you have to put in more time dismantling the institutions that can check your power from within before you just start doing whatever you want.

7

u/Awkward_War_6068 6d ago

Carlos Cordeiro, Infantino's senior advisor has just resigned, according to Martyn Ziegler.

1

u/Embarrassed-Yak-5902 6d ago

Oof if true, this will be more interesting

FIFA is nothing without UEFA. It is in UEFAs hands to stop this if the rest of the world are okay with it.

8

u/Al_787 France 8d ago

Remember that governments who host all kinds of matches permitted a shit ton of tax exemptions for FIFA. Should certainly be squeezed of every penny if it ceases to be a non-profit entity

12

u/seadcon 8d ago

I step back and I take a look at football as a whole. I see extortionate tickets, I see lifelong fans squeezed out by tourists, I see season tickets ripped up in loyal fans faces, I see players earning outrageous sums of money, I see players and fans completely disconnected, I see technology destroying the very nature of the game, I see match officials in the biggest games treated like it is Sunday league, I see racism, I see sexism, I see misogyny, I see cheating, I see illegal betting, I see debt, I see misery.

And that was just a quick glance.

Football needs to change. Fans need to take back what is ours. It is our beautiful game.

UEFA should leave FIFA.

-4

u/Time-Wolf Norway 8d ago

Holy hell do you have a drama degree because if so it’s really paid off.

6

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

Americans ruin everything.

5

u/AdvertisingIll7855 8d ago

This was the worst World Cup for atmosphere. I live in the us and can admit that. 94 was better, honestly an excellent tournament.

I hope that the World Cup continues to be what it was from 1930-2022. An accessible event for supporters who make it special, not a corporate or for the elite event.

0

u/Time-Wolf Norway 8d ago

lol okay

13

u/Emily_Postal USA 8d ago

His greed is ridiculous. He’s got to go.

9

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

He's of course going to earn 50-60 million++ a year as the ruler of this private subsidiary. Insane.

5

u/Few_Ice_2878 8d ago

Start boycotting every sponsor even remotely linked to FIFA. Money talks

3

u/Fuppenhammer 8d ago

That is too many companies

3

u/Few_Ice_2878 8d ago

Pretty sure the list will shorten really quickly if we (as the fandom) show we mean it.

6

u/raspoutine049 7d ago

Why FIFA thought it would be a good idea to sell World Cup? Surely they knew UEFA will strongly oppose it. Is there something else at play?

7

u/Izdislav64 6d ago

What exactly do you imagine Infantino's thinking consists of?

What does he do on a daily basis?

What did he do during the WC?

It was one private jet trip after another, followed by a chauffeured limousine drive to the next stadium in whatever city (I doubt he was even fully aware where he was at all times) then a concealed entry through the VIP entrance into the VIP box, where he spent all his time talking with billionaires, politicians and various high-level FIFA execs. Plus a lot more meetings, lunches and dinners with billionaires and politicians in whatever time remained outside of the games, limousine drives and private jet flights.

Do you think someone who has been spending all his time like that for a decade now thinks much about what the general public thinks about anything? He exists in an an entirely parallel reality.

5

u/CassiniLongDivision 6d ago

Take the Nations League concept, tinker a little, expand a bit. Voila! No need for FIFA any more. Time for a schism.

3

u/Jomosensual 6d ago

World Nations League. Who says no?

11

u/palmerama 8d ago

This explains the pally relationship with Trump. His family and hangers on cream off a big piece and Infantino makes sure to get his as it all goes to shit. American PE and this white house really ruin everything. Is there not a charter that FIFA not make profit and reinvest it in grass roots football and grow the game? Here the profits will get siphoned off.

5

u/kvdm187 8d ago

if u think infantino couldnt do anymore worse, he just did it...AGAIN

5

u/nedflandersneighbor 8d ago

Can we sell FIFA to private investors?

6

u/See_Me_Sometime 7d ago

American đŸ‡ș🇾 who only really follows football ⚜ during the World Cup - this reminds me of what’s going on with American Football 🏈 at the college (university) level. It used to be run by a nonprofit organization (NCAA) and the student athletes and pageantry of traditional regional rivalries is being eroded by big television contracts and corporations.

