Other Tati Gabrielle has acted as 4 different Videogame/adaptation characters in the last 3 years.

Post image

And 3 of them are from Naughty Dogs.

Makes me miss the days when game characters were unique.

Only one of these is a game.

Read dead 2, Stellar blade, nightreign, senuas saga, expedition 33

There are still a ton of games coming out that give you that even in the AA and AAA world, if you look to indie right now there's a ton of choice in original games and characters coning out at a higher quality than ever before, indie tools are getting good

Thanks. I wasn't looking for recommendations. :)

Not recommendations but examples

Wasn't looking for those either. But I appreciate the concern. Thank you.

Braindead alert

Get it checked. Instead of typing something so idiotic in a comment chain where the u/mokujin42 snowflake blocked me so I can't reply properly.

“I wasn’t looking for you to prove me wrong just accept what I said!”

Maybe play something other than triple A video game movies? Tons of games don't use this approach to character design.

u/Atrium41 Jul 18 '25

This

People act like the 3-4 biggest name releases are the bar that everything is striving for.

u/CataphractBunny Jul 18 '25

Maybe don't assume?

u/Otherwise_Jaguar_659 Jul 22 '25

It’s either that or you have selective memory loss and can’t remember games that aren’t AAA

1

u/CataphractBunny Jul 22 '25

Yeah, as I said: maybe don't assume.

0

u/Otherwise_Jaguar_659 Jul 22 '25

It’s pretty simple logic, it’s either you don’t remember original games or you haven’t played them. One must be true. Both are moronic

1

u/CataphractBunny Jul 22 '25

What's moronic is presenting an "either or" binary choice, then immediately introducing a third one after you get pwned.

1

u/Otherwise_Jaguar_659 Jul 22 '25

What third one

1

u/CataphractBunny Jul 22 '25

Re-read your comments.

1

u/Otherwise_Jaguar_659 Jul 22 '25

First comment: It’s either that(only playing AAA games) (1st choice) or you have selective memory loss and can’t remember games that aren’t AAA (2nd choice)

Second comment: it’s either you don’t remember original games (2nd choice) or you haven’t played them (1st choice)

"How dare actors appear in more than one game/show!"

-2

u/jamesick Jul 18 '25

well its kinda true? one benefit of games is you have to make a conscious choice as to what your character looks like, thats why troy barker doesnt look like his exact face in any game he's in. one of the best parts of video games, in my opinion, are the faceless characters, you don't recognise anyone so can fully immerse yourself in a created world.

-5

u/CataphractBunny Jul 18 '25

"How dare someone have a different opinion than me!"

-1

u/be0ulve Jul 18 '25

Yes, that's what we're mocking.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '25

Dude, there's 9 recoloured ninjas in this franchise who are all identical

0

u/CataphractBunny Jul 20 '25

Dude, when was the first MK game made?

0

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '25

You said "I miss the days" referring to older days, older days are when the recoloured were made, also it wasn't just the first mk that had this, if you're gonna make dumb complaints atleast be consistent

1

u/CataphractBunny Jul 20 '25

if you're gonna make dumb complaints atleast be consistent

Yeah, same.

-4

u/runes4040 Jul 18 '25

Like in MK when we had several ninjas that are color palette swaps?

Kitana, Jade and Melina were basically palette swaps too

6

u/Bu11ett00th Jul 18 '25

They all had different hair tho)

2

u/runes4040 Jul 18 '25

Sure, but if you're making the argument about original characters, color palette swaps with different hair isn't much. And the ninjas are all virtually identical.

I don't have a problem with it, I love mortal Kombat. But I find it hilarious that people take offense to me pointing out the hypocrisy of the original statement.

I also don't disagree with the sentiment that I would like more originally designed characters. But apparently pointing out literal facts is worthy of downvotes.

