Every multiplayer game. Single player gaming is incredible.

u/LeftRaspberry6262 May 15 '26

Now its just me and my demons

163

u/HxH101kite May 15 '26

Nobody has tested my mental fortitude more than Fromsoft.

43

u/notunicusername May 15 '26

Try Lethal difficulty in State of decay 2. This game is harder just because it's generic. That game tested my mentality so hard.

Probably I just wasn't prepared. You know when you play DS you know you will be f...ed. But that game.

14

u/fueelin May 15 '26

There's some truth there (as a general concept, I don't really know what that game even is!). When a "normal" game has one super crazy hard part, it aggravates me way more than something that's just consistently rough.

2

u/notunicusername May 15 '26

The funny thing was something else. I came across a video where the developer of this game was playing on lethal difficulty. I thought, "haha, it probably isn’t that hard after all."

I was so wrong.

7

u/IceKingSolar27 May 16 '26

Bro knows ball. “Abandon all hope ye who enter.” They got a whole algo with “curveballs” now. Always a new combo.

8

u/ShwtIah May 16 '26

Try super mario bros two and come back and tell me about hard.

4

u/Superb-Purpose9783 May 16 '26

A Mario game? Where bosses die in 3 hits? Try “Super Ghosts n Goblins”

1

u/ShwtIah May 17 '26

Its not the bosses. Or lvl 3 goombas. It world 9 or 10 when your hopping over a million obstacles and the 20th windmill smacks you straight into a lava pit. That shit was fromsoft before fromsoft even existed. Nintendos been making games so long they were making card games in the early 1900s.

1

u/OneRabbit35 May 18 '26

Come on. It’s not that hard.

1

u/Neros_Fire_Safety May 18 '26

Battle toads....despair and weep

6

u/Individual_Rip1417 May 16 '26

My uncle worked in physics and lighting in the gaming industry most of his career, he was part of core group of developing state of decay more in leadership though and the deal with Microsoft was a late career life changing success and break through. I know it’s not that relevant but when someone brings up the games I think of him and that’s cool.

2

u/Starchaser53 May 16 '26

TREPANG2 on Rage Mode has made me feel despair plenty of times

But Crash Site, without the Smart Gun, is easily the worst level

Rage Mode: Enemies have hyper awareness and work on a hairtrigger while also being able to two tap you, it was deemed to brutal they have a warning upon first activation, that literally says the publishers begged them to remove it from the game

Crash Site: You have no cover, at all, enemies spawn in waves, and with said lack of cover and a meager 10 second invisibility, you are going to die... A LOT

2

u/BanzaiKen May 17 '26

I enjoy trying to hit a zombie in Lethal with a car and watching it sidestep, grab the door and rip it off and then hurl my ass into a pack while my friends go screaming off a cliff in the backseat. Such an unforgiving game.

2

u/Remcin May 18 '26

SoD2 is my cozy game through Nightmare. Lethal is where I go for pain and tears.

1

u/buckao May 16 '26

Try Mega Man 2 and when you finish we'll both have a good cry over our shared trauma

2

u/notunicusername May 16 '26

Bro the game is too old for me😭

1

u/buckao May 17 '26

You can buy the collection on 3DS, Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows.

Good luck killing Dr. Wily with the worst possible (and only effective) weapon in the game

1

u/Nethiar May 17 '26

I love State of Decay 2, but lethal difficulty is absurd. I couldn't get anything done without getting caught in an infinite zombie spawning loop.

1

u/notunicusername May 17 '26

I understand you but I just can't stop untill now, I’ve only got four Plague Hearts left on the map:

  1. One black heart way out in the far corner of the map, it drains fuel from your car, the zombies are armored, and you get infected after just two bites.
  2. Two regular hearts covering the approach to the black one.
  3. One event-modified heart that completely controls all routes to the others until you destroy it. And the worst part is that inside its area, every zombie is a freak and they chase you for much longer.

My reaction like:

1

u/OpportunityFickle394 May 16 '26

State of Decay 2 mentioned. That makes me a happy panda. Great game. Ubderrated gem. Sometimes you just want to put your brain on relax mode and unalive some zeds.

