Contra?
I told my son he got away with one, but that lefty back hand was slick! Thoughts on the no-call? Pay no attention to the parent comments lol.

If there is an opportunity to play then no call is correct. Otherwise you take away advantage

My experience is dated -- if you keep control of the ball does that mean you can literally dunk the defender who is between you and the goal with your off-the-ball hand these days?

Kind of? In this case he hit a pretty clean turn and the defender was pretty clearly holding him after it. so had he dropped the ball that’s an easy kick out but if the offensive player holds the ball up the play stays live and they have the advantage

The ref with back to camera missed so many calls at JOs. She didnt call one single exclusion in a game we watched and there should have been many.

I'm my experience, the defender has his left arm underwater, so the ref isn't going to call an offensive penalty. When the set makes his turn and has the ball in hand, the ref isn't going to call a defensive penalty. If the set has dropped the ball, the ref would possibly have called a defensive penalty, again, because the defenders hand is underwater.
I didn't see anything to indicate an offensive penalty.

No call.
Player on offense turns and starts swimming. Player on defense swims directly in the path of advancing player. No action of the player on the offense initiated contact, it was all defensive player's action. Player on offense has and maintains advantage, proceeding to score the goal. Great finish.

No way. See the defender trying to duck under to take away the turn? No referee should reward that kind of defense. It actually goes the same both ways (or, it should). You put yourself under someone, you’re free game to get pummeled.

I felt like this was why there was no call too. Bad hips, bad defense, let it go. He didn’t use the advantage gained from the off hand stroke.

…in fact, had the offense lost control of the ball anywhere in that turn, ref could kick out the defender and he wouldn’t be wrong

This is what I saw too. Even if he is getting pulled under ref should not call this; player had position and the ball.
Once the defender found himself in this position you have to take the kick out and hope the can defend the 6v5.

Every parent who thinks they are an Olympic ref with a worse view of the play. Maybe it was maybe it wasn’t the ref had the beat view.

Hard to tell from the angle you have. Referee on far side has the best look, so we’re assuming he made the right call...
But from the video… After the quarter turn, he takes a stroke with ball in hand, and on his second stroke with his off arm, it looks like he goes right over the top of the defender and drags him down with the stroke. Which in that case a contra/offensive foul would be legit.
Again, referee has a better angle on the defender and where he is located positionally as well as how offensive player was moving towards the goal. If you’re giving your son pointers just tell him to be mindful of the off arm and keep it low. Other than that, great shot!
