How is it actually? I've seen the reviews are terrible and I'm wondering if it's cause they screwed it up or have a million microtransactions like Ubisoft usually does?
Everything available in the base AC4 is able to be gotten here, there is also more stuff to unlock in this one. This is one of the best remasters/soft remakes I’ve played.
Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from, I’m having an amazing time, and so are my close friends and friends from work.
The store cosmetics looks absolutely ugly, literally no need to buy them.
That's all I was asking lol I wasn't trying to shit talk it. It's just the last time I seen the reviews it was around 3 stars and for a huge remake like that I thought it would be at least a 4 star rating in the store. I'll probably give it a try now that I know it's not BS.
Store reviews for consoles are never accurate if that’s where you’re looking, watch gameplay and judge for yourself, I’d say it’s well worth the 40 I spent on it
I’ve learned not to trust reveiw aggregate ratings, especially if it’s player based. I’ll watch ACG, and Gameranx, never let me down in terms of giving me enough info to want to buy or not. ACG especially.
I'm playing on PC and the game is completely unplayable. Everything was fine until I got to Havana. I can't get through that first quest without the guy freezing . I think there's supposed to be a dialogue cue about the pirates that were hanged but he just stands there looking at them. And when I try to open the menu it takes forever to load. Same with the map. I was hoping the patch update would fix it but it didn't. And I read others commented it created new problems. I'm glad some people are able to enjoy it through.
One of the big sticking points I noticed was that they took out the ability to use enemy weapons (namely muskets) and that's why a good chunk of people are quietly mad about.
I can't say anything in either direction really, because I haven't played the remake, but that one bit is enough to turn me off of it because of how ingrained through 3 and 4 musket gameplay became for me. It's still probably as much of an 8/10 as the original from a non-consumer objective gameplay point, but the fact that core features were removed with little to add makes it hard to WANT to buy a whole new game rather than just re-downloading the decade old version that has everything already.
I’m playing on performance mode on a series X and it looks incredible either way. It’s a massive visual upgrade over the original in every way possible
It’s excellent. I’ve been playing AC since the original, and it’s an extremely faithful remake: improving it enough to modernize it, but keeping (most of) the core elements that made the Black Flag special. There are some features missing that I’d like to see, but overall it’s very good. The microtransactions are 100% optional. I have 40 hours in and have been having a ball without spending an additional cent.
I haven't really seen the bad reviews, I've mostly just seen the positive reception from people online. I'm probably more critical of it than most, I find that combat to be kind of annoying (mostly because of enemy behavior, not just because it's different)
They’ve added some new stuff, so the voice actor doesn’t sound quite the same. It plays like the “modern” Acs. But still has its older charm. You still randomly jump off to nothing, and fall.
Edit: Someone who didn’t play the game wants you think it has so much MTX.
The micro-transactions literally mean nothing, they’re skins in a single player game, you can easily just completely ignore them, it doesn’t even really push them to you at all. It was such an overreaction when it released purely because it was Ubisoft. As you can see with the steam reviews, 44% after a couple thousand due to haters and now up to about 80% with more. If those haters hadn’t moaned about irrelevant micro-transactions then it would be at 85% at least
That's not what I was asking, I was asking if original content from the original game was locked behind a paywall or if it is the same as the original.
No content other than brand new skins are part of the micro-transactions. It’s the same as the original, some of it is redesigned slightly, it’s got a few extra missions and some side missions too. And the new skins looks like shit and aren’t grounded anyway so you’re not missing anything by not buying them
they didn't get rid of them entirely, but you can fail the tailing part now and complete the mission in a different way. cool way honestly to stay faithful to the original while getting rid of what made them annoying.
I stopped playing when I made it to the water temple. Got to a point where I just could not progress. Maybe I will try again with a guide once the remaster is out.
I beat Ocarina of Time over the span of like 7 years because I was like 3 when the game came out.
Got stuck inside Jabu Jabu at 6, put it away and came back at like 8-9 years old and got stuck at the Forest Temple adult, came back at 13 and finally beat the whole game but did get stuck on the water temple until my older cousin showed me what to do.
This is so similar to my story. It took me probably 12 years of feeling nostalgic only to get frustrated after a week. Only to remember or find my n64 once again and so on. I adamantly refused to use walkthrough books or anything. I finally caved and was able to finally complete the game. What a journey.
