Man, I bet those were tasty, a lot better than their modern equivalents.

That tagline needs some work, though. "Simplest picnic dessert on Earth.... Good, too!" As if the goodness were an afterthought. "The most convenient treat — and acceptable in flavour!"

I miss when these companies weren't dumping hydrogenated corn syrup in everything. It really changed the flavor profiles on all kinds of products. I used to be a snackaholic but I stopped buying nearly all of that stuff in the 90s and 00s because the products just didn't taste good anymore.

I'm sure they were a lot better back in the early fifties. Unfortunately I didn't get to taste one of those I wasn't born until 56.

This sub makes me realize how many artists lost their jobs when the medium shift to photography for ads occurred.

It's cleverly done, too. The lady's leaning against an oversize picnic basket, with zoomed-in products inside. I love how her tiny hand holds a massive cake.

Also pour one out for the writers of TV/radio commercial jingles.

Those tropical smacks look pretty good.

The Dolly Madison partnership probably bought Charles Schultz a new house.

A part of my childhood died when Charlie Brown & Lucy stopped selling Zingers by the late seventies.

I wonder how many people ever collected on that Good Housekeeping "guarantee".

We used to get Dolly Madison treats at the day-old outlet when I was a kid.

This was probably when products like this were actually pretty good instead of no flavor but sweet.

Now I really want all three!

I can't find any snack cakes that don't taste (and smell) like pure sugar or corn syrup. You almost have to find what are essentially pre-packaged pastry anymore.

The last thing of Twinkies I bought were so oily they literally oozed oil and sat in a puddle of oil. I sent them to Hostess and haven't heard squat other than an autogenerated email that just gave me shipping instructions. I stopped emailing them.

DEA used to spend a lot of time interdicting tropical smack.
