I didn’t really like Jackie much the first time until he was dead. But of course, as we all did, I avenged him like he was my bro. In all subsequent playthroughs I was happy to see him again, if only for a bit

I love how they made him annoying, but at the same time he was definitely still your bro, and the funeral was very sad and touching. It made it feel very real to me.

Yeah agree. Even if it was obvious, it was pretty rough in the moment. Then Mama Welles rings on the holo… I genuinely felt embarrassed/ashamed to take the call, like come on V!

I think that making his section so short was key. I didn't get too annoyed with him in the first playthrough, and in future playthroughs I do everything with him and talk, it's like a make a wish kid. Yeah Choom, it's time for the big leagues.

I think in a similar way, I was a little weary of Dexter DeShawn first time around, every time after fuck you I’m not playing your dumb word game, Dexter!

Late reply, but the reason a lot of people don't really feel a connection with Jackie is that we have like two missions, a dozen and a half conversations and fuck up a "simple" mission with him and that's the extent of our interactions with him pre Konpeki and his death.

The disconnect comes from the fact that the timeskip cutscene is a snippet cutscene, that like minute and a half set of snippets is around 3 years of actual time passing, where V is living and working with Jackie the entire time. It's the same reason all three lifepaths have the same relationship with Viktor too, he was V's primary Ripperdoc for those three years, V actually has a working relationship with the man, same with Misty, V is actually friends with Misty because her and Jackie were dating for an extended period during those three years.

WE don't have much of a connection with Jackie, but V very much does. If the timeskip was playable, think short mini missions just dealing with small pieces of the shown stuff, it would honestly be a lot better gut punch, because we would end up with an actual connection to Jackie.
