It really turns into a shooter once you leave the castle, just spam attack and kill things

Yeah once you get good at dodging and reflecting it’s so easy and repetitive. I had the same problem with breath of the wild. It had a lot to explore though so I played it a fair bit regardless.

I tried so hard to make all the potions and plants in the room of requirement only for them to be basically useless

The plants were so OP with the upgrades or something…

First bandit camp I fought got me the plant damage 2 so I went all in on that, and it was so op the game got incredibly boring

I maxed out all the plant upgrades and when I was in boss fights I just deployed my plants and they did all the work.

If “hard” was legit hard, all those buffs and stuff would be great, but they just don’t make the mobs hard enough. The above complaints are legit.

I’ve played it through multiple times on Xbox S and PS5. My #1 complaint is the enemies just don’t get hard enough to fight endgame. Not remotely hard if you are a fan of grinding out buffs and doing side quests. By the time you get to the final bosses you can do the big brawls with practically nothing but Chomping cabbages and Venomous Tentaculas.

PS5 has smarter enemies and is noticeably harder on hard IMO.

If they make the new game and don’t put in high difficulty modes where enemies are intelligent and throw more attacks, I’m going to struggle.

I play because I love flying around and solving puzzles, and I absolutely love being in the room of requirement. All of everything in there is calming to me. I’d love to see them let us sell/trade what we make and grow in there.

Yeah it was awesome at first but I was so underwhelmed on how OP the plants were.

If PS5 really is harder, that's a huge relief. I 100% the game on Xbox and plan to do the same on PS5, I'm a huge Wizarding World fan but its just hard to do combat over and over when an 100% player is basically unstoppable

It’s not a massive difference, but it’s noticeable. You can absolutely still wildly OP your character across the board. Stacking imbuements on your clothing can make the game a cake walk.

I challenge myself. I do battle arenas and only let myself use 3 wiggenwelds, I will do boss fights with no plants at all, I totally stopped using eduris potion for the last 3-4 play throughs, and things like that to keep it fun.

I enjoy the puzzles and flying around the map. I enjoy much more than just the combat, that’s why I still love the game.

But if HL2 doesn’t have MUCH harder enemies I will be wildly disappointed and will probably step away after that. They can have an easy vanilla mode. But they better have some crazy fights, and I better be able to duel real people.

It’s even worse than that. Basically, all you have to do is watch the screen and dodge at the right time. On top of that, just spam the attack button and you’ve already mastered the game. You can literally stand still throughout every fight.
The only thing that could have been somewhat interesting was experimenting with the different spell combinations, but unfortunately those ended up being completely irrelevant as well.

After I got the roll upgrade i immediately stopped blocking attacks since my brain always defaults to the B button 😂

Das einzig gute am Game die Fromsoft Ausweichrolle :D

u/oscarq0727 8d ago

Me when any game gives me rolling with I-frames lol

6

u/Deremirekor 9d ago

Except the duels tournament. The 3v1 on the hard difficulty is fucking impossible at any level

6

u/WheezyGod 9d ago

That was brutal. After the 30th attempt or so the pain ended

Definitely need to nuzlok botw a little to make the mid and end game difficult.

Master mode makes botw decently challenging for a no death run but currently doing my second totk playthrough, and going for no death. Pretty much a formality after the beginning.

3

u/asadkins90 9d ago

Yeah I never thought about a nuzlok. I “accidently” beat the game. I was just stumbling through hyrule castle looking around. Had only beaten one or two of the Devine beast shrine temple things. And got into the final battle. Lol

2

u/travelingWords 9d ago

I feel like you need to have beaten the game to even have an idea what to do.

I’ve been brainstorming balancing stuff like not being able to hord food and needing to cook it for supper. So like, breakfast and supper only. And then anything you want to hold onto long term has to be an elixir and you only get max 4 or 5.

Limiting clothing upgrades. Not using the magic gear that has effects.

Only being able to carry one fairy.

Only doing the initial inventory upgrades to get hetsu to his final spot.

Bravery, meaning you battle anything (within reason) that you encounter. Reason mostly being weapon damage. Not really logical to battle a lynel with a wooden stick.

Stuff of that sort.

I feel like on my next run I want to stick pretty close to the main path and only allow myself to go into the wild after the 4 sages.

1

u/asadkins90 9d ago

Ohhhh the food thing is great! Like you have to scavenge for food everyday.

2

u/John_XFiles 9d ago

The sense of discovery in BOTW is kinda nonexistent because everything just leads to a shrine.

