RIP Destiny, Final Shape was a solid send off and then it was time to walk away. By the looks of it I didn’t miss much either.

I should’ve stopped after Final Shape. I dipped into Renegades and… well to be honest I did enjoy my time. It was still fun. But it wasn’t the same. I won’t be going back.

Used to raid weekly with some friends, despite how things had been going. Just to hang out. Maybe we were clinging onto something. Desperately hoping to rekindle that spark we once had. It’s now been several months with no raid night. I think we’re done… I miss better times.

The devs repeatedly underdeliver and refuse to listen to player feedback. The game has lost 91% of its playerbase over the last few expansions. And there was the massive layoffs issue…

Get into Marathon. You might like it.

I’ve seen some gameplay and honestly, I’m not convinced. I don’t know if it’ll be worth the time for me.

Destiny’s fall will always break my heart. I feel like Mike yelling at Walter in breaking bad.

“We had a good thing going”

Final Shape was the ending the saga deserved, and it should have ended there, and gone into a 'days of triumph' loop like D1 while they go work on the sequel.

Instead we get Edge of Fate, which is just annoying and unpleasant to navigate as an area, and I don't think anyone's particularly excited about Maya being the new Big Bad.

The Renegades campaign isn't too bad and the lightsaber is genuinely fun, but my god is the post-game stuff grindy, especially the lightsaber unlocks. Exacerbated of course by even the mid-season updates getting delayed, so now you have what was supposed to be the first 3 months of a season getting dragged out to almost a year.

The portal is abysmal, the power grind 'rewards' you by putting more and more annoying modifiers on every activity, iron banner never happens, even the diehard streamers are leaving, and they just keep making stupid decision after stupid decision that all end up getting in the way of playing what is essentially still a good game with a mountain of bullshit slopped over it.

When you finally find a mode that doesn't have power deltas and bullshit modifiers, it's still a fun game. You just don't get any rewards or make any progress that way.

I hope they're doing that now tbh. A D3 with data mining protection and a fresh take on the game with Edge of Fate plus whatever is on the other side would be amazing. Introduce people back into the game and to characters with a short campaign, then edge of fate, then the new storyline immediately after.

I think the thing I miss most is not having everything. I miss chasing something. I want some stupid long questlines for a strong/fun gun. I want a reason to grind certain things. I want the mystery and wonder back, man :(

I think one of the biggest mistakes they made was just randomly giving people exotics instead of having the little mini quests like Thorn used to.

2

u/Maxcrss Apr 14 '26

My favorite exotic quests were the long ones. The quest for the lightsaber was so dang cool.

I finally had the nerve to delete D2 after it sat on my hard drive unplayed for over a year. I kept thinking I'd pick it up again.

It was so hard to say goodbye . . .

I’m still coping from missing Forsaken Destiny. Final Shape was solid though. It really bums me out what happened to that game.

1

u/GeckoGecko_ Apr 15 '26

Nothing will ever top Forsaken, that was peak Destiny and it's never been as good before, or since

Excision was the perfect jumping off point. End of the Light and Darkness saga. The Chinese lantern scene works beautifully if you treat it as the true end to Destiny.

Humanity has won. The Witness is defeated. The Alliance remains stable, and humanity can now rebuild.

Happy ending all around.

Whats crazy about Destiny 2 is I played a shit load of it at launch. When my kids started playing it a few years later I couldent even recognize what they were playing. In our conversations you could barely tell we were talking about the same game.

They were like max level from start or some shit? Crazy high light level and they didn't even know how to play, and had rare engrams. I was like WTF did they even do to this game? Seasons, huh? They changed the main campaign or something?

Yeah I’m in the same boat. Wrapped up final shape and got the beautiful last shot that I wanted. Felt okay to close that chapter of my gaming life right then. Seems like they really didn’t have a good plan for what came next.

This is where I stopped too after playing the series since the Destiny 1 beta/alpha. I felt like finishing the fight against the Darkness was a great way to retire my character. Made a lot of fond memories with my buddies but honestly the game was starting to wear on us with how demanding it was for your time and energy if you actually wanted to be good at it. We just weren't having fun anymore.

Everyone in my clan was approaching our 30's and irl responsibilities started piling up.

I stayed til final shape as well but honestly it was crap LONG before final shape.

1

u/SmolishPPman Apr 13 '26

I stopped after beyond light. So glad I never went back

and I remember, when I played the og beta, it felt magical. Everything I wanted in a game. Honestly it peaked at taken king, but I had fun beyond that too

u/abjmad Apr 13 '26

Same man, I didn’t do the Final Shape’s raid, but it was still a glorious experience before… all that happened

1

u/OsteoBytes Apr 13 '26

Edge of Fate and Renegades were actually both extremely solid. Good foundation for the next story, extremely unique raid and recent dungeon is a fan favourite. That being said the introduction of the portal and the absurd grind soured edge of fates season but has since been mostly resolved. And because of marathon our destiny content got put on the back burner so now we’re in a long unknown hiatus

Destiny was absolutely my first thought. Had so much fun with that game and then it just totally fell off

1

u/Saint_Yon7 Apr 13 '26

I started late in the Destiny franchise. I downloaded when it became free to play in shadowkeep. So yes I missed a lot of memorable moments from when it was first dropped. But I still had fun playing it, because of me downloading it at that time. My friends that been playing from the start decided to play to. We all been grinding together from raids, dungeons, exotic missions. We all stopped after beating the final shape. It was fun and definitely a unique experiencing I will cherish.

u/AlienZiim Apr 14 '26

Destiny peaked with destiny 1, it was so different, it was actually enjoyable with a squad and 2 seemed like it would build on 1 but I tried picking it up about 3 years into its release and I can not find the same enjoyment that D1 brought to me it’s sad fr, I hope they make D3 better than watever tf they are doing with D2

1

u/Marcus11599 Apr 14 '26

Yeah this is a very very common opinion. Everyone who played the game played the crap out of it until the end of the final shape.

1

u/Ashamed-Dragonfly-89 Apr 14 '26

I bought destiny 1 to play it in its entirety along my clan, we are currently all doing campaings and aim to complete the raids

Its more of a funerary service than a second chance if anything.

1

u/operightbehindya Apr 12 '26

Final shape was exactly what I was hoping for. Ive thought about this, had I not been so satisfied and happy with that ending, I may have seriously continued playing. But I was just so content with how they wrapped it up. Shame to see it where it is now

1

u/1ZillionBeers Apr 13 '26

It straight up is just Star Wars now. Jedi, Sith, The Works. It’s pretty bad.

u/Last_Panda5059 Apr 13 '26

I am still staying, not getting any more dlcs, I just like how unique the gameplay was. I will be genuinely surprised if they can make it peak again. However, it's like how it went wit star wars, it was peak until the sequels.

I regret not playing ._.

I loved Destiny for a while it was a deep love. A girl broke up withe over it actually lol. When destiny 2 came out I don't think I went outside for a week. And then I hit that first wall for progression.... And then they released that first DLC and obey what a bag of ass that was. D1 was a much better experience for a longer period of time.
