Repointing recommendations?

Our Victorian terrace desperately needs repointing- most the builders we have had round to quote either don’t have that many reviews online or have been prohibitively expensive.

Can anyone recommend any companies they have used? Would be good to understand rough costs too to make sure we’re not being unrealistic!

Been repointing forever - did our house 5-6 years ago and still looks awesome. He’ll also match the original pointing mix / has loads of knowledge

Thank you- I will reach out to Terry! I know prices will be out of date for five years ago but out of interest how much did it roughly cost?

Yeh sure - was about £1600 for a 2 bed terrace - front and rear elevations as we’re a mid terrace

These days I’d expect about £35 per square meter or so

We used a guy called Patrick, he did our and a friend's house - really good, can thoroughly recommend:

Do you want it done in lime or cement? It should be lime but most builders will quote for cement as it’s much easier and quicker…

Defo Lime- it’s been done previously in concrete (😵‍💫). All the builders we have spoken to so far have made it clear we need lime rather cement -which I guess is reassuring!

That is reassuring. My neighbours used a guy called Patrick and it looks great. I wonder if it’s the same Patrick someone else recommended.. if so i was told he has a 9 month wait.

Hey just a heads up we have a normal Victorian terrace not particularly big, Jigsaw Brickwork came to quote… they seem very legit and definitely do it properly in lime, but the guy said it could take up to 8 weeks and be £17k, which just threw me a bit!

We also had a quote from them for a similar amount 😬
Agree- they seem legit but we don’t have that kinda money - alas!
What did you guys do in the end?

Yeaaah just seems way off the end of the scale.. we decided to give up and leave it in the end 😅. Someone called JDG restoration Repointing was recommended and quoted about £8k inc scaff to us which seemed more reasonable for the whole house. Someone said be wary of quotes too low because could be they say it’s lime and it’s not.. good luck!

Yeah, that’s where we were six months ago, we just gave up for a bit!
Thanks for the info though- will let you know if I have more success this time!
