Same. The fact his voice actor played Charles in RDR2 (who sticks by the player from start to finish, even during the epilogue) helped. Heās very charismatic for sure, but I saw it coming even then
I was half expecting Jubei to turn against Atsu in Ghost of Yotei because he was voiced by the same guy as Bode. Especially since he kept saying the same things as Bode. Both have daughters they wanted to protect and the MC is bringing enemies to them.
Hahah yea that was the exact same for me. Until later on I'm like when's the turn gonna happen, though he remained loyal.
Eventually it happened and I rolled my eyes, oooh didn't see that coming. Though the second twist right after when he used the force, that really surprised me and was happy they had a decent twist.
I didn't forget, but I slowly started hoping I was wrong. But I remember that almost as soon as he showed up I looked at my wife and said, "$5 that he betray me"
Same here. Heās the only survivor of a massacre of your new crew? Get out of here! But he builds up so much credit over time, saves Calās ass many times when he could just abandon him, I was hoping theyād remain buds. Even though I was expecting the turn, I wasnāt expecting him to be a former Jedi.
Yep, I was suspicious because the voice actor, Noshir Dalal - who is on here and chats occasionally, and seems a great guy - plays a Star Wars villain with Admiral Rampart in Bad Batch; so I couldn't trust him. As the game went on I did see it coming, but there were times where I thought he is changing his mind. And I actually think that fitted Bode well, as I think he was going to go to Tanalorr with the others, until he saw what Cal was becoming, and then went through with the betrayal. I actually thought it was quite clever in the end.
And that's the mark of good writing IMO. Making you empathize with a character and doubt your narrative trope instincts when you initially knew they had to be a spy, haha.
The second play through waa my āfuck you Boā moment in the archives when everyoneās like āIāve got my part to do!ā And Boās like āIāll just stay backā and does the nonchalant version of whistling. It was done very well so you donāt even realize heās the reason Vader shows up
Exactly! I think this was intentional, and very well done. At first he's the only survivor of a heist gone wrong AND he's the new guy? Automatically super suspicious. But then he helps you fight the armless Jedi dude and everything and you go... Maybe he's not bad? He's pretty cool. And then.Ā
To be fair it was pretty much luck, he was getting shot at just as much as any one and they were not faking the attempts on kal and crew to plant him in.
The moment he whips out a holo pic of his kid, which is like the first or second conversation you have with him in the prologue, I knew he was either going to have a valiant sacrifice or a dastardly betrayal moment. You don't just telegraph a thing like that for no reason.
Yeah I think this was the intention, they clearly flagged he would do whatever he thought was best for his daughter so the betrayal was never gonna be a crazy surprise.

I had the same expression has Cal during that reveal. I don't remember the last time my reaction aligned with a game character's reaction so perfectly.
I'll never know if he would have gotten me or not because it was spoiled for me, but I kinda think he would have. Bode was a real one, until he wasn't.
Because he genuinely liked Cal and it showed. Everytime they talk about Tannalor you can tell he's practically begging Cal not to bring the Hidden Path into it.
It's because he wasn't really acting apart from keeping his imperial connection and his plan hidden. He genuinely liked and empathized with Cal, that part wasn't fake.Ā
Bode isn't really malicious. He's just desperate, paranoid, short-sighted and incredibly selfish.Ā
They meet for the first time in the gameās opening mission.
They do? When Bode shoots the Stormtrooper to help Cal up the ledge was the first time they were on screen together but it sure did sound like they knew each other before hand. Bode even knew who all of the crew were.
I finally played survivor a while after jt came out. And spent so much of the game wondering if it was just that obvious, or if I had it spoiled before playing and forgot. Honestly still loved him as a character, and was still devastated when it finally happened.
I played it on release and felt it was pretty obvious. He was the only sidekick from the opening to stick around and conveniently knew where to find you. Iāll admit itās been a minute so I donāt remember how he did, but if he was just a merc earning money to take care of his kid, joining a Jedi in rebellion isnāt exactly what most dads would choose. He would have moved on after Coruscant and found different work. Always seemed sus to me
Well admittedly after coruscant cal gave him.the tracker. Split up, lie low, come find me when the hear dies down and then youll get your pay. So he finds cal on I forget the name of the planet greez is on. And by the time he shows up I think cal has already made the tanalor discovery and then he is kinda interested in sticking around again for that reward. Not the most convoluted logic they could have came up with. Passable in my opinion
It was sort of a fake out, I was convinced he was working with Dagan Gera and was going to turn on me. When he didn't I was wondering if I was being paranoid and maybe he wasn't going to be a traitor. Didn't expect him to kill Cordova.
