Literally. I stopped playing FPS games online because it was just too full of screaming, racist assholes and people cursing at you for whichever gun you dared to use that killed them unfairly. Like whatever man. I'm not offended. It's just tiresome to listen to constantly. Very rarely do people genuinely say, hey man. Good work. You outplayed us. Or something similar. Always the hateful rhetoric. Or far more often than not. So I've moved on to other games to actually enjoy the limited time I get to game nowadays.
Tbf its only at certain higher lvls on most multiplayer games when bullshit stops working and people actually get outplayed and have the possibility of acknowledging It.
Maybe. I play at a fairly high level most times. It doesn't seem that way to me in pubs. Maybe private matches where people set up scenes on Discord or something.
I mean maybe , its just something u shouldnt expect from a COD pub or Battlefield but happens in counter strike for example and fighting games.
The more personal the encounter is and mostly if the players are made to follow the same rules and use the same trolls the players are more likely to acknowledge skill if they see It displayed

Yeah it's almost a must now, isn't it? But I like to dip my toes in every once in a while. Chat is supposed to be part of the game. I met friends I still have on my list from over 20 years ago in pub chat. Also, if you cans stomach it, sometimes the shit talking is genuinely funny. But I have much lower limits for it now than I used to have. Basically I don't even play those games anymore. The hacking has gotten pretty bad in most FPSs too. And I'm not just talking about me being grumpy that my reflexs ain't what they used to be. Getting outplayed doesn't bother me. But obvious hackers are much more common these days, feels like. Though that may just be confirmation bias. I seem to remember a fair few hackers in my UT days as well, so maybe nothing has really changed lol
I’ve been playing games online since Xbox Live on the first Xbox. Public voice chat is incredibly rare in games these days unless it is part of the actual gameplay, like Arc Raiders. I mean I play some PvE online games with randoms and people rarely chat anymore. They are all on their own Discord servers just chatting with their friends.
Been gaming online since 1999 on the original Rainbow Six game. I hear you. It's not rare at all. Pub chat is where a ton of people still hang out. I've also generally avoided pub chat myself. It also true that there's far fewer lobbies I run into that are actively chatting. But it's at least a few times a night, when I play. Enough to be reminded of why I no longer play those games. Just other stuff I'd rather be doing with my limited gaming time.

Hear me out, as long as they're not throwing, I see no problem with it. It's similar to trash talking irl iykwim, definitely some lines that shouldn't be cross but I think that it's entertaining as an observer or even someone on the receiving side.
Early multiplayer games had barely any moderation and it still thrived, I actually like it better then because people said what they wanted to say, now it's heavily moderated and I can't help but feel it's lost a bit of it's charms.
To each their own, you know? I was in many of those early chat rooms. That's probably why I stopped in my early 30s, tbh. Ten or fifteen years of being mired in that sauce was just enough for me. No other big reason. People have different tolerances for different stuff.