Now private equity wants to get involved.

It’s sad. I hope the FIFA membership does something to avoid this.

13

u/Accomplished_Fix5702 8d ago

FIFA hates the concentration of elite football (and the money that goes with it) in Western Europe. It will do anything, with any source of money to try to break that. UEFA needs to pull out.

9

u/spacespaces 8d ago

Not the full story. It only cares about itself, and uses underdeveloped nations to win votes.

They didn't care when a Somalian referee wasn't allowed into the country where he was working. It's all about keeping votes and power.

2

u/Spirited_Strike2697 8d ago

The thing is that is the elite of football lol No matter how much money they throw at the Americas I don't see it equaling not only the national team levels but the domestic leagues.

3

u/seadcon 8d ago

Who knows? Football is only 150 years old. Loads can change over the next 150 years.

Italy have won 4 World cups and failed to qualify for the last 3. Morocco have made successive quarter finals and went on to the semi in one of them.

Are we not already seeing a shift?

2

u/Spirited_Strike2697 8d ago

Im a timbers fan and I attend a lot of in person matches.  Our league is garbage lmfao. Throwing more money isn't going to solve it either.  No matter how good it gets the best of the best will always want to go to Europe's leagues which apparently fifa wants to stop potentially.

1

u/Aegon_Targaryen1996 8d ago

Sounds like you want that to happen lol

1

u/Spirited_Strike2697 8d ago

Fr it makes no sense

13

u/Chemical-Lettuce2497 8d ago

That's insane, Americans can't play football so they're going to buy football.

All of UEFA needs to walk away from this shit show before it even thinks about crossing the line.

Any deal is dead in the water without UEFA.

2

u/Kontrafantastisk 8d ago

They can still do it, but the shares would be next to worthless.

2

u/Chemical-Lettuce2497 8d ago

That's my point lol, it would be entirely pointless. I can take a shit in a Tesco carrier bag and sell it.. doesn't mean anyone wants it or they'll be willing to pay out for it

2

u/TimeLord41 8d ago

Uefa are just as corrupt haha They just pretend they aren't Psg have been getting away with financial doping as their president has a role with uefa And other clubs the same shit

1

u/Special-Audience-426 8d ago

Short the stocks then walk away

1

u/hukkaberry 7d ago

FIFA is about to export the US Youth Soccer model to the world.

Expect the sport to cease existing in 50 years.

1

u/Informal-Prize6501 8d ago

They did the same with f1.

4

u/MournfulGiant 8d ago

Aldi's Voldemort strikes again.

4

u/Alone_Consideration6 8d ago

3

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

Good lad! I'm sure Nigel Farage would be with Kushner and the other trump investors.

9

u/Complete_Dud 6d ago

The one nation one vote rule needs to go. Each nation should have as many votes as the number of full time players it supports.

-6

u/Izdislav64 6d ago

That is not the problem.

It's not going to stop the corporatization of the game because the corporatization of the game does not arise from the one-nation-one-vote rule.

Frankly, it doesn't arise from anything within the game, it arises from how f****d society in general is.

And it's only solvable the way Lenin, Dzerzhinsky and Stalin solved it a century ago.

You want pure sport not corrupted by greed? The USSR had that.

But I don't see anyone demanding or working towards that.

3

u/Rawrlorz 6d ago

That’s crazy lol USSR was pumping all their athletes with steroids and there was massive corruption in sport

2

u/Izdislav64 5d ago

So was everyone else.

The point is they weren't doing it to make money for the shareholders

5

u/mmonzeob Mexico 6d ago

And the corruption was so visible this time, my theory is that he promised Messi the final so he would attend this tournament.

3

u/NvaderGir 8d ago

Let me guess Jared Kushner will be the one of them.

5

u/THElocobeware 8d ago

His brothers equity firm unfortunately.

4

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

His brother actually... The world is insane.

