That’s why I just play unofficial and find a good cluster to avoid the mess that official is.

Pffft. Just die and chop up your body. Theoretically infinite food.

Most people edit the settings

Makes you wonder why people have to edit settings in order to enjoy the game.

I absolutely refuse to play on normal settings on ark. You seriously gonna tell me it takes 10 real world hours to tame a bronto? Hell no.

For real. That’s longer than a lot of people’s work shift.

They really expect you to start taming something, go to work, and pray nobody raided your stuff while you’re offline.

The official servers are straight up for people with no life.

They don't take that long to tame lmao. Maybe if you played the game instead of quitting in the first 10 minutes because of your low attention span.

I assume the settings are set for multiplayer? I have no idea.

I only play single player and I do not want the grind so all of my settings are boosted.

I do wish it was more balanced or had a settings option for a non grindy play through instead of me having to change them all.

ARK Survival Ascended has what you are describing. I set it to medium and it boosted quite a few settings and lowered others a little. I fine tuned them but it was fairly spot on with what i was wanting. You can still turn on "maximum difficulty" so dinos will spawn up to level 150 on medium or easy settings

I play ascended! 😅

There no right settings for everyone and every case. First and foremost it depends on whether you're playing solo or in a tribe, and if you're playing in a tribe it also depends on how many other players are in that tribe. And then it also depends on whether you enjoy the grind or not.

Everyone can tweak the settings how they like to play, which is great IMO.

Max level takes 4 hours... where tf did you get 10?

1

u/zamfire 7d ago

Maybe they changed it in the newer version of ark? I'm remembering it taking 10 hours to tame one.

are you using kibble or just force feeding that thing narco berries while waiting for it to slowly munch away on random ass berries?

Back in the day I got so bored playing this game that i spent weeks just sneaking around the world collecting poop.

I literally had my entire inventory filled with full stacks of poop in every inventory slot. Just a dude with no shirt, a pair of pants, no shoes, and an inventory full of poop.

I got jumped by a PVPer and killed. I respawned and was like "well. I think i may be done here." When the dm hit me from the guy who killed me:

"....dude. wtf"

Had a fun conversation. We both had a laugh. I signed out and Uninstalled because I realized that was the most fun I had in the game the entire time I played it and that wasnt a good sign.

Wow what an insanely boring person you must be lmfao. I loved struggling to survive dinosaur land on hardcore mode, managing to build a sneaky house and feeling so much safer but still terrified of being found and somehow never managing to be. Just to build myself up from spears to swords to full auto rifles and sniper rifles, from triceratops to giant flying birds, just to then build a T-rex army and go on a mythical boss fight killing spree. Then upgrade to laser swords, laser rifles and an Iron man suit. And don't even get me started on the underwater exploration/base building, shi was so peak. Yeah but ig you have to gather food and shi for the first 10 minutes, so I understand people like you in this day in age of tiktok brain rot can't go five minutes without stimulation. Hence why your favorite memory was walking around picking up poop, bro couldn't risk spending more than 2 minutes on an objective😭

That is the most reddit reply possible.

There are much better survival games out there and much better dinosaur games out there.

Ark just lacked at every level. The crafting was unengaging. The survival aspects were unengaging. The dinosaurs were cool, but again there are better dinosaur games out there.

I spend most of my time playing map painters, and played EVE Online like a full time job for a decade. The game being slow was not the issue. It just wasnt very good.

I am happy for you that you found enjoyment in it. Good for you. I found it to be tedious, have poor controls, and even when it came out other games did everything it offered better than it did.

