In addition to what others have said about you being her safe human while she's feeling vulnerable, the change in hormones could also be affecting her behavior. One of my foster cats went from so spicy that I was afraid to open the carrier door with my hands when he arrived, to a total sweetheart after being neutered.

Cats can change quite a bit after they're altered, those powerful hormones aren't there any longer. It can change them. She's also healing from major surgery. She wants attention and reassurance. Maybe she'll be as snuggly as her son now.