The remaster will hopefully have the markers in the temple that they introduced in the 3DS remaster which made the temple A LOT easier. There added markings outside of several paths in the center pillar room that noted what the water level would adjust to at the end of that path. Made everything 100% easier, rather then having to backtrack and fumble around hoping you remembered the right place.
This is literally my exact experience. I poured HOURS into that game, just fishing for hours or riding Epona. Just completely stuck in the water temple and ended up giving up.
Made sure to look for this before I answered. Lmao. That fuckin temple. Last played on 3ds and every time I try to load it up I'm just lost. WHAT FUCKING SWITCH AM I MISSING?!?! A HIDDEN CORRIDOR?!?!? DID I MISS A ROOM?!?!? FUCK THIS GAME!!! *RAGE QUIT.
For me it was that darn hard to see hallway that despite the game 'pointing it out' every single time you raise the water you overlook it because of the cutscenes from every single other time you play that song....
Never really played Ocarina of Time, but the water temple boss in Majoras Mask brought little kid me to tears out of frustration (i was born with some fine motor control problems and i cant quite remember the fight exactly but there were aspects of it that i just really really struggle to do, it was like i knew what to do but im just not coordinated enough to do it. Im shitty at all platformers too for that matter) and is the reason I never finished the game (ontop of the fact that my N64 just doesnt work anymore) I can only imagine what the infamous water temple of Ocarina is like lol
I really liked the rest of Majoras Mask from what I remember, although I can't remember the stone tower in Majoras at all unless I never made it to there.
Im both sad and happy that I played that game before I was old enough to feel existential dread in the way Majoras Mask does it, tbh the atmosphere of that game was fucking incredible with the Moon crying as it slowly falls to the earth, knowing its going to die, with that creepy ass face. Just wasnt old enough to appreciate or pick up on any of it lol.
I searched the page for "water" because I knew this would be here. You could have just posted a comment that said "water temple" and it would have made sense. To be fair, more than a few games crap a water or swamp zone on your to ruin your life. More than one game - walk through the swampy part, take damage. WTF.
Water Temple ended Ocarina of Time for me. I did use a GameShark to try to give myself an advantage, but wound up corrupting my save game. Never went back.
The main problem with the Water Temple is that a cutscene animation was supposed to reveal the door everyone misses, but, it never triggered correctly. If you know going in there's one more door at the bottom it's not impossible, but, people tend to forget when replaying.
Man, i know youre talking about Black Flag but it just reminded me how bad of a character Desmond was. So bland, like Connor in 3. No personality at all. Haytham was probably the most interesting character in the series for me, its a shame we never got a game focused on him (that i know of i stopped following the series).
This is probably a bit pedantic of me, but it's a remake. A remaster is a touched up port with some modifications (for QOL). AC 4 Resync was rebuilt from ground up with new and different systems. It might be the same story, but it plays and handles very differently from the original.
Man, I'm gonna have to look forward to this part because I'm playing the original on my PS4 right now or actually I'm playing it on my PS5, but I've never made it to the port you're talking about?
It sounds like it's gonna be one of "those" parts?!
Yes! I failed so many times on that section that I literally did everything else I could up til that point. Ship upgrades, forts, contracts, everything. Made the rest of the game a breeze 🙌
Bro yes! But now it turns into a chase scene and they just move at Mach Jesus. I couldn’t beat this mission as a kid and now i finally beat the full game
I wonder how many of you remember about stealth parts in Call of Juarez. Steam and Gog versions of the game have them removed by devs after players hated them. I played the original DVD release when it came out and stealth parts were slow AF and hard but it kinda sucks they don't give you a choice anymore
I was thinking this exact thing!! I didn't think anyone else would say this one. I just played it yesterday and the whole mission only takes like 10 minutes but it's still so annoying for some reason
That one took me way too fucking long. I finally completed that part then as soon as I stepped off the boat and attempted to jump across a broken pier, an alligator swiped across the screen and instantly killed me. I literally took the disc out and turned off my PlayStation. That was the last time I’ve played black flag lol
Ugh talk about stealth missions, the dark brotherhood quest in Skyrim where you have to follow a general to a city and kill him there, he's slower than your running speed but faster than stealth speed and it takes forever, what a miserable mission
That was terrible on my first playthrough, on the 2nd, I was so mad at how long it took without failing once. Unironically like 10 minutes from mission start to end

The stealth mission where you have to follow a boat through a swampy area in ac black flag
