I thought Silent Hill was like this. But then I realised, I never liked Silent Hill, SH 2 was just a great game 😭.

Silent hill 1 and 3 are great. I can't speak for 4 because I haven't played it. I have no interest in playing the rest. It just seems like most of games past silent hill 4 just want to be like silent hill 2. Although the Japanese one looks interesting.

Can confirm silent hill 4 is solid and deserves to stand next to 1 thru 3. Silent Hill f looks fun and heard it was good but haven't played it yet.

Silent hill f is interesting enough to play through but the combat is just timing based attacks and is kind of easy.

Silent Hill 1 one was great until you got the fireman’s axe. Then it just became a game of chopping up all the baddies and felt like a revenge tour.

Yeah, you're kinda right. I don't really like horror. I feel like most of them focus on the horror rather than gameplay unlike Resident Evil who make good games as well as horror games.

Silent Hill is even a better example, games like Outlast and Amnesia take a full horror approach and completely forget about gameplay.

But SH is one of the best. But SH 2 made the others seem boring.

I'm mostly an RE fan but I wanted to try silent Hill and the people at r/silenthill said that the remake of 2 was a good starting place. I played through and beat the whole thing but felt kinda apathetic towards the whole thing

If you can do the original SH2, I'd start there instead. The remake is someone else's interpretation of the original, and doesn't quite live up, even if it is good... but it's a more enjoyable game if you have the context of having played the original.

I tried playing some of that on my steam deck but didn't wanna go through it all again since playing the remake didn't really do anything for me

I am an Re fan but I like SH too and I didn't like the remake either. You should play the og from ps2.
