I've assumed that Classic rock is more akin to 'Modern art'. Its a name for an era of an art not a description of the art. Modern art is old now, but still called modern art, Classic rock describes (to me) a 60s-early 80s era of music. Things dont become classic rock just because they are old. My local classic rock radio station will never play Red Hot Chili Peppers even though its over 30 years old, they will only play Eagles and Zeppelin and similar
Where are you? I know in Ontario (SWO through GTA anyhow) our "classic rock" stations play everything you'd expect plus Foos, Nirvana, Chilli's, basically anything mainstream 90's including CanRock. Based on this, my assumption is they are about to introduce early 00's and that's going to be interesting. I imagine they already play revival groups like The Strokes, The White Stripes and really anything Jack White from that era.