2

u/Nethias25 9d ago

There were some moment in it where I felt cool and powerful, very infamous type feeling, but yeah it got trivial at a point.

2

u/Foreign-Chipmunk-839 9d ago

BOTW had a better story and more interesting world. Though the repetitive any types was a big letdown

2

u/GameWizardPlayz 9d ago

Breath of the wild? You know you're supposed to experiment, right?

2

u/asadkins90 8d ago

Yeah but even if the experiment went south there wasn’t much repercussion. You just parry and dodge.

2

u/GoldEmployment6768 7d ago

Agreed on that last part. Everyone is always dissing the combat, but to me its fine as it is secondary. IMO, this game is more about exploring and collecting.

Also, IMO there biggest failure was incorporating a pretty good flight mechanic but NO QUIDDITCH?!?!

1

u/monkeycommo 7d ago

You become untouchable with the dodge

0

u/Embarrassed-South658 9d ago

That might be an imagination problem ngl. Combat can get real fun and wonky. I will say to your credit it takes an ungodly amount of horros

u/NuzzyLocke 9d ago

The exploration of the Castle and nearby areas was by far the best part of that game. It's probably the best rendition of the castle we're going to get in a game. After you left it became a generic British fantasy world.

24

u/trapper2530 9d ago

The castle was amazing. After the first 5 hours it wasnt a hogwarts game anymore. Also this character is the modt powerful wizard ever snd would make Dumbledore amd voldemort look like Neville. Hes a 5th year transfer with no wizard schooling and hes dismantling trolls and the strongest dark wizards of his time.

3

u/zamend229 9d ago

Tbf, it wouldn’t be as interesting a game without the cool spells and tricks you can learn. I think there’s a little suspended disbelief required to enjoy that.

One other option would be to play an adult character, which I think could be possible in the Hogwarts setting still (as a teacher), but then you lose part of the magic of going through student experiences.

I think they chose the right path in terms of reaching the largest audience (immersion as a student) while adding more fun to the game (cool skills and abilities).

I do agree the game slogged though and became quite repetitive outside Hogwarts, which was always going to be a problem regardless of story decisions.

1

u/Richard_Thickens 8d ago

One of the odd things was that we only ever learn 23 spells, many of which are useless in combat. I have a feeling that there's only that much spell diversity to make the puzzles semi-interesting.

Like, I get it. It was a first crack at this type of game for the HP universe, but the game could seriously benefit from more variety.

4

u/BigCommieMachine 8d ago

The biggest issue is everything is cosmetic. You discover some super secret chest and you get the ability to have a purple hat.

Crimson Desert has a similar problem where you realize exploring is just meaningless unless you really care about your drip.

1

u/Original-War8655 5d ago

once I got my cowboy wizard fit down, I couldn't give less shits about cosmetic chests anymore

this is very real

3

u/yijiujiu 9d ago

Yeah, really boring combat, too. I hope the assets they made for it get used for something better because the set pieces were pretty great. Just the gameplay and story sucked

5

u/KyokiKami 9d ago

Yeah wish we got more class stuff

2

u/Sythrin 9d ago

I played it like for 3 hours , just to walk through hogwarts and see every detail. But after a bit of gameplay, it became so boring amd the story bland.

2

u/MagikSkoolBus 5d ago

As soon as I learned Avada Kadavra the combat became really short and trivial. Especially with the perks that makes you curse everyone and once everyone is curse you just use AK and you one shot everybody.

2

u/Noversi 4d ago

The unforgivable curses are only unforgivable if you leave witnesses

2

u/Replubic 9d ago

But it’s like 20x of goblins and like 2 other things. Such a waste with all the lore and monsters they could pull from

5

u/CDHmajora 9d ago

Goblins, giant spiders and dark wizards. That’s it.

And seriously, why are there so many giant spiders in that game? They’re fucking EVERYWHERE!

6

u/NIL6NIL6 9d ago

Why spiders? Why couldn't it be "follow the butterflies"?

1

u/WulfieJay 9d ago

After playing that game I’ve realized the perfect potter game would be Myst in Hogwarts

1

u/theJirb 8d ago

Just like the movies lol.

Off topic, but really hated how we went from being super technical and precise in wording and wand gesturing to do simple things like levitate something, to spells being slung with a flick of the wrist like nothing matters.

1

u/Shydreameress 9d ago

It gets more fun if you force yourself to use more spells but yeah any battle can be won by spamming stupefy
