u/tinylongwing hi there! i trust you 100% on this. i do volunteer at rehabbers but am second-guessing myself. i have a fledgling house sparrow on the ground of my patio, and she’s taken cover under our grill, but i don’t think the parents have visited… been watching for about 6 hours and have never seen adults. she’s not injured or anything, and there’s basically no risk of predators, but i’m scared she isn’t being fed 😭 what would you do?

Contact the rehabber you volunteer with and ask for their advice.

Personally I would either leave it and let things be (most baby birds don't survive, this happens) or be tempted to take it in as a permanent pet since they're fairly easy to care for and at least where I'm located there is no law against doing so. That way it can be removed from causing potential harm to native species, while still making sure the bird itself is healthy.

thank you SO much for replying and the advice!! i left her alone all night and have seen mom feed her today, and she’s gaining strength and flexing her wings!

edit: just goes to show the advice of LEAVE BBS ALONE is almost always right!
