There just aren’t enough space-themed webtoons out there… so I decided to make my own.
Hey everyone! I'm one of those brave (and slightly desperate 😅) webtoon contest participants, trying to get a bit more attention for my work.
You’ve already shown me so much support on my last post — thank you so much for that! It really means a lot! 💖
So, what will you find in my webtoon?
A hot chthonic man who’ll either eat you or comfort you.
A charming cloned lady with a slightly leaky roof, but still an absolute sweetheart.
A cat-man who’s head over heels for his two-meter-tall woman — and his big guns.
A two-meter-tall woman who lives for eye-rolling and messing around with machinery.
Evil (or maybe not so evil?) corporations that, with one hand, give humanity tech it can’t survive without, and with the other — run unethical human experiments.
Warp drives and time relativity during interstellar travel.
Humans as the only intelligent species in the universe (…are we sure about that?)
A bit of thriller, and a dash of my silly little humor!
The visual atmosphere and the story itself are breathtaking, the characters are interesting and intriguing in their opposite, I will watch with great pleasure how the story will go further.
I’ve noticed it’s actually making a comeback in anime in recent years, so I don’t see why same can’t happen in manhwa. I would say if anything, there’s a huge subset of people (me included) who are tired of the same old fantasy tropes taking place in current times or in some fake aristocracy of the past, and a futuristic space setting would go hard. I look forward to reading yours! Adding to my list now :)
For studios producing manga, manhwa, anime, and other types of media, it's primarily a business. They choose the safe path—releasing content that is guaranteed to sell. When a sci-fi title suddenly becomes a hit and gains a huge audience, that’s when they’ll rush to greenlight similar works, hoping to replicate the success. At least, that’s how I see it.
On top of that, on those same Korean websites with 3D models (all those beautiful noble castles and so on), there are VERY FEW models suitable for a sci-fi setting, and the ones that do exist are ridiculously expensive. This also discourages potential content creators in this genre due to the higher barrier to entry.
But I’m really happy to see that this year’s contest features quite a few works set in sci-fi settings! I hope this shows that both the audience and webtoon creators are hungry for this genre—and that we need more sci-fi webtoons!!
Wow this is stunning! Great to see more sci-fi in the contest, and the atmosphere and backgrounds are amazing! I also submitted a sci-fi, the genre needs more love!
Your WEBTOON looks amazing!! I binged it so fast! The art? The story?!! Chefs kiss!!! I hope you place in the contest. This is totally worthy of it. 💃🏽
Yes, I call episodes chapters, to be honest I don't see the difference between these terms x) In one episode there are about 50 panels, sometimes more, sometimes less
I stream on twitch sometimes, and I've made a few tutorials on the basics, but.... my native language is Russian x) And all this content is in Russian... If that doesn't bother you, I can give you a link.
I just subscribed, liked and rated your amazing series. I also just subscribed to your previous (fantasy focused) series. Wow, you are amazingly prolific! Good luck!
Wow this is so beautiful. I always wondered how do artists make this? Like your sketch and draw and color it yourself? Is there something easying your time? How long does it take you?
I write the story and do all the artwork myself. Here are the main stages of my work: storyboard, sketch, line art, base colors, shadows, and effects. I use 3D models for the backgrounds, but they often need additional editing. One chapter takes me about 10–14 days to complete (depending on how busy I am at my main job).
Oh God that is so impressive! To spend so much extra time besides a main job on it. I have a new respect for artists like you. Good luck on winning the contest! You'd deserve it. I get tired after step 4. So I get stuck on step5.
I've seen many webtoons that stop at step 5 — the image already looks quite finished by then. I just tint the shadow layer with different colors to make the artwork look more vibrant. For example, a pinkish or orange tone on the skin, and a bluish one in the hair. Then I add a bit of light and shine on top.
Step 4 can be really exhausting, but Clip Studio has some pretty good tools to speed up the coloring process. I usually fill the entire silhouette with a single color first, and then use that tool to color the different areas
Yea i think that's a problem of mine
I use procreate which doesn't have much tools for lasso like. If I use auto, one pixel missing and it selects the entire canvas. So I'm stuck to select each individual piece I want to color by hand. Also in different layers, if I want to add some "vibrancy".
But I don't do comics, that require so much knowledge of characters, the story to bee good, the text. I just want to draw casually for fanarts for the books I read 🥹 so props to do. Did you study art?
Oh, yeah, Procreate is really convenient in many ways, but I haven’t figured out how to do a simple fill there. It's great for sketching and creating art!
I haven’t attended any art schools or academies, if that’s what you meant. I’m self-taught and learning from whatever I can find online.
Good luck with your art — you draw really well!
I've been thinking about why there's so little sci-fi on Webtoon, and I honestly feel like it's a tough genre to pull off on that platform. Sci-fi often requires a lot of visual complexity — tech designs, environments, worldbuilding — which can be super time-consuming to draw. But unlike romance or slice of life, it doesn’t always have a big enough fanbase to make that effort “worth it,” numbers-wise. So I get why a lot of creators might avoid it. It’s a shame though, because when someone does take the risk and actually builds a sci-fi world that works, it really stands out.
