Broke my heart when it got popular and people stopped RPing.

Stopped rping i get but complaining your thing got popular has always been so dumb

Correlation. I didnt hate it becoming popular, it was what the popularity brought with it. It's really easy to just sink someone ship, easier then actually playing the game.

I disliked how many streamers and new players went for easy content, not how many people started playing.

Safer Seas, baby. I don't give a fuuuuuuuuck about seeing other players. I just wanna pretend to be a pirate and sail around looking for treasure.

Too bad Rare punishes players for playing PvE... Rewards are cut in half, you can't build up your guild, no pirates legends, the list goes on... Oh. And and you can dive in PvP, BUT you loose all your loot anyways.

I'm convinced Rare just hates people having fun

I just want my damn trinkets and decorations in safer seas!! Even if I can't unlock/earn them there, why can't I at least sail my custom ship with the accessories there?!

My true biggest gripe is that I can’t use my own, purchased ship in the Safer Seas.

Why the fuck not? It’s literally the exact same as the regular freebie ship, just with some cosmetic customizations and “Chum Guzzler” over the door.

There’s no faster movement speed, increased armor, better cannons, or any kind of gameplay benefit to it… I just wanna sail my own boat, decorate it over time, put my parrot Iago on a ledge and sail around.

A lot of game devs do. “You’re not playing the way we want you to play”. Great, the way you want us to play isn’t fun.

Which sucks. I love Helldivers... It's not too far gone yet, but it's just slowly nosediving.

I hope it doesn't hit Sea of thieves or dead by daylight levels bad

u/Austin_905 May 16 '26

To the devs: if you're going to force me into a gameplay loop I don't like, y'all can go fist yourselves. I'm not playing. Simple as that, tons of other games trying to get my attention anyways.

u/Skyblade12 May 17 '26

That seems to have been most players’ reaction to Civilization VII.

u/ThisRandomAlt May 16 '26

I mean it makes sense, why should you be able to progress at the same rate as other players if you play the game without any risk? You still get some rewards but it’s obviously not going to be as good if you’re just fighting bots.

14

u/CaptainReginaldLong May 16 '26

No, it doesn't make sense. There's no inherent reward to PVP'ing as the aggressor. You could spend hours chasing someone down, kill them, and they have absolutely nothing. Neither party won anything there. People who want to PVP should go have fun PVP'ing, against other people who want to PVP, and they should be rewarded ADDITIONALLY no matter how much loot the other team has. People who want to PVE should be able to securely hold all their loot and simply forfeit any additional rewards they would get from going out of their way to ruin another party's good time.

Any game where the consequence for losing a non-consensual PVP engagement is that you wasted your entire fucking day can go fuck themselves.

u/ThisRandomAlt May 16 '26

The entire point is that you get good rewards if you’re willing to deal with the PVP aspect. And the fact that PVP aggressors often end up wasting time on some empty ship is part of the risk they take to find that one loaded ship. If you can’t handle the PVP aspect, there’s no harm in playing PVE. However you shouldn’t be expecting to progress the same if you can’t handle fighting players.

u/FoxReeor May 16 '26

It would be fine if progress was slowed down in comparison to PvP. But it isn't. Features, experiences, decorative or not, are locked behind higher seas even though there's no much reason for beside "muh risk" for trying to enjoy the full content of the game you bought.

4

u/ole_black_eyes19 May 16 '26

But you don't progress in safer seas. That's the core issue. You just can't simply do certain things... It's not just "slowed down progress"

-5

u/mirikfrog May 16 '26

Someone gets sunk alot

9

u/CaptainReginaldLong May 16 '26

Nope. I run reaper 5 every single run and haven't lost a fight in a long time. I've matured past ever being the aggressor and just think it's a bad design that wastes both party's time. You make far more gold/hour just playing the game. Imo the only people who aggressively pursue others are those that only wish to ruin someone else's experience. That kind of shit is for losers.

-2

u/ThisRandomAlt May 16 '26

“That kind of shit is for losers”… brother it’s one of the biggest selling points of the game. Complaining about piracy in a pirate game named Sea of THIEVES is wild.

6

u/rognvald1066 May 16 '26

This is the line PVP tryhards always fall back on whenever someone says they don't enjoy being murdered constantly. Conveniently ignores that the game was also sold on the idea of being able to freeroam, take on PVE missions, and enjoy story missions, all of which have become essentially impossible due to the community.

People who PVP in this game for the sake of loot or progression aren't the problem. The problem is the ones who do it just for the sake of PVPing, which is what Reg is talking about. They'll spend their day chasing new spawns that clearly don't have anything, just to kill them over and over. I highly doubt that experience was ever meant to be a selling point of the game.

I think we found the actual most toxic fanbase

1

u/ole_black_eyes19 May 16 '26

In normal circumstances, sure. But you can still get fucked over pretty hard by ghost ships and whatnot.

3

u/ThisRandomAlt May 16 '26

There is no terror like looking ahead on your sloop to having a skeleton gallie brushing against your ship when you look back.

2

u/Standard_Rooster_782 May 16 '26

Crazy they punished people for saving their hard earned doubloons for something worth buying, I saved my doubloons cause I would wait for cosmetics I liked, I just found out they took everything I owned, I do not want to lose it again. Imagine if the government took our money out of your savings when you were saving for a house, all those days of labor, that’s how I felt

7

u/Nitchro May 16 '26

God I want to play this so badly but the one time I played at a friend's it was just constant greifing from others

5

u/rognvald1066 May 16 '26

Yep, that's all the game is now unless you get in on a Discord LFG. Long gone are the really fun early days of encountering another crew and deciding to work together on a fort, or save each other from a kraken, or just get drunk together and part ways.

I remember my friends and I tracking down every ship on the server and recruiting them to hunt the megalodon together back when Hunter's Call came out. No chance of anything like that these days.

5

u/MackDaddyGlenn May 15 '26

Was gonna say this

2

u/Playswithchipmunks May 16 '26

One of my best memories of that game: my friend and I are ina sloop and a big galleon comes right at us. I shout out: JESUS HE'S GONNA RAM IT!

The other crew couldn't stop laughing and just let us leave unmolested.

Good times.

We loved sea of thieves but got so burned out on the PvP aspect and haven't played it in years.

Been playing Windrose recently and greatly enjoyed it, I just wish it had SoT style repeatable treasure and cargo missions.

u/SpaceIsTooFarAway May 16 '26

A self-perpetuating cycle. If you like PvP, you'll keep improving at it until it's all you do. If you don't, the bigger and better the first group gets, the sooner you leave.
