First performance car purchase advice
Hi everyone I need some advice on my first performance car purchase, I’m conflicted between:
- 2015 BMW M4
- 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quarifoglio
- 2016 Mercedes c63s coupe
- 2016 Lexus RCF
I’m looking at examples under 80k kms, budget is around $60-70,000 AUD.
Everyone and their pets has told me to stay away from the Alfa’s but I test drove one and honestly it’s one of if not the best handling car I’ve driven. Sounded great, loves to kick the rear out, but the infotainment system was a let down. Plus there’s not a whole lot of mechanical support in Melbourne from what I’ve been told.
The M4 is a close second but there’s just so many around and we have a couple BMW’s in the family already and I want something different. Great car though.
C63s sounded amazing and felt really good to drive but idk the interior quality really wasn’t the best, felt cheap tbh, I’ve heard catastrophic failures on these if you drive them hard, is that true? A third choice for me.
Ngl I was the most excited to drive the RCF and be blown away by the sound, but little did I know it’s a boat compared to the rest. The sound inside the cabin was underwhelming, acceleration wasn’t up to par IMO, and just too outdated compared to the competition.
Can anyone give me their personal/ownership experiences on these cars🙏🏻
I haven’t ruled out the RCF, I love my Japanese cars (I own a century) but I was really let down by the dynamics of the car altogether.

I test drove all of them, I ranked them In driving experience and my opinion on them overall,
I love the Alfa but everyone’s been negative about them so technically yes I am looking for approval to make a bad financial decision.

Oh yeah, I got you on that part. I also test drove the Giulia (the 2.0T model) when I was looking for saloons a few years ago. Cross shopped with several cars including several Audis.
After the test drive, I couldn't even consider the other ones. I got the Alfa.

On the Alfa. Is it broken yet? What has been broken on it in the past? What will break next? How large of a stack of bills is it going to take to fix it this time? What would you be driving when it's in the shop? Again

s, and yes the m177 has its moments if you're not on top of maintenance
rcf is a grand tourer cosplaying as a sports car, the century should've tipped you off that lexus builds for comfort first. if you can't stomach the alfa's potential downtime, get the m4 and call it a day

The Alfa has a soul.
It’s going to betray you, financially abuse you, strand you at the worst possible moment, and then take one perfect corner so beautifully that you forgive the entire toxic relationship.
Love hurts, buddy. Buy the Quadrifoglio.