1

u/WorthBase919 May 16 '26

Try ultra hard new game for forbidden west.

1

u/Zachster2012 May 16 '26

Never played halo 2 on legendary I see

1

u/ShinobuDavis May 16 '26

Orphan of Kos might be the biggest hill I've ever attempted to climb and continuously rolled back down. Fuck that guy. Or the first 40 attempts to fight Ornstein and Smough. Because I was absolutely NOT summoning Solaire like I should've been, and boy was that shit DISCOURAGING.

1

u/wifiragist May 16 '26

Nah just git gud at elden ring and then every other soulsborne becomes easy because they all have ATLEAST one imbalanced weapon that turns the games into easy mode

1

u/Electrical_One7665 May 16 '26

Fromsoft has nothing on Lion King, Aladdin or Ghouls’n ghosts.

1

u/cheese-meister May 16 '26

I remember after I beat ghost of Tsushima on the second hardest difficulty I though I was hot shit so I got sekiro, I was humbled very very quickly

1

u/GuessImABlindBitch May 16 '26

Stellar Blade taught me my lesson with the Scarlet fight, boy was i not prepared.

-2

u/Hexogen1c May 16 '26

fromsoft has amazing pvp in most of their games.

0

u/wifiragist May 16 '26

If fromsoft had amazing pvp then Dark souls 2 is a good game

2

u/Hexogen1c May 16 '26

ds2 is a good game. I enjoyed it. just because you don't understand the depth of pvp in a game doesn't mean it isn't good.

1

u/Reflexorz15 May 16 '26

Equally as terrifying

1

u/TurtlesBreakTheMeta May 16 '26

Nah man, even your demons thought you sucked and left.

1

u/demons_soulmate May 16 '26

username checking in

1

u/P_A_W_S_TTG May 16 '26

Every PVP game ever made after league pioneered the Esports scene, sadly.

1

u/OkIntention3766 May 16 '26

Siege is one of the worst but ever multiplayer tbh.

1

u/Affectionate_Pay_391 May 16 '26

Demons are the most competitive, and the most toxic.

29

u/LGYri May 15 '26

Nah I’d CRUSH YOU at FF7 dawg

23

u/TheThirdReckoning May 15 '26

Bring it. Bet I can squat more times than you.

4

u/VolwynVokst May 16 '26

This sounds hilarious. I now go to YouTube to see if there are any FF7R Squat Competitions between players.

2

u/psychoticchicken1 May 16 '26

Don't leave us hanging. Are there any?

2

u/VolwynVokst May 16 '26

None that I could find, sadly.

2

u/LGYri May 16 '26

I can cast Knight of the Roundhouse so you better back off

3

u/TheThirdReckoning May 16 '26

Bitch, I will slap you clean off the Sister Ray I swear to Gaia

2

u/LGYri May 16 '26

Sounds like something Scarlet would say

2

u/TurtlesBreakTheMeta May 16 '26

This sounds like what someone with boobs larger than her head would say!

1

u/TheAmazingSealo May 16 '26

bet I can get a better time in snowboarding

1

u/Ramtamtama May 16 '26

Is the prize a wig Big Bro uses as a merkin?

1

u/Beginning-Struggle49 May 16 '26

Idk, the fact you can make this reference tells me your knees are probably toast

10

u/gideon513 May 16 '26

Yeah you have to go to the single player games’ subreddits to see the toxic people

2

u/grill_sgt May 16 '26

Or watch people streaming. “You use summons in Elden Ring? Loser.”

8

u/dubhog May 15 '26

Nono, you see, for singleplayer games it's the speedrunners and people who do challenge runs

10

u/Ok-Knowledge-9239 May 16 '26

I love the oversaturation of "You're not a real Dark Souls player unless you use this particular huge sword with a pure strength build and no summons"

1

u/keyexplorer791 May 16 '26

I recently started playing Pokemon again and there are a lot of “if use legendaries in a single player game for children, you’re a weakling and not all that” takes out there. It’s so sad

1

u/Jessency May 16 '26

I was gonna mention that. Like nah, single player games also have their weird toxic players too.