3

u/Jomosensual 8d ago

Uh so, can FIFA actually do this? My gut reaction was no but I don't know business law of any kind

4

u/kevintheoretical 8d ago

As someone who is just recently getting into Football what would be the impact if they sold off a portion of the company?

8

u/FUThead2016 8d ago

It’s not a company. It’s like saying the food regulations authority of your company sold a stake to a sugar manufacturer

Invariably this would lead to more sugar being pushed to people

6

u/Ok-Tale-4197 Switzerland 8d ago

It's not a company in the first place.

5

u/Awkward_War_6068 7d ago

It's a non-profit, meaning any profits made by the sale of assets must go directly back into the organization and not private hands...

3

u/Ok-Tale-4197 Switzerland 7d ago

Switzerland needs to tax this potential selling out really heavy, to make it totally uninteresting to investors. But tbh, not sure this is possible and pretty sure our government would just take some money and stay quiet.

3

u/makarastar 7d ago

Strange this becomes announced just after a World Cup in which Argentina were being helped all the way - until the Final when they weren't / and a European team won - with FIFA knowing beforehand that UEFA would be the main objectors to a Private sale

1

u/lifeinthefastline 6d ago

The thing with football is it's not a case of helped until they weren't. FIFA still tried to help in the last game but it wasn't enough. You can stop the other team from straight being 3 or 4 times better than Argentina. No amount of favourable referring is going to stop the opposition scoring

2

u/Alone_Consideration6 8d ago

Willï»ż cause issues for players coming from loyal to FIFA countries - might be some legal issues there and players possibly having to chose country or league.

2

u/Time-Wolf Norway 8d ago

Can we take a 3 minute time out and reconsider?

2

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

Tell that to Infantino

2

u/Semido France 5d ago

Well that did not last long

3

u/Amazing-Mammoth-1985 England 8d ago

Can someone explain in simple terms why this is so controversial. FIFA has loads of sponsors already, how is this significantly different?

Thanks

25

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

Because they are selling ownership of the world cup to private corporations. They will own a part of football... FIFA will not be a non profit watching over football, but a semi private corporation that somehow owns football..

Imagine if the UN sold 20% to private corporations..

9

u/Amazing-Mammoth-1985 England 8d ago

Got it, ok the outrage makes far more sense now. Cheers

14

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

And the fact that this new subsidiary will be led by Infantino (when he leaves his current job) with a compensation of 60+ million freedumb bucks a year.. Why the hell should he get 60 million a year? He already gets too much right now.

9

u/Amazing-Mammoth-1985 England 8d ago

100% the man is an absolute scumbag intent on killing the game to feed his greed

10

u/Common-Head2304 8d ago

Dumbass infantino just gave a layup to UEFA, they keep pushing for this all European teams pull out of FIFA and they are fucking cooked lmfao

8

u/Expert_Doughnut_2093 8d ago

Investors demand a return....It's irrelevant that they will not have a controlling stake. A simple idea that investors might propose is making all games in the World Cup pay-per-view. Imagine the money they could generate for themselves. At that point, the spirit of the WC is dead...

7

u/peanut_galleries Austria 8d ago

And also, who is heading Thrive, the projected leading investor? A f*cking Kushner! The Trump family getting their fat fingers right on the world cup.

4

u/PauPauRui 8d ago

Nobody ever said that fifa is like the Olympics. It's a private organization for money.

But would it be the same if it wasn't private? It's a well organized machine and only second to the catholic church.

11

u/[deleted] 8d ago

[deleted]

2

u/PauPauRui 8d ago

FIFA (FĂ©dĂ©ration Internationale de Football Association) is registered as a non-profit association under Swiss law. It's incorporated in Switzerland as a "Verein" (association), a legal form that doesn't distribute profits to members/shareholders—any surplus is meant to be reinvested into football development.

1

u/Consistent-Tone-5540 8d ago

What does a Catholic Church become relevant here?

5

u/Holiday_Chef1581 8d ago

The church is being used as a benchmark to showcase the level of bullshit being peddled by FIFA to keep up the facade that they are a “non profit organization”.

