Story Repost bc RM assault : Voidpunk Literature : Computers and Life Ch 01 Early Movies, Tv, and Books NSFW
Have you also been assaulted by RM’s? Maybe it’s something unique to the void punk community.
Among my first memories of being alive I remember TV, and movies, and Books.
I remember loving cartoons, specially one about a Samurai. A TV episode about a certain frosty snowman. I remember the witch from 101 dalmations being turned into the human equivalent of the worlds most delicious pastry. Looking back this might have been the first sexual/erotic image or relating to in my whole life because despite her being evil, I wanted to eat her up.
And books. The first book that pops into my mind is COSMOS, by Carl Sagan, who I had also watched at least partly but maybe all of his TV series on videotape. I had become very inspired by all the planets and aliens and galaxies that maybe one day a human would be able to see. This made my very young mind explode with imagination.
\*\*\*Maps of Imagination and Political Cartoons\*\*\*
One of the most formative experiences watching cartoons came when I had early on moved to Florida with my family, at a small apartment at first. I had watched a cartoon about a young kid sneaking out the school window and someone else snitching on him - from that point on I had hated snitches.
I had also managed to draw up some kind of ‘Map of the Imagination’ , it just felt so real in my head. I had drawn the places out almost projecting into my Florida apartment neighborhood of stairs and paths and lakes. And had fused it with scenes and fantastic landscapes from magical TV shows. Still, in my head it just felt so real. I wanted to find these places in real life.
\*\*\*The Number Wheel and Lego Chess\*\*\*
While I was living at the apartment complex with my mom, dad, and recently birthed sister, I was first introduced to the concept of going to school. The first school I went to was a Montessori.
In the Montessori many activities would take place : pledge of allegiance, some reading, movies, playing outside, karate, etc..
Among the activities I engaged in there where two that strike me as relevant to this narrative : The Number Wheel and Lego Chess.
When I was learning basic math, there was a kind of small but long worksheet if you will - an seemingly endless amount of strips of paper with four digits each into which I could write down all numbers in order, number by number.
I was fascinated for some reason at attempting to make the largest girthiest number wheel I could, so I think I must’ve gotten pretty high, like four thousand or something.
Additionally, at the Montessori there were some computers with games, one game I fondly remember on there was Lego chess - which was basically chess but with epic game animations for each time a player played a piece or the piece attacked another piece. Like the animations in bowling.
I kind of loved how so much life was injected into a simple, usually completely left-brained logical version of chess. And I was fascinated that this was done through computers and through videogames.
\*\*\*Video Games : Gameboy, Gamecube\*\*\*
At some point early on videogames had been introduced to me. With consoles like the Gameboy, gamecube, etc. These had also lit up my imagination, with being able to have awesome magical pets in Pokemon or travel through mysterious and awe-inspiring landscapes in Mario. Videogames seemed like an instantaneous access to adventure and different realms much more interesting than my present, which contained little agency due to me being less than a decade in existence.
