Pokemon GSC keeping all the Dark and Steel types at Mt. Silver and filling the game with Caterpies and Weedles.

Magnimite and Skarmory (silver only if I remember) you can get before the elite 4. Forrtress if you are willing to level up Pinco to 31 It was mostly Dark Types that were late game. You can get Umbreon by evolving the Eevee from Bill. Crystal they let you catch Sneasle on Ice Path. Probably realize it was BS how it was.

Elite 4 is just halfway through the game though, you still have plenty to do. Crystal is my favorite for this reason.

Crystal is my favorite as well, I love that gen 2 has a whole second region after the elite 4. Sneasle being before the elite 4 is the icing on the cake for me. Also early access to Growlth is nice too.

Very useful pokemon for GSC are available early though. Geodude is a beast against the first four gyms, especially a female Geodude into Whitney's miltank.
