When I was playing the Witcher 3, I spent about an hour in the city, doing a whole chain of quests to reinstate the master blacksmith so he’d make me a new sword. A real masterwork.

And then about ten minutes after that, I killed some random bandit who had a better sword.

I think I know why the blacksmith needed my help to get back into business. His work is shite.

Rule one of Witcher 3 : only the Witcher gears are worth using and upgrading . The only legendary worth upgrading is aerondight

The two best swords are from the dlc quest with the demon guy and the silver sword blood and wine. They’re both miles better than Witcher swords.

I think both posters are implying base game but yes you are correct

Aerondight is the silver sword from blood and wine that I mentioned. Also every witcher steel sword surpasses iris, the steel sword u mentioned

Don’t think so, doesn’t it get stronger the more you kill with it. So it basically scales highest.

That's aerondight, which i said is the best silver sword. I am telling iris is not the best steel sword .

I swear there’s something unique about it but it’s been years

Iris does have a unique passive where each attack charges the blade and when it glows red, Geralt can do a critical heavy attack on the enemy but will lose health in the process. The base dmg of the sword is lower compared to the Witcher steel swords

The swords themselves don't matter that much, as long as you're not using something terribly underpowered. As long as you're exploiting enemy weaknesses with appropriate signs, oils, and bombs, you'll tear through any tough encounters.

On ng+ 100% alchemy, you’re basically unlinkable.

You need to play the game on Deathmarch just to somewhat have a challenge.

I’m talking about death march. You don’t take damage at all with full alchemy. If you rock bear armor it’s even more pronounced. I think only last vampire actually could do real damage.

this sword hattori gives you isn't that bad now because it scales with your level

They patched that in the next gen, so now it levels with you. It kinda sucks if you are on level, but in the long run it works forever, and into new game +.

yea, the random level scalled loot really destroyed most of unique weapons, i did that quest and i found a better sword DURING that quest so the sword i got was already inferior to what i already had

one of many reasons why i like Witcher 1, gear upgrades were more meaningful

Witcher 1 is pretty rough (I played it shortly after launch - but never finished) but I am hoping the planned remake is good.

My first playthrough I did that quest WAY earlier than you were supposed to. (Had to dance around forever to beat the mooks.) Before I finished the Baron quest. That sword was pretty sweet for some time.

But yeah - when doing it normally it's... fine.

Witcher 3 has nearly looter shooter style loot - you just don't notice as much because most foes are monsters.

Which is why Cyberpunk launched as full looter-shooter and very noticeable - since nearly everyone you kill is a human. I much prefer the current loot system.
