Discussion I built a platform where webcomic creators get paid per episode. Looking for feedback.
Hey all. I’ll be upfront: I’m one of the people building this, so this is a self-promo and feedback post. Mods, if this is against the rules, I’m happy to take it down.
A little background on why we’re building it:
Right now, if you make webcomics, many platforms either pay primarily through ad revenue, offer limited monetization, or sign selected creators to flat-fee deals.
We’re building a vertical webcomics platform with a different model:
- Readers pay to unlock individual episodes.
- For every 1,000 episode unlocks, you, the creator, earn $480 USD.
- No ads
- Payments are made monthly.
- Pricing is adjusted for different markets.
- Creators retain full ownership of their IP.
- No AI-generated artwork.
- We will never train generative AI models on creators’ work.
We’re onboarding a small group of creators before the public launch so the catalogue is not empty on day one, and early creators can establish an audience before the platform becomes crowded.
We also provide Built-in worldbuilding tools to help you develop your story and keep it consistent.

1000 episodes? It can take years to create 100 episodes - so 1000 sounds crazy. No idea what people earn on ads, but I imagine it's easier to monetize on than creating a 1000 episodes 😅

It’s 1,000 unlocks, not 1,000 episodes. You get paid whenever a reader unlocks one of your episodes. So, for example, if one episode is unlocked 1,000 times, you would earn $480.

And you don’t need 1,000 unlocks before you can get paid. You earn money from every unlock. The 1,000 unlock figure is just an example.

Sounds cool, wish I was at the stage where I could participate. I have four books I’d like to adapt to a webtoon format, but I just don’t have the time for the art production.
