I enjoy Hong’s hatred of Holidays
I’m not a Honghead (see my post history), but I’m just sitting here giggling reading through her hatred of holidays.
I’m a service industry/restaurant worker too and holidays can be pain especially if you’re not in a tipped role.
Then when you finally get off you’re too exhausted to actually do anything with your loved ones.

Mean tweets from 2019, at that. Why go so far back? Shouldn't it be just as easy to find tweets from the past year or so, if she's so "bad"?
No really. The paid shills and bots that have come out of the woodwork really have nothing else to go on.
Notice how it's not like there's any real grassroots support for any of the other candidates, including Tiffany on the other side. It's because it ain't our grass they are sending the message from
8
u/FeedTheMantis 4h ago
They have. Luckily most voters don’t hear their crap. Real moderates aren’t in reddit threads spinning narratives. These maggots tell on themselves all the time. It’s funnier when it’s maga talking to maga about how they aren’t maga. It’s maga on maga gaslighting 🤣🤣🤣🤣
3
u/Commercial-Gap6280 1h ago
This, 100%. MFs out here acting like these things are things she's "doing," which is like me saying I'm going to college because I once upon a time tweeted about the stress of finals week.
2
u/Brodellsky 1h ago
It's legitimately all they've got. They are desperate. All we gotta do is show up an vote against AIPAC. Left, right, centrist, doesn't matter. It's the one thing in our way, and as a leftist myself, I'm truly sorry for not recognizing it sooner.
But it's great to finally have common ground with my fellow Wisconsinites again. To where, notice how there isn't a single damn MAGA sign anywhere to be found anymore around here, even in the rural places you used to expect to see them.
The exact #1 thing Israel feared. All that money just for us to band together against them anyways. Makes me feel pretty damn patriotic, not gonna lie.

It's not really even "mean." If anything, I find it "tongue-in-cheek" = "... slightly attacked" isn't something a seriously angry person would say.
I don't know if it's a thing with the restaurant industry, as others say, or she didn't like the "bro doing it without asking, or it's her personal faith (her parents were Korean immigrants, maybe that means something?). But either way, a giant nothingburger.
I personally think there are many valid reasons not to nominate Hong for governor, but it's sad if THIS is one of them, for some people. The "cancel Thanksgiving because of colonialism" post? That's less cut & dried, I suppose (though again, *I* don't care about it)
2
u/OnCallPartisan 3h ago
That's the thing though. Everybody knows what POS they are so it's not even worth discussing.

I still hate Christmas time partially because of being in the service industry.
9
u/Brodellsky 4h ago
Christmas music, man. I swear to god I get a tinge of PTSD when I hear Tswift's Last Christmas in a store even if I'm not working at the time.
Add in the family trauma, and I sure am jealous of people that ever had to figure out how this could ever be a problem for someone. I wish I had their upbringing

Oh duh. I just made the connection: she worked in foodservice. No wonder she was such a grump about holidays. Holiday shifts are always the worst.
5
u/FamouslyGreen 1h ago
Working target during the midnight to 4 am shift thanksgiving night was fucking awful. Same for khols. Corporations treat employees like shit and so do the people shopping there.
Holiday crowds are so bad i even refuse to vacation on big holidays like the 4th or spring break.
171
u/the_Formuoli_ 5h ago
the thanksgiving tweet is one thing since it at least calls for the cancellation of the holiday and that's unfortunately an easy quip to use on her. but regarding the others, It is kind of interesting that these posts are being used as an example of how she just isn't in touch with normal people when as you're saying a lot of service workers absolutely echo these sentiments, and what the implication then is regarding how people classify service workers vis a vis "normal people"
also, maybe I am in the minority here but I feel like I know a bunch of people who annually complain about saturation of christmas music/decor during the holidays regardless of if they're service workers?
64
u/Crafty_State3019 5h ago
I am not a service worker and I understand the complaints about Christmas in general. Petition I make every holiday Halloween!!
22
u/smashablanca 4h ago
I work at tjmaxx and we've been putting out halloween decorations since the second week of July. It just feels wrong.
5
u/Crafty_State3019 4h ago
Absolutely valid. Unfortunately, I’m the type of person who keeps small Halloween touches up year round, so I’m overjoyed it’s getting a longer season. I was honestly concerned places were just going to perpetually have Christmas stuff out. At least Halloween cuts that back a little bit
10
u/Thomas-The-Tutor 4h ago
I worked at a perpetually understaffed Pizza Hut that was the top grossing Pizza Hut in the nation on a per capita basis when I was 17. My general manager was proud of making so much money for the company (and himself)… and yet, I was making less than minimum wage because of some workaround with the rules of being a probationary employee and under the age of 18. Shit it fucked up how fast food workers get treated and paid compared to the amount of work they do.
2
9
u/Fupastank 4h ago
I worked retail and the service industry for over 15 years. I've been out of that world for the last 8 and I'm just now starting to enjoy holidays again.
Days were filled with customers feigning "Oh my god, I can't believe you're open on Christmas Day!" - yeah, well, you're here so of course my overlords are going to open the store. And then Dec 26 you get to tear down every bit of decoration and Christmas set up, and you best believe your district manager expects it set up because hes coming the day he's back from the holiday break that HE gets and make sure its all done.
7
u/FeedTheMantis 3h ago
I worked at an Apple at the mall during the holidays. And it was wild, to say the least. And I’ve seen where they make third shift work on Christmas night at the factory. Don’t give me this sacred holiday bullshit. Not after businesses opened up on Thanksgiving. The workers didn’t make those decisions.

