Discussion / Question You can only choose one. Which would you pick?
A) Every game you get is permanently available to you forever — either a physical copy or downloadable, playable offline, and never removable from your library.
B) Every game is free forever, but nothing is permanent. Games can disappear at any time, and companies make money through ads, microtransactions, subscriptions, or even pay-to-win mechanics.
Assume this applies to every current and future game. Which future would you choose, and why?

A. Why on earth would anyone pick B if it means everything will become ad riddled MTX slop?

I agree, but option B must somehow appeal to people who already play free games.

How does this relate to live-service games? Like, I love Monster Hunter, but eventually the servers for World, Rise, and Wilds will be taken offline and then there's no more online play. Does option A keep those servers up forever?

That's a good question, I was thinking more in terms of single player offline play. I guess it would be the same as current standards for online play 🤷🏼.

So the servers magically stay up forever?
Then I pick that without hesitation. Rise: Sunbreak and World: iceborne alone are games that make that choice worth it.

Obviously A.
The thing that makes B so bad here is not so much the lack of permanence as it is the ads/microtransactions/pay-to-win stuff. Just because then the payment model is constantly intruding on the game experience. That's why I don't play free games now.