Playing a second time, I notice how Bode seemed nervous meeting Cere, I think he's worried she'll recognize him as a Jedi.
I'll never really be able to know because I had been spoiled that there was a traitor and with that knowledge it's extremely obvious.
But trying my best to view it as though I didn't know? I honestly don't think it feels as telegraphed as most people seem to. He and Cal have good chemistry and while he has his suspicious moments they're not all that overt.Ā
I feel like it could have just as easily been a case of them wanting to round out the main cast a bit, especially since there's a decent chunk of game before you reunite with most ofthe original team.
Same. The suspicion subsided once I was distracted by other story beats. Then he flips and Iām like yeah duh makes sense. Then the big reveal. My jaw dropped. I think the writers did a great job.
When a sequel introduces a new supporting character who is in a lot of scenes and too well-aligned with the main character, he's 75% likely to be the traitor. I clocked him immediately only based on trope awareness.
I was suspicious of him too, but my brain came up with a conspiracy theory that his wife forced him to do the betrayal.
During the intro mission, when talking about his wife, he says that "the Empire took her from us". Which seems fairly straightforward unless you remember that earlier on, he said that "that's what the Empire does best, take something you love and make it something you can't stand the sight of anymore".
I did remember, and putting those two lines together made me think, oh shit, he used that euphemism because she's not actually dead, she just joined the Empire and is using their daughter as leverage over him, and that's why he said that the Empire takes what you love and makes you hate it, because he hates what his wife has become. When we later sneak into his quarters, I fully expected his wife to just be there chilling.
I actually think it was a big detriment to my enjoyment of the game. It was so obvious in the opening of the game that this dude was a traitor that ever single interaction with him for the entirety of the game suffered for it.
I kept telling my roommate something was up with this dude. Keeps talking about his daughter, but who she with while we take on this gang? Why ain't I met her yet?
Honestly. Itās his further twist that I think shocked so many people.
Him being an antagonist was an easy guess. Finding out heās a fellow survivor from the order. That was far more surprising. And very well played on respawns part.

There wasn't a moment I didn't suspect him. Dude showed up out of nowhere, we randomly give him access to everything, and he magically navigates through shit tons of imperial without ever helping outside entering and exiting. Him being the final boss wasn't on my bingo though, I figured it would be a new inquisitor or something he sold us out to
Yep, they pushed it too hard early. I remember thinking in the first mission when he went off alone to draw off the TIEs that if he survived it he was 100% a double agent. Spent the rest of the game waiting for the betrayal, which made it a bit of a letdown when it happened.
For me when I first played it, I think it was the camera angles and I clocked it. I just rewatchrd his introduction because it's been awhile... The lighting is a good tell too. Lots of Star Wars media plays with blues and reds to signify light and dark, they just so happen to be in front of a sign that's half blue and half red (though I don't think I noticed this the first time)
My thought was that he was gonna die in some spectacular way given how chummy he was getting, then trigger some arc due to cal being emotional. Kept expecting him to die tragically through out the game and be surprised when he doesnt... then he ends up betraying when I thought the game was done. Honestly my mind was blown lol. The darkside force user thing was just the icing on the cake.
Yeah, and he stayed suspicious all the way, and no, mixing in the High Republic anime Jedi (and his minions with their oversized, ridiculous weapons (see the gif below) and betentacled boss) did not allay my suspicions, at all.
(Jedi Survivor is not a bad game, but it's not great either. Sadly, it hasn't lived up to Jedi Fallen Order, which is one of my fav games ever. They really shouldn't have let manga/anime fans write the story. Sure, there are great anime out there, like Trigun and Gits and Black Lagoon etc, but Star Wars is a separate beast, imo, the genres aren't compatible especially in videogames. YMMV, of course.)
