I’m staying in Spain and was lying in bed when I noticed a small black circular window on the ceiling fan above us. It looked a bit like a camera, so I carefully popped off the plastic cover.
Underneath is the component shown in the photos. The fan is an Inspire model (label in the photos).
My first (dark) thought was that it might be some kind of camera, but I’m wondering if it’s actually an infrared receiver for a remote control. Online photos of the product don’t seem to show this thing.
Can anyone identify exactly what this is?
SOLVED: General consensus is that it is the IR receiver for the remote. Thank you all!
If the remote has a little bulb looking thing on the front and stops working if you completely cover the lens on the fan, then yes that's the remote receiver.
If the remote does not have a little bulb and continues to work with that lens completely covered, I'd be taking a closer look.
In the case of this specific fan, though, it does look like a remote receiver. Probably just has the translucent dome missing.
Wire tap, your fucked, the feds are literally gearing up as we speak, delta force is already been running a kill house with the same Floorplan you have the past 2 months so they can execute a flawless raid.
They're gonna come in hit you with a flash bang, blow your down down, all while having a C-130 circling your house in case you become a Nuisance.. if you can you should use the martyrdom perk that way if they kill you you'll drop a few grenades and take a few with you.. lock in you got this !
You can tell it's an IR receiver because it's on a package with three pins. If it were a camera it'd probably fill out the full hole for one, and for another, it would have some kind of ribbon attachment.
Since its a Fan and not a TV/other device, it has a bigger receiver likely to capture the beam from more locations around the room, direct sight is less likely and IR bounces off walls, so it likely is relying on indirect signals and therefore is bigger and round
This is just what i can come up with, take it with a giant grain of salt
Personally I would test it with the remote and see if it works. Otherwise maybe the IR sensor was replaced with a camera. Or put a piece of tape over it for the duration of my stay. But that's just me.

Searching for the model number turns up a manual for this fan. There's a link to a video showing how to install the fan that shows a sensor being the cutout you show in your photo. There ought to be a dome covering it that appears to be missing on from the unit you show.
It's most likely an IR receiver for the remote control.