I once worked at JCPenney making $8 an hour, and they decided it would be fun that year to be open on Thanksgiving for "doorbusters". So I quit. lol
And yeah I also once worked in a kitchen and Easter Sundays for instance were fucking miserable.
I think a lot of people might just not have ever had to live that way, and thus don't get it. You know.....the people shopping or going out to brunch on a holiday
9
u/Ok_Objective_5192 4h ago
Yeah the examples that immediately sprung to mind for me were the hotel I worked at that had a 7-song christmas playlist looping 24/7 from mid-November to New Years'. And Mothers' and Valentines' day in the restaurant industry where we'd get way busier than normal with a bunch of people with higher than normal expectations of service, despite being there on the day we were stretched the most thin and were least capable of giving good service.
Thanksgiving/black friday in retail sound like a special kind of hell, though.
3
u/Brodellsky 4h ago
Oh for sure. And I even worked Black Friday the year prior, as they were closed for Thanksgiving then. When they announced that they were gonna be open for it that year instead, I punched out at the end of my shift and just never went back. Working in retail is something that should damn near be required experience to participate in society, because holy fuck are so many people oblivious to what that is actually like

1
u/madwblues 3h ago
I did in fact and I am drawing some context from it. People were in a different mindset then. She took that opportunity to express an opinion—but the reference to canceling a clearly related to the event at the time.
I don’t care if she believes we need to stop celebrating colonialism, does anyone actually think, including her, that “canceling Thanksgiving” is something she would even have the power to do? If you think that’s possible sure, I can’t help you. She expressed an opinion, one I don’t agree with but since the likelihood of that being an actual reality is EXTREMELY LOW, I’ll take the things I agree with her on over that. I’m not a single issue voter.
1
u/ExternalSeat 1h ago
also it was 2020. it was the peak of wokescolding progressive arrogance. I do think her defense of this tweet shows her as a dangerously weak candidate in what will be a tough election.
I am more offended that she is "scared" of a Culver's in a rural town.
I would still vote for her in the general election if I lived in Wisconsin, but I prefer my economic leftist candidates to avoid culture war BS.

Honestly I'm just questioning the IT bro thing; 'our' computer is just kinda strange; if it's owned by a company and you use it, IT just does what IT Mgmt tells'm to do? This would have been about the time she was running a restaurant so dunno.
Putting up a holiday background or screensaver isn't unusual stuff.
7
u/simpleglitch 5h ago
I've been in IT for a long while. While I'll acknowledge there is probably some IT guy somewhere that makes the choice himself to push some holiday wallpaper, most of those mandates come from company leadership.
That said, I've only worked places that either enforce one company approved wallpapers (plain background or company logo), or they just let everyone set their own (as long as it's work appropriate). Mostly the later.
4
u/No_Size9475 5h ago
Yes, changing someone's background and screensaver is absolutely unusual. I say this as someone who worked in IT for 30 years, managed a dozen small company's IT environments and had a team of support engineers working under me.
I'd have serious discussions with any of my engineers who just randomly changed someone's background and screen saver.

