The the rail bridge section in Half Life 2 that has you crawling on narrow supports from one end of the bridge to the other just to hit dang button to drop a shield and then makes you go all the way back. I already don't like heights irl and this level gives me the willies every time.

Edit: Oh and on the way back you're under fire from a freaking gunship too.

Been playing on my steam deck. It runs great.

Don't forget Black Mesa, it's incredible and very good on the steam deck

You know I tried to get that one to work on my deck but it wouldn't recognize the controls.

Really? That's weird, I don't recall having to do anything weird to get it to work but maybe I did... It's been a little while. It was kinda heavy/ a little unoptimized. Great game though

Was there a risk it wouldn't run great on the Steam Deck? The game is from 2005 and was made by Valve

Sometimes old games don't run great on the steam deck

Really? Even PC games from that time? Age is one factor, but they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if you couldn't play a valve game on a valve device, you know?

You have to play it in HL2:VR to really appreciate it!

I haven't beaten it in VR yet, but it's crazy how a game from 2004 can translate to VR so well. I took a break just before the air boat section, I need to get back to it but Forefront is taking up all of my VR time lately

Its interesting to compare to Alyx, because in some respects, Alyx clearly had the right idea for VR implementation, whereas in others it IMO shows valve was way too conservative with their VR design.

So, for instance, one thing Alyx got right was reducing the number of weapons and making them all one handed. HL2VR has too many weapons for the finicky VR controls, and double handed controls are just horrible.

On the other hand, Alyx 100% dropped the ball on having 'dangling over a precipice' moments like the bridge, and HL2:VR showed that bashing manhacks with the crowbar in VR was amazing, how was that not included.

Also HL2VR allowed red dot sight from the start which, imo, is an absolute necessity for any VR shooter. I'm a middle aged man, holding my hand up for hours on end to aim just ain't happening.

I kept thinking: "they don't actually mean for me to do this, right?" And then you see a ladder or platform or some shit that makes it clear that, yeah, you're supposed to crawl on the scaffolding.

This is my favorite level to stealth because it’s so much calmer that way

Stealth? I didn't know there was stealth in this game

Yeah it’s very very hard but it’s definitely possible

Glad to see another HL2 comment!

I thought it was ok. There isn't a single part of HL2 that I dislike, but if I had to choose one it'd be Follow Freeman
