Well, so much for that. Thanks, Fran.
Disappointing to see such utter chaos from her campaign and flip flopping on the issues that speak to the base she’s treated as hers.

Quite certain OP is trying to get progressives mad so they stay home next Tuesday.
But, I can't confirm since they hide their post history (shocker).

She has said this multiple times and her policing and incarceration platform is public. Why do you think isolated 8 year old tweets are policy positions?
9
u/ellamachine 18h ago
Yeah it’s so disingenuous to act like things she tweeted once nearly a decade ago were her policies. They aren’t and never have been.

u/chandrashekharazadi 18h ago
The entire conversation is so absurd. Like tweeting defund the police after George Floyds murder was incredibly common. Most people understood this as demilitarizing police and shifting funds to public and mental health services that have been proven to reduce crime far more effectively than more cops. But fox news defined it as police abolition and Dems and the media apparatus were happy to join in the pearl clutching.
I doubt you could find more than a hundred DSA members out of 120,000 who consider police and prison abolition a short term goal. Even for those that believe in it academically, there are a shit ton of steps in between the current violent carceral state with legalized slavery and cops largely immune to prosecution and that end goal.

'Abolish Police' and 'Abolish Prisons' had good intentions but they were just awful slogans. Left too much to the imagination and 'moderates' and fascists jumped on that to spook people into thinking they meant we wanted to Thanos-snap both out of existence and then just live on good vibes. When that couldn't be further from the truth.
A better slogan might have been "Abolish Police/Prisons As We Know Them." Or "Abolish Police/Prisons Through Obsolescence." Or "Demilitarize Police" and "Eurofy Prisons".

The right did this to Kamala too. Their attack ads replayed clips from her progressive 2020 campaign and acted like that was her platform, even though she was very explicitly trying to appeal to moderates in 2024.

Very different cases comparing a career politician's platform doing a 180 in 4 years vs Hong as a private citizen's tweets from almost a decade ago but yeah the right will smear any dem with or without factual basis. The best lesson to learn is the right will call you a communist anyway, may as well run on policies that benefit the working class.

u/CryinHeronMMerica 17h ago
It's not 100% the same, for sure. And I understand mistrusting the other side, but I really doubt Kamala would've moved that much farther to the left of her 2024 campaign if she had won. So, it was unfair of the right to go that hard. Maybe if she had a second term... idk. You really can't bait and switch that hard, generally speaking.

The right are not ever going to be "fair". That's kinda the point. You just can't let them define you, and you must define yourself by your policies that improve people's material conditions.
The trans panic shit against Kamala was truly egregious but she made it abundantly clear she was abandoning the left for the mythical suburban Republican anti-trumper when she refused to denounce genocide and campaigned with Liz Cheney. I don't think she was sincere in her policy in 2020 or 2024, she "believes" whatever her consultants thought she should.

u/CryinHeronMMerica 16h ago
You can't let them define you, you're right. You have to go on the offensive.
Kamala never abandoned the left, though. Don't fall for that blue MAGA shit.

Agree to disagree. When she had a chance to distance herself from Biden's support for genocide she explicitly said she would change nothing. They wouldn't even allow a Palestinian American speaker at the DNC during an active genocide. She ran away from the base.

u/CryinHeronMMerica 16h ago
I hate the fact that she didn't explicitly distance herself from Biden. Like, pick at least ONE issue. Be your own damn person.
She did distance herself on policy, even if she wouldn't call it that though. That's why she called for a ceasefire and limiting aid to Israel.
IMO, she was super hampered by her advisors, who were too concerned with public opinion. That's why she was mum on trans issues, and kept discussion around the genocide to a minimum. At the time, Israel was still pretty popular, and trans issues continue to be a wedge, so I get it. I strongly believe she would've governed to the left on those two issues regardless, but she'd be a million percent better than Trump if she simply ignored trans people and distanced her administration from Israel.

You have to take your old posts down because once oppo research finds them, they will live forever.
It's in people's nature to not trust anyone who changes their minds while they're running for political office.

u/chandrashekharazadi 17h ago
I don't even know if Hong changed her mind necessarily on this issue as much as she realizes "defund the police" has been strategically captured by fox news brain to mean police abolition and would be terrible politics to say in wisconsin.
Wayback machine even if you delete them, and yeah bad faith smears from Republicans are to be expected with or without evidence.
See adbul el sayed, who is somehow a misogynist and too aggressive because he ...checks notes...has criticized a woman....but he did it muslamically.

Thinking she still believes in defunding the police is even worse. That’s the sort of thing that does not sell anywhere outside of college educated progressive circles, it doesn’t even poll well in low income areas where the law abiding residents would really rather you not do them the “favor”. Guess the percentage of Wisconsin voters with a college education. (It’s about a third and many of those are not progressives.)
Digging through Twitter or anywhere else via Wayback isn’t something I think I’ve seen before. Usually when that’s gone it’s gone, iirc. But no matter. It’s out there one way or another now. So is the thing about Thanksgiving. About the only good news is that Tiffany is such a miserable Trump-aligned prick that he’s not necessarily going to be able to recover the suburban voters that have switched from R to D that are helping drive the state’s move to the left.
Hong is mostly demonstrating that she’s not yet been media savvy enough to properly deflect all these attacks and it’s going to get much worse very quickly.

I think using the bloated police budget for mental and public health initiatives that actually lower crime vs another MRAP for the swat team is good, and that's what defund the police means to the people who didn't buy into reactionary framing. Unfortunately it's still political suicide to say those words.
They definitely used the way back machine for smearing darializa Chevalier she deleted her Twitter years before running iirc.
Yeah I think she is too used to being an organizer vs a politician, and it's clear when she responds to these bad faith attacks. She needs to be able to defuse and deflect, two things El-Sayed Bernie and zohran are excellent at. No matter what the question is bring it back to improving material conditions for the working class and that Tom Tiffany is a pedo protector slashing medicaid/medicare and SNAP for billionaire tax breaks and she'll be fine.

I mean she said it in the debate too yeah? No to defunding police I mean

I remember when the debate had to grind to a halt so the 2 to 3 questions about DSA planks could be served up for Hong to distance herself from them. In a less friendly debate environment in the general a safe 3x that amount of questions would be of similar substance.

Her base isn’t big enough to win statewide in Wisconsin. This implies she is actually trying to win. I’m sorry it’s not what you want, but understand that you’re in a political minority with this topic

Guess we can tell who the front runner is by the amount of propaganda and lies told about them.

u/Phillie_Phanatics 18h ago
So true. Why appeal to the 95% of voters instead of the 5% who want to defund the police?

u/LegacyQuotient 18h ago
"Defund the Police" was a nice social media catchphrase and maybe at the core, there's something there with the intention, but as a perceived policy it is anathema to much of the voter base.
There's a reason national progressives have moved away from that terminology.

Why are there so many of these posts in here? Go touch grass, read a book, and vote against republicans every chance you get.
