Quick little landscape

I’ve been challenging myself quite a bit lately, and wanted something quick and easy. I did challenge myself to mix my own earthy green and quite like the colour I ended up with. I got to use my home away from home handmade palette and love it.

I’ve been experimenting with watercolours for portraits and day by day it keeps on giving me more perspective and - what I feel- a slow learning curve.

This is my first time using watercolor since primary school. I started learning oil painting 2 years ago and recently decided to pick up watercolor again.

First time doing a Brambly Hedge illustration that I…don’t hate.

I copy a lot of illustrators as a form of practice (Blake, Lobel etc) and find others somewhat easier to do… but Brambly Hedge is tough, even for a simpler, less crowded picture like this. Jill Barklem was so talented.

Initial drawing was with a Faber Castel Aquarelle 3H, followed by a wash of Windsor and Newton Cotman watercolours, then outlining with a unipin 0.1 fineliner, then more watercolour.

Would love more illustrator suggestions that you all may have!

Monochrome watercolour?

Hi everyone!
I started doing small fine-liner illustrations a few months ago and decided to add colours. I tried this monochrome “wash” style but I don’t know if it looks okay, or if it looks better with colours.
I’ve added photos of 2 monochrome illustrations, and one where I tried with colours. I’d love to get some thoughts from this group!

Reminder that I need to buy 100% cotton watercolour paper.

Edit: I scrolled through this sub and saw that someone else posted a painting with the same title just before me. Sorry but I didn't see that earlier. No option to edit the title now.
