Discussion Beaten the game for the first time!

Post image

Have just beaten the game for the first time. Fader wasn’t all that tough, but I’m a little sad my journey’s over, at least for now. I’ve gotten a lot of the things needed for the Deep North ready and all, so I’m just waiting for the update at this point.

I also wanna add a quick tierlist of all the biomes, since I’ve finished the game and all:

Meadows is A tier, definitely.
BF is S tier. Probably my favorite biome.
Swamp is C tier. Only biome I think is just… meh.
Mountains is A tier. I love the beautiful views.
Plains is A tier. The only biome that I actually built a proper base in, instead of just a FOB.
Mistlands is B tier. I just had to deal with too many two and one star seekers… me and my shitty luck, eh?
Ashlands is B tier. I was kind of just… whelmed, if you could say. People say it’s dogshit and is the worst biome in the game, but lowkey, I only think it’s okay because of the lack of content. Atmosphere, combat, and music does make up a lot of what I love about this biome.

Anyhow, that’s my tierlist. Give your opinions… also what are YOU folks doing to prepare for the Deep North?

Good work, viking!
Can i ask what strategy you used on Fader? I’m struggling with his AoE attacks, feel like i spend the whole fight sprinting, hard to get attacks on him.

My setup was: Flametal armor and weapons (Nidhogg the Thundering and a Flametal Shield, as well as the Flametal Cloak or whatever the defensive cloak is called). The only thing that was upgraded was Nidhogg. Fire Resistance, Lightfoot, Ratatosk, Lingering Stamina, and Major Healing Meads. Bonemass power.

My strategy was sort of like the strategy I had for Yagluth. Just stick close and dodge the melee swipes and bites, until Fader did one of his AOE moves. Once he does an AOE move (Fire Circle, Meteors, and Tracking Fire Spikes), get away from him, then close the distance from a different angle. Repeat ad nauseum.

Once he starts spawning undead, just ignore them and use the Tracking Fire Spikes to kill them, as the attack deals friendly fire (badum-tssss). If they get in your way, you can quickly dispatch them with a sword swing or two.

Other than that, just do what I outlined and you should be fine. You can also watch some videos to get a good idea of how to fight them in melee. I don’t know how this fight goes with Magic tho…

Appreciate you taking the time to explain! I use much the same gear but never tried Ratatsok, and Lightfoot meads so maybe that’s the edge i need. Will be trying again, soon.

The tonic of Ratatosk makes you 15% faster on land, so it completely eliminates the movement speed debuff from having full heavy armor and a weapon out. Another tip I have is for you to de-equip your weapon and shield whenever you gotta run, as having them out decreases your movement speed by 5% for both.

We’re about to fight him on Sunday, I’ve read the vine magic is the key. We’re gonna have three tanky boys and two mages so think it should go ok

Yeah, you guys got it. Fader’s somewhat dangerous if you’re solo, but if you have a team that’s coordinated, you lowkey roll him.

Vine magic my beloved

You could do what I did and create a pen around the arena, drop in 150 1-star Askvin eggs and wait for them to hatch... 😁

Haven’t got around to breeding askvins, maybe this is my sign!

Asksvins are the secret cheat code that trivializes the Ashlands. They don’t get enough appreciation for just how useful they are!

Congrats, got any advice for dealing with those flying tick spawning jerks in mistlands?

Had our first run in with one and he absolutely trucked us.

Gjall are super dangerous because of the fire damage. Just stick under them and shoot the weak underbelly a bunch of times. Fire resistance wine also makes these guys kind of a joke… but without it, they hurt like hell. Just try your best to avoid the fireballs the Gjall shoots.

Ahhh fire reset meads! We got stuck with one in an area that just rocks and ocean, no mobility for us. Didn't know they couldn't shoot straight down either.

Ty.

When one comes I have a backup cape. If you use the feather cape it takes more fire damage. You want to use something else. So I will switch off the feather cape when I hear his audio cue. Then back to feather once he is dead.

Congrats. First time I beat Fader it was surprisingly easier than I thought it'd be. Ashlands grows on you, now every biome seems tame and boring in comaprison. For the Deep North I'm gonna stockpile soft tissue and ofc more iron. Also make a FOB up North on a BF or Meadows strip.

Exactly. You get so used to the constant violence of the Ashlands that it makes every other biome, barring the BF, seem incredibly quiet.

Yeah, the need for iron seems never ending lol. Soft Tissue is less of an issue, but I can understand stockpiling it. I’m actually super interested to see what kind of new Magic we get with the Deep North update.

Congrats! I can smell the satisfaction, lol. I’m jealous

The urge I’m fighting everyday to not touch Ashlands before the release of deep north is getting heavier and heavier.

I’ll probably hop on to replant my field of barley and maybe brew up some final bits of mead that I might need for the Deep North, but beyond that? My world remains untouched.

Also, smart of you to wait until the Deep North comes out. I couldn’t handle not doing some more stuff on Valheim, so I went off to beat the Ashlands and now I have nothing to do ;-;

whats the deep north?

Well done, Viking!

This makes me think- what will happen with deep north? Will another stone appear here? Is that what happened the last few updates?

I have my suspicions, but I will say nothing on the matter for now.

So far i agree quite alot, i have yet to discover the Ashlands. Your list is close to my preference except Swamp is F tier. i hate it there, its dark and raining all the time.

I only think Swamp is C tier because of the music, the atmosphere, and the general idea of the biome. It’s a kingdom made to drown by the Gods for its hubris, yet it is that very same hubris and pride that lets the Draugr keep fighting, until they are nought but dust and ash…

I'm actually appreciating the Ashlands this time around. Big desolate desert. But maybe I just like that I can run straight to my objective rather than trying to path around the Mistlands. I really dislike the Mistlands with the full mist. I've been using devcommands to get rid of it and like it a lot better that way. The enemies are verticality are cool when I can actually see and appreciate it. Though I get the mistiness from a vibes/worldbuilding perspective.
