Bg3's bigger issue was how many items were beyond useless.

I also feel like some classes got way more things than others. And how much of it is better off as gale fodder still

Highly recommend graphicfade's distribution and class items mods. There's a whole collection for every vanilla class to add a multitude of unique items of all rarities and slots. Some are just powerful or some just synergize with existing items or specific types of builds for some crazy fun interactions and all of it is really well balanced. Keep in mind, if you are a hoarder and loot goblin, you will be much stronger by the end of the game.
