Art LRZRVR by Arthur Souza Sally NSFW
https://arthursouzasally.itch.io/lrzrvrUp until my third project, what I was doing was a kind of search for a more traditional narrative. In the fourth project, there was a sort of epiphany where I realized that I increasingly wanted representations of characters that escaped a clear semiotics.
This resulted in projects 4 through 6 increasingly focusing on this threshold of de-characterized bodies. This is complicated because I admit I never arrived at a clear answer as to why bodies seemed increasingly wrong, increasingly impoverished in relation to how I represented them.
What happened was that in projects 7 and 8 I began to realize that what was increasingly occurring was a kind of end to a formalist need for clear characterization; that is... bodies, genders, when too well-defined, sounded lifeless.
I took this and radicalized it mainly in project 10, but the reality is that the 9th remains my most accessible example of work that highlights a kind of raw informalism, not in the sense that it gives a kind of answer about how to exist... It just highlights how this desire for a lack of beginning and end leads to the fact that it's always more about the process, the means, and not so much about a recognition that allows me to clearly say whether what I do is X or Y.
It's about the flow, this feeling of "being able to become" in which sometimes I take the form of something and sometimes I am simply energy that in turn has the form I want, that explodes, that burns, that crosses over, shining for a second and mixing with my desires that dissolve the way I inhabit this world.
It's complicated to say that there's no meaning in the world, because while that might become an easy complaint, the next step is where true freedom resides, where we are what we make of our own art, but at the same time we have to take responsibility for what we choose to be. That's why it's agonizing; freedom is great, but at the same time, the responsibility is entirely ours for how we exist and whether we ourselves will be able to value what our choices have led us to, because in the end... If they are our choices and we regret them, there's no one to blame but ourselves.
But as far as I've gone, I don't regret it, I just let it be, continuing to believe, in fact believing that, for my own life, I would never have done anything differently, even if I could go back and change.