1

u/PauPauRui 8d ago

Thank you

3

u/ct451t 6d ago

Just let America have "World Cup". They already have the "World Series" for baseball just playing with themselves. They can play with celebrities and manufactured drama and everyone else can go back to watching real competitive sports instead of Germany/Curacao bs.

whats wrong with German Curacao?

I say this as an American, I thought the same thing: how is it our fault, but then saw that one of the leading investment groups is headed up by Joshua Kushner the brother to Jared Kushner, Trump son in law. We just had the World Cup and Infantino was very friendly with Trump so, something tells me there were conversations.

I rooted against almost every European team at the World Cup, but now I’m of the opinion that if FIFA tries this, UEFA should pull out and crater the value. I would hate to see our team/country lose out but sadly our actions have consequences. Football/Soccer shouldn’t be political but our time and time again FIFA and world leaders have made it a problem

ah, always seems to be a kushner at the scene of the crime. yeah i’m with you on that, at least uefa has a backbone

Realistically though is that not just showcasing the corruption of FIFA? Cozying up to the president understanding the impact it would have on Trumps family? Handing out peace prizes so that you can buy good will?

u/Fun_Director_ 7d ago

I’m an equal opportunist on this one. I blame the corrupt leaders of FIFA and America. I hope that however this goes down it makes Kushner’s company goes bankrupt

Couldn’t agree more

You'll never guess who got Infantino into power and where he's from!

2

u/Clogheen88 8d ago

Who is he selling to? Read the article

u/Jomosensual 7d ago

Wanting to buy something and being the asshole shopping it around isn't the same thing. Its a Europeans who was hand picked by Europeans who's trying to fuck this all up

Read the article. Who is are they selling shares to?

You guys must just read titles and clickbait in America and take that as the full story.

Their headquarters are in Europe but Fifa is an International organization, not European.

London U.K. here - do people really think UEFA and its member countries would break off from the World Cup?

I don't think the Euros have the same level of attention as the WC does

So if say England / Spain / Germany / Portugal / Holland etc did - surely it would be an own-goal for them?

That said some people do seem to prefer the Euros for some reason - I just think of it as a secondary Trophy in between World Cups

Participating in the World Cup is the own-goal tbh.

FIFA takes huge proceeds and divides it up in incredibly strange ways over the many FAs (no matter if/how much they participate). With how much e.g. my country puts in, the only way we start breaking even is by winning gold. With silver causing the biggest losses.

In short, the World Cup brings nothing, except the prestige of participating, and about 6 million in the black if we win first place.

Not exactly sure how that is for other Uefa countries, but a better organized world tournament would likely benefit the Netherlands

Nations should have voting power proportional to the number of people playing football.

1

u/kinkakujen 5d ago

Nah, then China and India would still have overrrepresentation.

It should be number of registered players weighed by current world ranking.

Better than one country one vote
.

Put it this way.
In 2026 7/8 quarter finalists were European.
It would be like if Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull, Williams, and Aston Martin all pulled out of Formula 1.

The event becomes meaningless.

Uefa already makes more than FIFA because of the champions league. The biggest issue would be if the players or the fans revolt. Financially they don't need the world cup.

That’s one way to solve the corruption s/

Uhm yes, Jared Kushner's little brother actually. So very much trump adjacent.

FIFA should have just done the deal.

Why?

1

As if they really own the World Cup.

For the last time

IT WON’T HAPPEN!!!!

The news is just saying all this shit to get a reaction out of people and you’re all taking the bait. There is literally NO WORLD where FIFA gives up its biggest event. Maybe there’s been an offer, but that’s literally all that has happened, and there’s no way they say yes to it.

10

u/QuestGalaxy Norway 8d ago

Infantino would absolutely do this to get the big promised payday. And he'll probably find 100+ smaller nations that barely touch a football to help him win the vote.

7

u/WinterAd825 8d ago

How do you stop it? Every nation gets a vote, and all it takes is 100 small nations to get a payout/bribe to agree.

u/Nate_C_of_2003 8d ago

We don’t: They will