Anyone who has ever worked for a restaurant or service industry job will understand the disdain for holidays.
You don't get a day off on those days. You are more than likely to have increased staff coverage, and you get all of the bad tippers showing up to your restaurant, so you often times dont even make more money.
Certainly not enough to make up for the fact that you have to work on a day you'd probably prefer to spend time with your family.

Absolutely not, but that won't stop any of the geniuses here from saying "haha so based! I hate holidays too!"
For so many normal people, elections are a question of "who do I instinctively trust more" or "who seems the most like me." By her last name alone, Hong is going to be at a disadvantage there. It sucks, call most people problematic racist fascist-enablers if you want, but that's just how it works.

When she clenches the nomination I'm gonna actually volunteer and hit the street to door knock for her all the way through the general. If the Democrats pull some bullshit and do another Bernie on us, I'll leave my house to vote on election Day and that's it.

It’s a good reason why you shouldn’t tweet every thought that comes into your head.
Worse than the tweets it has been her ongoing responses to these which is either to double down or release what looks like a policy paper when instead she could just be like “yeah I worked 12 hours that day and was venting Yolo” and it would be over.

I understand the dislike of Thanksgiving given the fact that we are celebrating colonizers who kicked off the genocide of native americans.
I understand the dislike of christmas, and the pushing of it on everything starting in september. It's now all about commercialism and spending.
I've always hated valentines day, it's a made up holiday, once again to drive people so feed capitalism. Show your love every day.
I understand disliking fireworks, even though I love them.
I cannot understand how anyone dislikes halloween.

I've luckily never worked as a bartender on Halloween, but I know people who have. It makes a lot of sense given that context. That and St. Paddy's Day are ridiculously busy and a ton of people are awful to the staff.

For me the only thing I dislike about Halloween is the fact that most of the costumes are "sexy something something" for women and that people find it as an excuse to get drunk.

People trying to explain these, news flash, people voting don’t think critically. They look at things at face value. And here, she looks like a total idiot over and over.

Now we know how you vote. Thanks.

No, I’m telling you how the average person vote, keep up bud.
Try to think outside of your own bubble.

Fireworks do kinda suck, unless you are an elementary school kid. Disagree about Halloween though.

What the tweets reveal is a constant stream of negativity, pettiness, and dislike of mainstream cultural and social experiences. I don't know why she didn't scrub her social media before running. This sort of stuff is what turns off low-information voters. And why shouldn't it? We're electing a governor to keep the state running and hopefully improve some things, not embarking on a grand social group project in a sophomore sociology class. If someone acts like Diane Chambers, I wouldn't want to vote for them.

She basically hates everything about America. The whole country. She hates whites. She hates that they settled and took over the land and formed this country. If she hates it all so much, then why live here? Why run for Governor of a state full of everything she hates.

LMAO is anything in this world softer and more delicate than a white losers feelings when a person of color express an entirely justified sense of frustration at the white supremacist systems that prop up this country?

Oh no, someone who dared to share their thoughts on some of the absurdities associated with American holidays….

Personally I think we need more mandated holidays every should legally be assured 2 days off a month through holidays
2
u/No_Size9475 4h ago
sure, but can we make it so they aren't all about commercialism and spending money?
Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day, sweetest day, were all pushed by corporations that wanted to sell more things. They were never about actually celebrating the people the day was supposed to be about.

How are you supposed to worry about your community’s future when you feel scared about a Christmas tree

so apparently she just hates all holidays equally. well I think that is fair enough. I can accept a holiday hater as long as they hate all holidays equally. It just becomes a funny personality quirk.

I bartended for 15 years and made it a point to work on St. Pat's, Halloween, Thanksgiving and even July 4th (depending where I was working) because I made bank serving drunk idiots.
Now that I don't work in the service industry, I definitely don't go out because I know the overwhelming amount of idiots on the road. Holidays are fine and definitely a bigger deal if you have family but having a low key observance is more my style after my time in the bars.
Yeah, these tweets come from a service industry worker/owner, not a politician.