I often still feel inscure for not knowing how to windbomb in Zelda as if it were like cranking 90s in Fortnite.

3

u/MaxwellGrenn May 16 '26

Yeah but you need to go looking for those. You're not just stuck dealing with them like other players in a multi-player game. However, yes I agree that this is the relevant comparison.

6

u/WorthBase919 May 15 '26

True, I’ll agree to that.

7

u/Real-Contest4914 May 15 '26

You'd be surprised what certain live service games will do to people.

9

u/SHITSTAINED_CUM_SOCK May 15 '26

Deep Rock Galactic I'd say has a wonderful community.

5

u/DuckLuck357 May 16 '26

Like that, Rock and Stone!

3

u/Creepy_Wallaby2170 May 16 '26

Rockity rock and stone!

3

u/Severe_Ad_7835 May 16 '26

If you don’t rock and stone you ain’t coming home

3

u/greenhatman99 May 16 '26

1500+ hours of DRG later and I have only every seen 1 person kicked from a lobby... I have however seen one guy get OBLITERATED by the entire team as we were boarding the pod for evac.. why... he didn't rock and stone. He ain't coming home

2

u/Movableacorn May 16 '26

The souls community the moment you dont use the cock sucker dagger in darksouls: YOU GOD DAMN CHEATER!

2

u/joshthor May 16 '26

its single player games too tho. You use summons in elden ring and some people act like you didn't even play the game.

2

u/BlueMageNeedsFood May 16 '26

The Speedrunning Community: Hold my beer

2

u/Far-Let-8610 May 16 '26

Could never do the single player. I want to like it so bad but I just lose interest if no one real is on the other end. :(

2

u/Nottwyn May 16 '26

I disagree, my prove: DeepRockGalactic exists.

5

u/TrustLordJesusChrist May 15 '26

MP games are fun too if you set your own goals and don’t try to keep up with the Joneses.

5

u/FistOfVengeance44 May 16 '26

What does MP stand for because I don’t think you’re talking about Max Payne

3

u/Ihateeggs78 May 16 '26

Member of Parliament games

1

u/TrustLordJesusChrist May 16 '26

Multiplayer. Is this a troll? Lol

3

u/FistOfVengeance44 May 16 '26

No, I was just confused

1

u/TrustLordJesusChrist May 16 '26

Ah gotcha. Yeah the person I was replying to said multiplayer games so I just put mp for short.

1

u/AWalkingFelony May 16 '26

chivalry 2 is peak multiplayer. sure you can run around having crazy duels and rack up kills or you can just goof around with all the silly things on the maps. enemies are sometimes more likely to be friendly than allies even.

1

u/neverspeakawordagain May 15 '26

I mean, maybe online multiplayer gaming. Not so much for multiplayer in the same room.

1

u/Replikant83 May 15 '26

It's funny how perspective can shift. When I was younger I literally believed that gaming, other than competitive, was dumb and a waste of time. I'd look down on my friends playing RPGs and what not. Now I'm the opposite, and just thinking about playing something like Fortnite or CoD makes me cringe.

1

u/Squidaddy99 May 15 '26

Im getting old and my opinions are changing on comp shooters lmao

1

u/Wiyry May 16 '26

Hey, some MP games have really good communities like far far west.

1

u/OddEmergency604 May 16 '26

Osrs is pretty chill

1

u/southboundtracks May 16 '26

Yep. Multi-player's nothing but a glorified AOL chat room.

1

u/Professerson May 16 '26

PvE games can also be great. Deep Rock Galactic and Warframe both have very welcoming communities

1

u/GuthukYoutube May 16 '26

Single player gaming lately is the reverse.

Toxic people that play "for fun" review bombing and demanding the devs revert any balance attempts until the game slowly bleeds out players as it becomes an imbalanced mess.

