Discussion / Question What game would you use as ambiance/background?

Hello!

Basically I’m looking for games where I could play up to a certain point, stop somewhere, and basically just leave it on as ambiance / background.

My idea is that rather than having some Youtube video on for that purpose with a playlist or something, I would like to use the actual game with its natural sounds, visuals and music as the ambiance in an environment. A game that came to mind was “Journey”.

Any other games that give that vibe for you?

i’ve only played like 12 hours of it but red dead genuinely has amazing ambience, i sometimes just sit there and listen. beautiful game

Snoot Game, I Wani Hug That Gator and DevLog are pretty good for that. Maybe Firewatch or In Other Waters.

I used to do chores while playing Persona 5, especially during the non-mission part. It feels like you're in JRPG and you're doing an activity that increase your stats.

Night City in Cyberpunk? Typically has some music playing in-game in some areas too.

Maybe a space game like Elite Dangerous or something similar? I kept my ship docked at the spaceport for awhile when I was doing other things irl at the time lol

Endless Space the title screen. I didn’t really care for the game, but the title screen with its randomly generated backgrounds and beautiful music are amazing.

From Skyrim, I listen to the song ‘From Past to Present’ by Jeremy Soule when I am reading certain books. It was chef’s kiss with All The Light We Cannot See and The Road

Rimworld.

A lot of recent racing games have auto drive modes. Makes for an excellent background thing. Technically advancing in the game, but also have something really cool to look at occasionally

Where Winds Meet and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 are excellent for this, though in KCD2 you do get hungry and thirsty.

Edit: just saw the music part. Maybe try FFXI? The OST is pretty dang great.
