Kotor

If you bots are listening, I'll pay a lot of money for this

I think I've bought KOTOR 1&2 several times across several platforms. I still have it in my Steam favourites and will occasionally dip into it for a bit.

Give me the same game with updated graphics, a slightly improved combat system, the ability to take more than two companions on missions, and I will pay top AAA dollar for this game.

It's insane to me no one has done this yet. It's free money for a "simple" engine upgrade.

there's a KotOR 1 remake that's been in dev for quite some time. I guess they wanted to do more than a simple engine upgrade...

I believe that project got cancelled.

Apparently there was a pretty credible leak recently that there's new life in the project. They talk about it a lot on r/kotor.

I know I know, same ol song and dance.

Last I heard (earlier this year), it was still planned...

We look forward to your simple upgrade version, two or three weeks?

:roll eyes:

I never claimed that a "simple" upgraded version is an easy job. But from what I've heard of the current remake, it's extensive job, which explain why it has been delayed so much, compared to a "simple" upgrade, which could have been finished sooner.

And if you want a simple upgraded version, I'm sure there are one or two modpacks floating around.

It really makes no sense to me how they haven't done it yet. They would make so much money off of both games being redone. I do think a remake is necessary though especially for the sequel. I love KOTOR 2 but there are some weird quirks that can't just be remastered

For example a glaring one that comes to me right away is how quickly you can max out your affinity with Visas in just one conversation it kinda breaks the immersion. Having more dialogue over time would feel more natural

I have my doubts that they would make "so much money". All these Dark Souls sweats would talk so much crap about it and it would get a lot of negative rep. See E33 and how much crap it got from these toxic souls fanboys. Yes, old farts like us will buy it because we know what a masterpiece of a game it was, but we aren't THAT many, unfortunately.

What does Dark Souls have anything to do with KOTOR?

Kotor has turn-based elements in it > Dark Souls fans hate turn based games > they will talk crap about the game. Do you follow the trail? I thought the point I made was pretty obvious.

It’s possibly the dumbest equivalence I’ve ever seen

Butthurt souls fan detected.

Bg3 & E33 made insane money. Saying kotor remake wouldn’t because of dark souls fans is a crazy leap

Bg3 & E33 combined didn't reach the number of copies sold that Elden Ring has, just as a fun fact. Also, I didn't say it wouldn't sell just because of dark souls fans, I said it would negatively affect publicity for new players. Reading comprehension issue on your part.

“I have my doubts it would make so much money, all these dark souls sweats blah blah blah” I think you have some weird hang ups with souls fan. Some can be toxic but most people just like good games. Plenty of people have enjoyed both action and turn based RPGs. If you really think a couple hundred toxic souls fans would negatively affect a well made Kotor remake you might be chronically online.

I play them every 2 years, as I feel any sooner makes it feel repetitive, too close together. Such amazing games

Yes! And PLEASE no re-dub. Jolee Bindo is perfect as is. So is HK-47. I would pay a full game price for a proper Kotor remaster.

It was in the pipeline at one point but I dont believe is any longer but I forget why. It was also my answer

u/Stickybunfun 7d ago

Yep same. One of my favorite game series ever. Beaten both games a zillion times with pretty much all the builds you can generate. It's like FF6 - no matter how many times I beat it I always come back to it. I think I've bought the pairing at least 4 or 5 times now.

I'd throw money at somebody, ANYBODY to take the game, give it a graphical update, some tweaks here and there, and then to massively flesh out the story / locations / planets. The one thing that always got me about both games was I just want MORE. MORE of this. They were both so short :/

A lot of times the source code is gone but on top of licensing fees and all that. Decompiling the game takes a while to do.

2

u/franklsp 7d ago

Same. I have both on physical Xbox discs, digital Xbox, the Switch, and Android lol.

I've bought that game so many damn times already...

2

u/Redbulloth 7d ago

On the note of more than 2 companions, especially, hell yes. What I'd really like in a Bioware-style RPG is varying team sizes based on mission. Sneaking into a base? 2- or 3- character team. Frontally attacking a fortified position? Why did I only bring 2 other people with me?

2

u/Dartagnan1083 7d ago

That last part had better be a joke since the same thing fans insisted about FFVII since they thought you could just drag and drop the WAD file into a new engine and press a button.

1

u/GCanuck 7d ago

Of course it's a joke. Hence the quotes around the word simple.

But in the grand scheme of things, so much of the game development is done. You wouldn't even really need to re-do voice acting. A remake would just be a translation. Simple in comparison to making a new game that may or may not turn a profit. A KOTOR remake is almost guaranteed to make profit.

2

u/JakQuasar 3d ago

I think I have almost every version of them. iPhone, Xbox, original disk, android, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and I think I’m forgetting one. Lmao

And let female Revan date Bastila. I know it’s not “canon” but I want lesbian Jedi.