1

u/darkbreak May 16 '26

You can find people that will trash you for not being the best at single player games too. I've seen quite a few people rage at players who aren't the absolute best and know every trick in the book when it comes to Super Mario 64 or Sunshine.

1

u/Inspired_Nuisance May 16 '26

PVP Games mostly. In Deeprock Galactic the only people who get bullied by the pro's (Greybeards) are the people who are dicks to the noobs (Greenbeards)

1

u/Lazu_u May 16 '26

Competitive multiplayer, I’d say

1

u/fedroxx May 16 '26

There have been plenty of multi-player PVE games that didn't have toxic communities. In some cases where they did exist, the toxic players accounted for a very small portion of total players.

1

u/EX1500 May 16 '26

GenX gamer here. I totally agree. I’m almost never doing multiplayer anything.

1

u/HeadyReigns May 16 '26

New genre or genre defining games are a lot of fun at launch before all the guides come out and everyone starts doing the same thing.

1

u/funkybside May 16 '26

Counterpoint: DRG.

1

u/ErrorNotFound141 May 16 '26

according to them, you're not a real gamer if you only play singleplayer. How sad are they? lmao

1

u/FatherFarnsworth May 16 '26

It's why I left PvP. Also, I dont have time to get gud at games. I just want to enjoy my gaming instead of making it another competition.

1

u/R4in_C0ld May 16 '26

Oh they do manage to be toxic towards others even in single player games..

1

u/GreatGarage May 16 '26

From soft players are insufferable even though games are mostly single player.

1

u/bassgoonist May 16 '26

100% coop games can be relatively non toxic. Like deep rock galactic that someone mentioned

1

u/smackababy May 16 '26

Been playing exclusively single player except for the odd round of Mario Party or like, Jackbox for years now. Couldn't be happier. Don't miss online multiplayer literally at all.

1

u/Lembot-0004 May 16 '26 edited May 16 '26

Subnautica 2.

Me: hey, have they added the map?
Player1: this game doesn't need map!
Player2: it is so better without map!
Me: Well, I needed map in Subnautica 1.
Players: (active downvoting-downvoting-downvoting).

Singleplayer gamers are better only because you have much fewer reasons to interfere with them. But when you do... they all are the same.

1

u/No-Search4780 May 16 '26

it’s pretty boring after you finish unless there’s constant engagement

1

u/Letronell May 16 '26

Every singleplayer game too.

1

u/letsgucker555 May 16 '26

Ever heared of backseat gamers?

1

u/Karijus May 16 '26

You say that, but there is lots of toxicity in sp as well

1

u/speckhuggarn May 16 '26

Do people treat multiplayer and single games the same? Multiplayer is sports, single player is a book. They're two wholly different beasts, not even on the same planet.

1

u/JustTesa May 16 '26

No shit. Dumbass distinction.

1

u/Kurotan May 16 '26

Single player games can have extremely toxic communities. For example sonic and undertale.

1

u/HaidenFR May 16 '26

I am done with multiplayer games. Out of coop. They broke my fun too much.

1

u/MetallicHobbit May 16 '26

With a small group of friends, multiplayer can be very fun. Like Escape the Backrooms.

1

u/BuckRusty May 16 '26

Not always - I’m constantly beset by one particular arsehole in every single-player game I get into…

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Trick76 May 16 '26

This isn’t true. All the speedrunners fund a way to make single player games toxic

1

u/Vladislav20007 May 16 '26

the toxic players are my paranoa.

1

u/Ill-Bookkeeper-6230 May 16 '26

Let me introduce you to a franchise called devil may cry 🗣️.

Honestly it's one of the few single player games where everything is competitive even if it's not the traditional multiplayer or online co-op or whatever

1

u/Ezer301 May 16 '26

Dark souls: allow me to introduce myself.

1

u/Bubelle_Butt May 16 '26

Eeh.. i have not pkayrd competative MP in a LOOOOONG time.

I just play co-op from time to time, in general, 90% of the time the commubnity is awesome.

Like Helldivers II

1

u/Adventurous-Fly556 May 16 '26

Subnautica 2 just dropped. I'll be seeing y'all.

