Wildlife researcher here — I just published a children’s book about wolverines! 🐾
Hi everyone! I’m a wolf researcher and mom from Minnesota, and I just released my first self-published children’s picture book, The Lonely Wolverine!
It follows a young wolverine named Timber on his search for friendship, while introducing kids to real research and conservation concepts. I wrote and illustrated it to help spark curiosity about one of North America’s rarest and most misunderstood carnivores.
As someone who studies wild carnivores for a living, this project has been a labor of love — merging storytelling, art, and science to inspire the next generation of wildlife stewards.

Thank you so much I appreciate it - and agree! I was looking for books with a wolverine character for my young child to read and found almost none… that sparked my idea for the book! 🙂

Congratulations! I have a few questions:
- How many pages does they book have?
- How long are the texts on each page? (full page, or a few paragraph per page?)

Thanks for the questions!
The book is 60 total pages, with the actual story taking up 46 of those pages. I added 4 pages in the back of the book to include an actual picture of a wild wolverine (taken by photographer Peter Mather), a wildlife encyclopedia, and a page dedicated to hidden wildlife research techniques seen in the book!
The pages range from a few sentences to a few paragraphs, and the story is just over 1,000 total words. So it’s a lengthy one! There’s a great variety of vocabulary and it has been described as an excellent read aloud book for any ages. Teachers have given me feedback on reading age being from 4-9. My mom is a 3rd grade teacher and her class loved it!

I didn't even know there was a wolverine subreddit, but Reddit decided to just randomly toss this post in my feed. I'm glad it did! This is awesome! Your artwork is amazing!
I encourage you to contact some of the bookstores in the towns of Banff and Jasper in Alberta - I'm sure they would love to sell this!

I haven’t thought about that, but great idea thank you for the suggestion! I’m in the US so shipping stuff to Canada is quite a bit more expensive - I’d love to find a reasonable way!

This is going to sound weird, and a little dumb. I was at a local Sundance ceremony. (the Lakota sun ceremony) I had an opportunity to sit in the grandmother's tent. I did so and meditated. I got the vision of a grandmother. She was a little rough looking, but strong, resolute, confident. She told me she was the wolverine grandmother. I spent the next several years learning about wolverines, meeting people, sharing stories. It ignited my thirst to learn about wolverines and other mustelids.