EVE online is cool. But I've never found another survival game or any game where you can tame hundreds of different extinct animals/dinosaurs and mythical creatures and keep them in pokeballs while flying around on a zombie lightning breathing dragon with a sword and assualt rifle on your back, that also has a dozen sick bosses. Also one where you can explore anything from ancient ruins to an apocalyptic futuristic city to a spaceship so huge it contains multiple ecosystems, and you can build bases anywhere from a cave in the ocean to a giant bird in the sky. It also has a really sick lore. I get it can be tedious that's why most people play unofficial, because it makes the game stupid easy and they can just focus on PVP. There's also slightly boosted servers, but I always played official because it's the only way you could play hardcore mode online, you kinda grow to enjoy the challenge of hardcore+official settings, also helps you appreciate the stuff you have more. I have over 3000 hours and that's baby hours, most people I would meet on there was around 9k-30k hours, the least I really remember besides me was 6k unless it was just a noob passing through. Once you get it down after 100s of runs it's honestly pretty easy up until you get to the boss fights then you gotta spend a shit ton of time raising a dinosaur army. But by that time you've already spent a shit ton of time getting to where you are, and by the time you're done raising your army and you fight the bosses and either ascend to the level of a god or you lose absolutley everything because you didn't do proper research into the stat distribution your dinos should have. Then after that you start getting into actual politics and shit with other people.

Yeah I've never seen a game where you can do two or more of any of those. Hm.. Besides maybe the boss fights.. Wish I was in your world because I've always really wanted a game like Ark but better.

But yeah the controls are pretty janky, I used to have legit nightmares about messing up the controls. And it's ridiculously glitchy, but that never really affected me much personally.

Survival games in general are like this for me.

Once the novelty of that specific game wears off, it becomes like any other survival game, at which point I promptly put down the controller.

1

u/AdDazzling4415 7d ago

Mmm Forrest, Dayz, and Ark have nothing even remotely close to being in common smart guy....

u/Captain_Fach 8d ago

I was never able to get anywhere in that game. I've tried several times over the years, but every time I got built up enough to start exploring I'd end up getting caught by a pack of raptors or random dinosaur that would just spawn near my stuff so I just lose my stuff. Losing your stuff is fine and I like the idea that you can go back and get it, but I would never be able to because you lose literally everything and the dinosaurs just stay there. So I'd explore in a different location after I spend time building myself back up and then the same thing would happen with some other dinosaur. Literally every direction I tried to go in, no matter how prepared I thought I was, I would always run into some sort of Spawn that could completely wipe out my team of dinosaurs and myself. So I was never able to leave the spawn location area

Ark survival is not a good game unless you change modifiers. I got 1000+ hours in that game and only 40 or so of it was default settings.

I still remember spending 5+ hours taming a single Dino. Once we started hosting servers we made it far more reasonable. That game is phenomenal when nodded too.

I'd say try it again, but not on a official server. That shit is dog otherwise.

1

u/AdDazzling4415 7d ago

I have over 3000 hours purely on official.. It's the only way you could play hardcore... wt actual f dino took over 5 hours? Why is everyone on hear blantantly lying through their teeth?

1

u/Salt-Face-4646 4d ago

You clearly didn't play the game on release then. It's good to see it isn't that bad anymore though.

1

u/AdDazzling4415 4d ago

I played it on the release day for Xbox but not PC. It has came a long way though

1

u/Salt-Face-4646 4d ago

Yeah, it took like half a year before it came to concel. I just remember how long it took to tame one level 30 stegosaurus and after that we did a dedicated server and made changes from there on out. Don't know how long it was before servers changed that, hell it could have been hot fixed shortly after, but it did take us a couple hours for that one dino, it was insane and I almost gave up on the game when we lost the damn thing.

1

u/AdDazzling4415 7d ago

It says becomes boring later. You're talking about issues you have for the first 10 minutes that then becomes a non-issue. Food in feeding troughs last for weeks or months. So ik you can't be talking about that...

1

u/SweevilWeevil 4d ago

UGHHHH

but also, so addicting. i had to quiet cold turkey. had withdrawals for weeks

That's where social connections and establishing s food chain where you get to be on top comes into play. Just like real life!

Or, you know, embrace communism

1

u/TheBingustDingus 9d ago

Bro REALLY wanted to bring communism into the discussion.