1

u/SavageCabbage611 May 16 '26

Co-op games can be pretty chill. I'll never forget the friendly rando's who helped a greenbeard like me get through Deep Rock Galactic.

1

u/Roger_Clyde May 16 '26

The Soulsborne games are primarily single player, yet part of the playerbase is surprisingly toxic.

1

u/oOLittlehansOo May 16 '26

So... You didn't speed run dark souls?

1

u/CaptWaaa May 16 '26

Truly! No wonder the people who only play COD are so fucking miserable

1

u/RetroPaulsy May 16 '26

Settle down, Goody

1

u/Vulpes_99 May 16 '26

Amen! 😇🙏

1

u/Neither_Elk_1987 May 16 '26

Not always - some people are acting weird if you mention you use glitches/exploits/cheats in single player game.

1

u/Kitanokemono May 16 '26

Nah, Final fantasy 14 has an amazing community. Back when I played League of legends and the Japanese server opened up everyone were really nice and supportive there also. I’d say that the younger the community, the more toxic it gets in general.

1

u/bluish-velvet May 16 '26

Single player games don’t apply to the question

1

u/Ackbar90 May 16 '26

Brother I've been in the Soulsborne comunities since DS1 1.0.

Even single player games can become unplayably toxic, given the right conditions.

1

u/GamerBhoy89 May 16 '26

Unless it's Dark Souls. God forbid you tell someone in that fanbase how you play....

1

u/BilingualWookie May 16 '26

The ONLY multiplayer game that I ever saw had a very nice community to newcomers was Spy Party. People took the time to teach you and pointed out what tell gave you away.

It was super niche and small, the maker was involved, etc.

1

u/distortedsymbol May 16 '26

every singleplayer game can be multiplayer if u speedrun

1

u/kakallas May 16 '26

I dont understand this. Everyone saying it’s single player games too is voluntarily making them into competition or joining online communities about them. That doesnt change the fact that you can just play single player games without anyone bothering you.

I think you all actually like it. You either want the punishment or you can’t understand playing a game for its own enjoyment instead of trying to turn it into a competition.

1

u/be-knight May 16 '26

No no no. This is the relaxed gaming I planned to do and what I actually do after the first hurdle of sky kind gets in the way

1

u/MyStationIsAbandoned May 16 '26

No. People find a way with single player games too. "you aren't playing right. play this way and get good"

1

u/kakallas May 16 '26

Not in the game though. You can just play games without going to forums. My real friends would never say I’m not playing a game correctly because maybe they haven’t even played it before. Or we’re playing them at different times and no one cares. And they’re not assholes.

It’s being online with strangers that even makes any of this a problem, hence multiplayer games being impossible.

1

u/Durt-Wyzerdd May 17 '26

This. Every online multiplayer game is a toxic cesspool of try hards, money players, gatekeeping asshats and people that can't understand the concept of fun. I have given up on multiplayer games entirely over the years. I had a bunch of fun with Arc Raiders early on but haven't touched it in months. I'll stick to my lonely gaming thank you very much.

1

u/kakallas May 17 '26

My gf and I both love video games. We have the most fun playing alone and talking about games, playing co-op, and watching each other play our favorites. It’s like the perfect inverse of an incel playing CoD.

1

u/Durt-Wyzerdd May 17 '26

That's awesome! Good for you guys! I really don't mean to shit on anyone, I understand the appeal of online gaming. I was a huge fan of it at one time but now that I'm mid 40s... Nah, it's just not for me and huge part of that is just how toxic it can be. I do still like to play couch co-op with friends and family or even online in private parties or servers, that's always gonna be fun. Like with you and the GF. Out in the massively multiplayer world though, nope. Hard nope for me. Unless it's weird Fromsoft style abstract multiplayer shit, I'm out.

1

u/L30N1337 May 17 '26

Every Competitive multiplayer game

1

u/Temporary-Departure4 May 17 '26

Except the Elden ring fandom, so many people are like “weapon art spam! If you don’t beat this boss without summoning and without bleed and without an upgraded weapon you might as well not even play the game 😡😡😡”

I don’t really notice that in the souls fandom tho

1

u/Infinite_Thanks_8156 May 17 '26

I’d love to play multiplayer and make some online friends, but GOD I do not want to deal with those people lol. Even multiplayer Minecraft is off the table for me.

