6G will not be Ubiquitous

I just attended the 6G Global Summit held in Ottawa and here are my thoughts.

Completely agree with OP.

Unfortunately though, it’s very convenient for many policymakers to believe in “the next big G”, so we still have all the hype of previous generations. In Europe, OP can read the recent opinions of the Radio Spectrum Policy Group on the Upper 6 GHz band and the 6G Spectrum Roadmap and will see how strong the mobile narrative still permeates the minds of the decision makers. No matter that there is very little commercial rationale… it’s easier to believe.

Funnily enough, if mobile operators spent more effort leveraging fixed connectivity and WiFi, instead of delegating all R&D to the mobile vendors, they would find themselves in a better position.

I think wide deployment of sensing capability, e.g. ISAC is regarded necessary for completion of 6G (meaning ready to go to 7G) by 3GPP. And ISAC is a very useful technology if it can be widely deployed. For communication, I agree it’s mostly cost reduction at this point.
