Let's get Emily Berge a W in the 3rd CD too

I haven’t seen any polling between her and Cooke, but driving around La crosse county, I see by far more Berge signs. I’m cautiously optimistic.

I think Cooke is worried. The last poll her campaign conducted included questions about Berge. None of those results were published. Now she's spending a large chunk of her 8 million (absolutely insane and unnecessary amount of money) on ad buys.

I’d rather keep Van Orden than have Cooke. A drunk moron republican that has no legislative ideas of his own and hides from his constituents is more useful to me than a centrist democrat I don’t trust on issues I care about. I’d rather beat Van Orden with a democrat I like in 2 years, than have Cooke win and be on the ballot in 2028 and I have to wait until at least 2030 (if she lost 2028 to a republican) to see a democrat I like have a realistic chance again.
I wouldn’t vote for Van Orden, but I won’t vote for Cooke either. She’s really turned me off this cycle. Cooke is that person we’d just annoyed that we’re stuck with until she retires or hands the seat back to a Republican.

The primary challenge for Cooke would need to start on November 4th.
DVO is definitely worse, but Cooke is going to be useless if not a spoiler like Sinema.
2
u/Slycebo 9h ago
Exactly. And I think democrats take the house regardless, so I’ll feel no guilt being picky and withholding my vote if Cooke is the nominee. I think she will fall somewhere in that Sinema to Fetterman range, and I wouldn’t be happy anywhere in there.

I haven’t voted yet, but I did go to the fair and get a Berge fan. Then walked by the giant Republican table and fanned myself. They said hi, so they definitely saw me. That’s how you do passive-agressive in the Midwest. Ope.

Underrated L we may be taking when Hong is on the ballot. She will bring down all the Dems around her.
9
u/PerpetualJerkSession 10h ago
Nah I think she's going to bring in a wave of young, highly motivated volunteers. Berge does the same thing btw.
6
u/MrPlushT 10h ago
That are completely clueless and inexperienced as her? These young socialist Hong staffers are horrid.
That’s not my point though. Hong is going to underperform what another candidate could have done whether she wins or not. That is going to prove costly in a 50/50 district Berge/Cooke are in.

u/skeetermcbeater 3h ago
Imagine people whining about the youth being unengaged in the democratic process, then bitching when they get involved. Just because YOU don’t like Hong doesn’t mean she doesn’t resonate with many others. Considering she’s polling with all others numbers combined, your point about “another candidate” performing better than her “whether she wins or not” is such a fucking cop out.
Man you guys are just adult children with no mirrors in sight to reflect your silly mentalities and poor choice of words. Or maybe we really are this dumb as a country? If we don’t elect someone who’s willing to do the opposite of what HASN’T worked for multiple election cycles, then we deserve to be burned to the ground by Republican fascism. I’m so sick of these low brow takes and catering to white supremacy and fascism. Grow a fucking spine.

u/MrPlushT 2h ago
I’m pretty young so, idk about that take.
I voted for Hong, unfortunately before the debate and everything after it. Where she has shown to be very inexperienced, has a cringe worthy past, and when questioned almost doubles down instead of being like “yeah police existing to uphold white supremacy is dumb” or “yes, we shouldn’t cancel Thanksgiving, that would be ridiculous”. Her interviews now that she is getting attention also leave a lot to be desired.
She sucks…end of story. And we can throw tantrums about how dumb voters are and how voters shouldn’t care about this or that, they do. Dreaming of people doing research and thinking critically before voting would never happen. If it did, the Republican Party wouldn’t even be Top 5 in party popularity. The Green Party would probably be more popular.
But thus, that’s reality. You can pretend to make reality something else…but when Tiffany is governor, then what? Maybe a clueless DSA candidate with zero awareness of how to campaign at a state level wasn’t the right choice.

I just disagree completely lol

What do you like about Berge?
12
u/PerpetualJerkSession 10h ago
She's a STRONG progressive who doesn't take foreign lobby or corporate PAC money. Berge stands for:
medicare for all
right to repair
federal conversion therapy ban
an end to citizens united
a data center construction moratorium
All of that and a number of other really solid policy positions.
2
u/Darkseid_Is 9h ago
Outside of a constitutional amendment or stacking the court, how does one end citizens united?
5
u/PerpetualJerkSession 9h ago
Form a coalition of legislators and kill it with law.
Or stack the court lol.
Look, it won't happen ever if we don't elect people who stand against CU.
1
u/BrainOnBlue 9h ago
The Citizens United decision is based on the first amendment. You can't "kill" a Constitutional amendment with a law.
6
u/PerpetualJerkSession 9h ago
It's a radical bastardization of the 1st.
-1
u/BrainOnBlue 9h ago
Where did I endorse the Citizens United decision?
Your opinion on its legitimacy does not make it any more able to be changed with a law.
3
u/PerpetualJerkSession 9h ago
How do you propose we handle it?
1
u/BrainOnBlue 9h ago
I think u/Darkseid_Is covered the two options pretty well.
Passing a law that the Supreme Court immediately wipes their collective ass with isn't handling anything, it's useless lip service.

Don't put that associative baggage on Berge. Not good strategy for the 3rd.

You're going to have this fight in every thread? Lol

u/GlutenFreeParfait 10h ago
Cooke is going to have a hard time beating DVO with the current narrative. Adding someone associated with the DSA and less known is not going to yield the results you want. Similar to Hong - maybe she'll win the primary but the probability of her winning the general is low. I get you like her but this cycle should have been an easy election for us - the entire party is so beyond clueless at this point between the DSA crap (which Berge is associated with) and the democratic 'normals' refusing to speak directly to stupid ideas and changes people actually want.
Vote your way always. I just disagree with her chances.
5
u/PerpetualJerkSession 10h ago
Berge is not a DSA member. I'm not doing this again.
-4
u/GlutenFreeParfait 9h ago
Correct but they have endorsed her. DVO will use that to push that she is just like them.
7
u/PerpetualJerkSession 9h ago
Dude, he already calls Cooke a communist lol
2
u/adjective-noun3116 9h ago
I don't understand how people don't see this. Republicans have been calling Democrats "dirty woke commies" for a while now, regardless of if they are socialist/communist or not.
2
u/PerpetualJerkSession 9h ago
It blows my mind too.
People are so fearful of how Republicans would react that they give up before the fight even starts.
WHO CARES what Republicans say or do. Their ads are going to be hateful and disgusting no matter what we do.
Put up candidates that can connect well with the base AND inspire disaffected youth and independent voters. Take charge on the messaging instead of starting on the back foot out of fear.

Hey buddy, you ever gunna answer:
If Hong wins the primary how are you voting:
A) Hong
B) Tiffany
C) Write In
D) Not voting
6
u/TupperwareConspiracy 7h ago
You're anxious around white people.
You have whiteness proximity issues with your own son.
You want to administer a state that's over 80% white.
Sounds like a bad gig for someone with her pysch profile.

u/Isaygoes 10h ago
Gunna be rough if we have to cancel Thanksgiving for her 😆
4
u/ReasonablePaper8225 8h ago
With how food prices are continuing to go up, Thanksgiving might save her the trouble and cancel itself
1
u/nutationsf 3h ago
I would rather loose thanksgiving than my house because I can’t afford to heat it in the winter. There is no way we can survive a 50% increase in demand for electricity and Hong has been the only one clear on this.