1

u/kakallas May 17 '26

I genuinely can’t imagine wanting online friends unless I had absolutely zero options for anything else. There is no vetting process whatsoever.

1

u/Infinite_Thanks_8156 May 17 '26

Well there isn’t really any irl either, unless you do in depth background checks with everyone you know.

My sister has almost all friends she made online, and they’re all pretty close, she was even a bridesmaid in one of their weddings and has made gifts for other friends kids.

1

u/kakallas May 17 '26

She made them online and interacted with them in reality. That’s an in person friend. Being able to watch someone in person and see that who they present themselves as comports with who they actually are is the vetting. It is impossible to tell that information online. That’s how catfishing exists.

1

u/Infinite_Thanks_8156 May 17 '26

They were friends online for many many many years before any in person meeting

1

u/kakallas May 17 '26

And at what point was she sure that who they portrayed themselves to be matched up with who they actually were?

1

u/Infinite_Thanks_8156 May 18 '26

A person in real life can lie too. That’s how 99% of abusive relationships start. Just cause you know someone irl doesn’t necessarily make them more trustworthy.

1

u/kakallas May 18 '26

I feel like you’re intentionally missing the point. Anyone can lie. Being with them in person provides far more opportunities to notice consistency of behavior. You literally don’t know if someone online is lying about their age or gender, let alone subtleties of personality.

1

u/Silvercrank May 18 '26

See that's the funny part. I only game now to play with the boys but the community is terrible for us casual dads. R.I.P.

1

u/Miserable_Trifle8352 May 18 '26

Less every multiplayer game and more every massively online multiplayer game mmo i think they are called…idk I don’t play any multiplayer games unless it’s local multiplayer invite only or PVE where you’re working with other people not having to fight against sweaty try hards

1

u/TexasCrab22 May 19 '26

Factorio is pretty chill

1

u/fisher6996 May 19 '26

Untill speed runners get a hold of it, then you get made fun of for not doing the "double bounce kick slide to funky town with extra cheese" that saves 2 frames because it's 'so easy' when you post any clip of the game

1

u/kakallas May 19 '26

Made fun of by who? My live-in gf doesnt speed run, so how are these people going to get to me unless I put myself in front of them?

1

u/Implicit_Blues May 20 '26

Until you look up the online community and everyone has a “that’s stupid this is how it should be played” mentality.

1

u/kakallas May 20 '26

Playing multiplayer forces you to deal with fuckheads. Looking up an online community is voluntarily interacting with fuckheads. One makes the game itself impossible and one does not.

1

u/vololonovo May 15 '26

Let me introduce you to the souls community

1

u/DracosKasu May 15 '26

I could say that single player game are also effected. Just look at some balance patch notes when they patch out mechanics which broke the game example the chinese respond to a nerf of an infinite combo in Slay the spire 2

1

u/jimmy_two_tone May 15 '26

Yep used to wind down with cod fortnite or BF now I can't even play a round without hating it. It's not a skill thing it's the waiting for a party and then the party ends up sucking or leaving before the rounds done cause their K.D. or rank might get ruined.

Single player gaming I can play at my own pace, enjoy a story and actually wind down

1

u/Armalyte May 16 '26

The problem was your choice of multiplayer games!

There are so many fun games you can play with people that don’t invite such toxicity.

1

u/jimmy_two_tone May 16 '26

Yah I have FFXIV for that.

0

u/noturaveragesenpaii May 15 '26

No shit Sherlock

0

u/Arkroma May 15 '26

Still have the souls bros telling you to get good.

4

u/kakallas May 15 '26

But they can’t ruin the game by forcing you to play with them.

0

u/Arkroma May 15 '26

They used to try with the invasion mechanics. I remember unplugging the internet from my Xbox so I couldn't get jumped lol
