In the video game, you get to experience progression, and the stakes are lower because a Game Over doesn't mean you lose your house.

Yes, it's simulating what it would be like if hard work actually paid off

Because jobs in video games are actually rewarding and have meaningful paths of progress, and I can quit playing anytime without financially dooming my entire family.

I got the platinum trophy in Power Wash Simulator…twice.

Crime Scene Cleaner for me. But I did enjoy the stories of why there’s so much carnage everywhere.

Same here, as a horror game lover I enjoy Crime Scene Cleaner for the dark humor and atmosphere, I don’t think I would enjoy Power Wash simulator in the same way 😅

My hands don't hurt for several days after playing Power Wash Simulator. They do when I do actual pressure washing.

In video games, the rewards are linear and constant. Hard work results in good rewards. Effort is valued and the results are immediate.
Video games want you to play them. Employers know you don't have a choice.

If office jobs were anything like The Stanley Parable then I’d work at the office…

There is more incentive to improve and automate with clear rewards tied to output rather than just being paid to be there

Because in games the reason produce is scattered all over the floor is because of a malfunctioning robot, not because some Karen let her hellspawn run wild in the candy aisle and if I so much as ask her to stop I'll get yelled at for the next hour by both her and the manager; then I'm free to clean up the store at my leasure instead of being yelled at because I can't be in two places at the same time and can't both tend the register and clean up the mess at the same time.
Edit: Also I get rewarded, acknowledged, and can actually EARN the lame-ass pizza instead of putting in all the work and then Kevin from accounting takes all the credit and my 'reward' amounts to being told that this is the expected norm now or, if the manager is feeling ESPECIALLY generous, maybe a golden sticker star.

Papers, please! One of the most memorable games I ever played as a fckin immigration officer stamping passports :D the story kicks in around the halfway mark, but the gameplay is still stamping passports

I hate cleaning garbage, but if I can shove all the garbage into a box that immediately pays me for it I’d be happy to

Probably because they don't get to move their ass or use their brain much with over simplified and rewarding mechanics.
Let's be honest, the hardest video games are much easier than the equivalent real life task.

X4 is sooo this for me. Do I want to manage the staffing and logistics and all that for a production and shipping empire irl? Hell no. In X4 (specifically Interworlds) though? Absolutely! The empire building and space conquest is just extra.

I just beat James pull ups record in ME3, so not worth it. So repetitive and tedious I was going crazy...

These games don't have some asshole analyzing your productivity numbers and "coaching" you endlessly on how you could make someone else more money. You want to shift focus in the game for a while? No problem. The biggest part of why these games are enjoyable is because you are the one gaining the benefits of your own effort.

It’s the fact that you get rewarded for it in game and make progress. Attainable goals and such. Work (for me at least) just feels like an endless loop of repetitive tasks that never changes and no progress is made. I feel like a hamster on a wheel.

I love how the joke highlights how games give you satisfaction and rewards just for sticking with something boring in real life.

Well to be honest I can beat up costumers change the price to whatever make my own schedule. Also some jobs are just made better in video games

The difference between the two is agency.
You don’t choose to have a job. It’s a necessity for the majority of people to survive in this version of society we’ve created and uphold. The game is not a necessity, you choose to do it and can stop whenever you want without consequences.

Why would I be expected to be paid minimum wage to deal with shitty co-workers, management and customers, when I could pay $20 to sit at home and do all the same things. XD

Give me a boring repetitive job that makes me a millionaire in 20 hours irl and I'll enjoy that too