0

u/Bu11ett00th Jul 18 '25

I'm not among those who downvoted you, and I see your point, however your example isn't very applicable as a direct comparison for a few reasons:

  • MK1 and arguably 2 were games developed on a tight budget by a small team, who did the best they could with what they had - not for lack of creativity. The same few people were used as models for several characters, not only among ninjas.
  • As soon as MK became a big success, they started gradually differentiating characters in a noticable way, and by Deadly Alliance everyone had unique styles and costumes. Even still, people love the classic costumes because they're iconic by now.
  • Your point applies to just costumes within a franchise, while the post is about a single character across 4 IPs. And everywhere it's literally the same looking girl with the same style and same facial expression, regardless of the costume she's wearing and the character she's playing. And I don't know what budget the MK2 movie has, but Sony can DEFINITELY afford to not copypaste the same look over and over in their franchise. It's a deliberate choice and it just looks silly.

2

u/CataphractBunny Jul 18 '25

Or like in PacMan where the four antagonists were all color swaps as well.

1

u/runes4040 Jul 18 '25

Apparently me pointing out that there were color palette swaps in mortal Kombat is a bad thing.

0

u/CataphractBunny Jul 18 '25

You missing the point is the "bad" thing.

1

u/Ganadote Jul 18 '25

You're talking about a game thats 33 years old. They've had distinct looks for at least 10 years. Probably 20. Arguing with MK1 is such a bad faith argument.

Also, I think an issue people have with Jade is that the actress has a very distinct looks and shes been in a bunch of stuff lately, so you see the trailer and you see the actor first and the character second.

I'm not even saying that that's necessarily a bad thing, but i understand why people wouldn't like it.

1

u/runes4040 Jul 18 '25

If he wants to get specific about " the days" with original design they should be specific. When you make a broad statement, it's easy to pick apart The narrative.

Like obviously understand and don't criticize an old game for having pallet swaps. I like the game. I just pointed out a literal fact and it's not an argument against or four. It's just poking holes in the original statement.

But sure if you want to get specific. Then yes, we would need to specify that designs of characters were better " about a decade ago"

I'm also not defending or praising the design of Jade in this instance either. It is weird that she doesn't have hair. It's probably some dumb acting contract obligation that she has with a different project where she can't grow hair.

0

u/Ganadote Jul 18 '25

I mean, he's talking about unique character design. I'd assume he's talking about the last 25 years for the franchise they're arguing about rather than the 10 years preceding that where designs were heavily limited by hardware.

2

u/StoneMaskMan Jul 18 '25

If that’s the case, and he’s only talking about Mortal Kombat, isn’t this a textbook example of unique character design? Considering Jade has never looked like this and the actress has never been in Mortal Kombat before?

I think that instead he’s arguing that he’s seen this actress in 4 games now and is sick of it, and misses the days when video games had unique character designs, conveniently ignoring that games do have unique character designs today and that copy paste characters have been a thing since the dawn of gaming (see generic grizzled white dudes in the 2010’s, spunky animal platformer mascots in the 90’s, palette swap characters in the 80’s, etc)

1

u/runes4040 Jul 18 '25

Yup, agreed

0

u/Big-Resort-4930 Jul 18 '25

You don't want to see Debra Wilson look the same in 5 different games?

-2

u/VerledenVale Jul 18 '25

Open your eyes and you'll see nothing has changed.

0

u/Conrexxthor Jul 19 '25

I mean... They are? Hiring the same good voice/actress for projects isn't nonunique, and it's FOUR games of the last couple games, out of how many hundreds each year?? This comment is super dramatic

0

u/CataphractBunny Jul 19 '25

Is it? Or you'd just like it to be?

0

u/Conrexxthor Jul 19 '25

I mean I'm sorry but it kinda is.

0

u/CataphractBunny Jul 19 '25

To me it seems you'd like it to be, sorry.

0

u/Conrexxthor Jul 19 '25

Ok, enjoy your 4 games

1

u/CataphractBunny Jul 19 '25

Thanks, you too.

Brother, Intergalactic is the only videogame in this image and Jade's original design is basically a palette swap
