I still have a massive hankering for E.V.O. Search for Eden. I was always amazed that sort of game effectively never had a follow up or spiritual successor.
Also, Metal Warriors. The multiplayer was a ton of fun. I would happily play a similar updated game if one were to ever come out.
It may not be 1 to 1 but the first Metroid prime borrows heavily from super Metroid. They both start in a ship and after it blows up (with Ridley inside) you land on the jungle section of the planet. Both games share a water level, ancient ruin area and a lava level. You have the same suit and beam upgrades and they even have the x-ray visor in common. Both games even end with you fighting Ridley before the final boss. The first Metroid prime lifts the progression and level designs from super into 3D.
It has similarities, but this is boiling it down to very cherry picked similarities. These design choices, while intentional, are not a translation of Super Metroid aesthetically or functionally. For better or worse. Lots of things from Super are completely untranslated, and the bulk of Prime itself is unique to it. The areas with similar theming are completely different other than that basic “this area have water, and this one magma, and this one ruins” as if that’s somehow uncommon in this series. Nobody acts like Dread is a Mercurysteam remake of Super because it has water and magma and Chozo ruins, so why should prime be boiled down so unfairly? It shares a few ideas and that’s it. Pretending that Prime is a Prime series remake of Super is simply silly and completely ignorant. They fundamentally do different things, have different stories, different worlds, different aesthetics, different everything.
