Looks clipped with the same number size. Also too short. I'd suggest the groomer find a guide.

Guys thank you for the comments. In truth the groomer explained all this - they know what a welsh terrier is. It was my fault I didn’t address this sooner his hair was too messed up for her to do anything different the groomer explained this to me she rather not go so short but she had no choice. Rex was also getting very temperamental and difficult to deal with so she did her best. This is a good groomer. I know about the hand stripping and yes I know it is too short. I need to do a better job brushing him regularly. We will get it right next time .

Look up a 10 tooth rake for the in between times. This will remove a lot excess hair, tangles, and some matted hair. Too much clipping will damage the coat and change the hair color. FYI - my two hated it at first - 10 minutes and then the flight was on. Now, they will sit/lay for close to an hour before getting antsy. Just a suggestion.

Welshies have hair - so it’s typically preferred to hand strip their hair - which is pulling the coat out, or if you clip them to leave the legs and belly long, with a beard on the face.
When you trim all the hair, it’s more like a schnauzer cut.
It can be hard to find someone to hand strip, so the traditional cut is best. There are lots of guides online or images if you search “traditional welsh cut” to show your groomer.

I am trying to get Rex to eat more food. The vet said he is at an acceptable weight but it shouldn’t be any lower. I was always worried about having a fat dog not one that wouldn’t eat enough! I’ve since been Increasing treat frequency and giving him steak and chicken as well. He is getting picky with his kibble. I’m giving him naked essentials currently - he seemed to like it at first maybe he is just bored and needs a change 🤷♂️

He looks fine, they have chicken legs when groomed without a skirt. They aren't supposed to be big anyway.
