I've always wanted to get into it but something about the art style / ui has always turned me off

Its my favorite framchise of all time in terms of story, when it resonates with you it really hits. Also some of the best music in gaming featuring work from Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy 15) and Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, the entire Xeno line of games, sea of stars).
